      Obviously impossible to give you a real plan as I know zero about you, however, a universally beneficial plan might be to daily practice...
      1. long notes and overtones (see my video on overtones)
      2. scales (see my two scales videos)
      3. technique (see my video on faster fingers)
      4. transcribe a solo you like (see my video series, may be too hard if you're a beginner)
      5. Play some pieces or studies or playalongs
      Consistency is key!!

    Hi Jamie, can you use pentatonic scales over Ska music,

    • @GetYourSaxTogether
      @GetYourSaxTogether  4 роки тому

      paul hayes - yeh, definitely, although quite a lot of original early ska was based on jazz which isn’t so pentatonic based.

      I’d make a list of the songs that go with them - then one can play the scale then the song, then improv and they will reinforce each other.

    Thanks so much! So the A minor blues scale basically adds in a note by flattening the 4th and changes the scale to Hexatonic? Can we do this for any pentatonic scale? On the A minor blues scale when you added Eb you changed E to #E? Last is there any reason you played the A minor blues as 7 notes and C major Blues as 5? Just curious and try to understand...picking up the saxophone myself and on day 2!

    • @GetYourSaxTogether
      @GetYourSaxTogether  3 роки тому

      I'm a little bit confused by some of your questions, and I get the impression you might be a bit confused by some of this as well? You flatten the FIFTH to get the blues scale. A pentatonic scale has five different notes, a blues scale has 6. Good luck with your sax journey! If you want to get a bit of a handle on music theory try this series, which takes you from zero to hero. ua-cam.com/play/PLBRGEAheQrpmo8uhihW5lG1vZnMZiz6El.html

      @@GetYourSaxTogether thanks and apologies. Your reply helped. My only remaining question is that you talk about adding blues notes into the pentatonic scale. The A minor flattens the 5th and now it is a 6 note scale. The C major flattens the 3rd to Eb but the major scale is still a 5 note scale in the video (c d Eb g a). I thought it would be c d Eb e g a for a six note scale as well?

      @@BoredToBoard Right, thanks. So I think what I’m trying to say is that you can make your 5 note major pentatonic “bluesier” by flattening the 3rd. If you then mix and match and use the major 3rd AND the flattened 3rd you’d effectively end up with a six note blues scale. Does that help? Also watch my video on the blues ua-cam.com/video/tduKNPnLR4M/v-deo.html Hope that helps??

    Is the lick at the end of Kenny G's "Alone" ( Low D G A B, High D B A G ) a pentatonic scale? I was untold that the phrase was based off of the pentatonic scale. I know the notes but an having trouble mastering the way it is played.
