I got one as a birthday gift last week. It is labeled M4 Carbine, has the correct FN logo, and is made in SC. It also has the MFG code on the lower and the barrel. The barrel is a heavy profile barrel. They made some improvements, for sure.
Is the upper F stamped?
@@jom6617 the front sight post has a F stamp. The bcg has no FN stamp on it.
@@Dan-di9jd appreciate the reply
I got mine a couple months ago and was pleasantly surprised to see "m4 carbine" and the socom profile barrel. Also have the colt socom.
An FN collectors series FAL would be pretty badass
Oh my god that’s a great idea. I’d sell a kidney to obtain one of those.
Probably gonna be $4K!!!!!!!
FN could do it if they still had the tooling. Since they don't this is the best we will get.
@@StryderKthat would be lower than I’m willing to spend on it if they came out with one
Mine says "m4 carbine" instead on "fn15 carbine"
FN is good and bad, they have great products mostly but! Their service suuuuucks! And parts availability is near zero. Take a lesson from Glock FN u’ll make more money
The receiver “FN” symbols on our issued M4’s mostly had the styled “FN” and very few of the football plain looking “FN.”
I seem to recall having an M16A3 that had the FN (styled, not football). I always thought I was misremembering that. Glad to know I was right, lol.
Great review I love my FN military collector M4!
It all sounded great until I discovered FN uses 4140 steel for the barrel of the "military collectors edition" instead of 4150 cmv. They do a good job of hiding this because apparently it's only mentioned in the manual. Why FN? Why? What a shame.
@@j.james-88Is it really much of a difference though? Is it enough to not want to own this M16?
@@yogi902 i think so, especially when they're charging the same amount as a colt socom. If i wanted a 4140 barrel, i could've bought a psa for almost a 1/3 the price. Youre basically paying 17-1800$ for a entry model with a kac rail. If theyre advertizing a "milspec" edition rifle, then it should have a mil-11595-b barrel. That and a 4 position stock, not 6.
I actually snagged the M16 collector one about 3 months after getting my M4 collector one. I just picked it up from the store and now looking it over. It's pretty close to what I remember in service. I remember the buffer was clear instead of black and this one came clear like I remember. The only thing I'm upgrading is getting a carry handle sight and I just put in a Geiselle trigger.
I got my M-16A4 last Christmas. The store also had the M-4 but I had to let that go…Christmas season…..I already overcharged my credit card as it was so yeah, had to let the M-4 go. The only thing I put on it was the ACOG on my MK12. I got a Vortex Eagle scope for it so transferred the COG to the M-16. Great shooter! Thinking of a Fostech Echo Trigger for it…It needs something more automatic.
Just a quick correction. The ones that he is reviewing that's rollmarked FN15 carbine (M4A1) and FN15 rifle (M16A4) that are produced in Fredericksburg, Virginia are the commercial-spec pre-production models. The later ones are rollmarked M4 Carbine (M4A1) and M16 Rifle (M16A4) and are produced in Columbia, South Carolina where all the mil-spec firearms by FN for the military are produced.
@@LL-fi4rrI watched a video on FN Herstal's manufacturing facility in Columbia, South Carolina. The FN15 Military Collector M4 & M16 are the same exact M4A1's and M16A4's the military uses, the only difference is that they are only semi-auto and the M4's 14.5 barrel is pinned and welded, and of course the roll markings. Other than that you have the real deal and it's worth every penny.
@@LL-fi4rr Do it! You'll love it.🇺🇸
They also corrected the "Fire" label near the switch and changed it to Semi.
Looks better now
@@ej1025 I left that part out, but yeah they did.
@@thomasowczarek2922 I would like to check the internal markings again, at some point.
Years later and I still need this rifle...the m4
This rifle is available on rifle gear website. It's only 1 left.
I know alot of Army grunts still carrying A4's
The Army is still using the M4. The USMC replaced theirs with the H&K M27.

IM A FN FANBOY . MY FN MILITARY COLLECTOR M4 HAS AN ACOG ON IT THE TWO WERE BUILT FOR EACH OTHER 🇺🇸
COLT HAS LOST THERE WAY.
Is your bcg mark with MP? And how has you rifle has held up so far.
My fn m4 made in Columbia, sc
Manual says 4140, but I've " read" that FN said that was a miss print, and that the barrels are 4150 cmv ??
Should be 4150
Why was colt allowed to sell their military rifles to civilians but FN isn’t?
Colt owned the TDP FN used to make government guns only.
@@SmallArmsSolutions Thank you.
Glad, you're back. I have a question for anyone reading this, should my next AR be an AR15A4 or FN military collectors M16? I want a rifle length AR has system.
HachiZenki yes but I wanted a milspec rifle, and AR15A4 and FN military collector series are the ones I was split between.
Ik about Brownells and their retro rifles, I was wanting an M16A4 clone. I could build one, but since Colt and FN produced em for the military, my question was which one was better.
I would buy the AR15A4. Far closer to the real deal
A. C. - i say FN. both mine are amazing. 100% reliable and the most accurate rifles ive ever handled.
after 6000 rds my M4 still looks new.
Don’t forget Saber defense. They have demilled USGI kits sold by a third party. I built my complete FN off a FN USGI upper. Found all FN parts less the lower an FCG. I put a NM upper carry handle on mine. Ran 77 gr SMKs. It shoots well enough to shoot service rifle matches.
I think the FN M16 is gorgeous I’ve been looking for a 14.5 or 13.9 BCM or ADM but I think I want a 20 inch M16 first!🧠🤯🔫
I have the M-16A4. Very nice rifle third now behind my Daniel Defense MK12 and DDM4V9. Will get the M-4 down the line.
What is meant by C A on upper receiver of m16 a4 please comment
Thoughts on the FN 15 patrol rifle
Didn't this guy have more subscribers than now? He has so much info. Great channel.
I own the M4 and they use 4140 steel for the barrel. It’s in the manual that the rifle comes with.
That fixed stock makes my compass 🧭 point north!
mines like north west
How’s the FN15 M4 compared to the Colt 6920 SOCOM?
I'd like to hear that as well. It seems like both of them have elements of the M4A1, but neither have the complete list. Like, the 6920 SOCOM has the SOCOM profile barrel, but not the ambi controls. And this has the ambi safety, but not the heavier barrel.
Between the two, I think I'd rather the Colt since it's $200 cheaper and I care more about the barrel.
@@USN1985dos I'm pretty sure the FN M4 military collector has the heavy barrel.
I remember watching an interview with a Colt representative. He claims the Socom Colt rifle sold to the public is the exact upper sold to the US army. That its pulled off the assembly line and sent to have the flash hider welded on with an extended A2.
The lower is obviously standard le6920 with different markings. Due to the NFA. (Not select fire).
Basically you get the real deal with Colt. Where as FNs is built by the commercial market. That I know from speaking directly to an employee. Its not milspec.
DaveLF the Colt SOCOM has the Ambi safety, and the side sling mount on the front sight. I chose the Colt, I got the FN M16A4 though because Colt didn’t offer it.
TacRatt60 how did you like the FN M16A4??
I’ve seen surplus receivers (both raised and engraved) with the cage code “3S679” Some have a C next to the cage code. Also with just an “F”…. what about barrels with cage codes on them? I’ve always had Colts when I was in (the 80’s), but would like to piece together a nice FN upper.
Is this still the current contract and issue rifle?
No, current have SOCOM heavy barrels and some ambi features
You would think after working for and dealing with colt. You wouldn’t want a single product they have made
No, when they get it right, you absolutely want their products. In the case of military rifle clones, if you get the right ones, they are the closest one can get to the actual GI issue. They make military grade weapons. They make 1995-era weapons but still military grade. Colt has the finest record of any weapons manufacturing company in the world to produce the numbers they have with the degree of quality. They just never update and improve their technology. They do no more and no less than exactly what they are asked for by the government. Other manufacturers, far superseding in updates in modularity, modern materials and design improvements.
@@SmallArmsSolutions military grade just means built by the cheapest bidder. And with the worst options cause change cant be made.
No, that’s not what it means at all. It sets the minimum standards which exceeds much of what’s acceptable in the industry. It is governed by a technical data package.
@@SmallArmsSolutions in that case I got a bridge to sell ya. Fully designed, built n inspected by the gooberment.

I was going to buy the FN M4 military collector series I'm glad I waited because Colt has a M4 A1 Socom with the US property markings on the lower receiver just bought one today Colt finally put a true m4a1 with the right markings real 14 1/2 inch Socom Barrel

Same BCG and barrel I have on my FN15? For less then half the price

The Colt has a legit milspec upper. FNs is built from their commercial market.
FN makes the M4/M16 for the military now. the government took the contract away from Colt and gave it to FN a few years ago. these FN rifles are milspec. The reason Colt lost the contract is because they tried to sue the government for a breach of contract so the government said Fuck YOU to Colt and awarded it to FN who wasn't even asking for it at the time.
DanOfTheWild the Colt SOCOM has a full auto bolt carrier
Charles Lindberg wow
@@nickhowatson4745 I hate to break it, but Stephen is mostly right...
FN can't sell a "milspec" rifle on the open market, Colt can....FN's civy guns are a commercial put together. Look at the FN 20" barrel. It's not machined to proper contour and is 1/2 inch longer than the GI barrels they make.
@DanOfTheWild That was in 1992.....
another great review. thanks!
Not cold hammer forged for around $1800 IIRC? Ripoff IMO.
jdessell well when you can build a military DoD contact marked lower with a Knights rail system with a Matech sight. Properly staked and marked and heat treated parts. Type 3 class 3 anodized upper and lower. A FN buttoned barrel, which is held to a higher QC than other manufacturers. Not to mention FN builds thier own bolt, bolt carrier, buffer tubes, lowers, barrels and magazines (the parts that actually matter) and are not an assembler of other brands mixed matched parts for less than $1700-1800. Let me know. Yes it's expensive, but this isn't a Spikes or a BCM. It's an FN. You do get what you pay for.
jdessell besides you can find the FN Tactical II Carbine with a cold hammer forged barrel and the same in house built parts, not assembled mixed matched parts, and a Mega Arms/Zev handguard and Scar flash hider for around $1300 sometimes less. That will beat Daniel Defense quality at $200 to $400 less.
jdessell - ill put my 2 FNs up against anything out there at any price. and spank them!
both my modded M4 and my 18" match grade sporter are 100% reliable and both shoot sub 3/8" 5-rd 100 yd groups.
and many perfect, single bullet hole, .000" 3-rd and sub 1/8" 5-rd 25 yd groups.
and after 6000 rds and 3000 rds respectively, both still look like new.
the bolts show no wear at all.
only the cam pin, corners of the gas key on the BCG and of course the charging handles show any wear and its just minor finish wear.
ill never hesitate to buy FN. even if they are a bit more expensive.
It is button broached it is better look it up all long range barrels are. They mad this gun to shoot accurately at distance.
jdessell a little over priced but you gotta pay to play.
I ordered a colt socom 14.5 barrel and all the markings are correct, came sealed in the blue bag but the front sight isnt F marked. Im going to cut it down for a rail anyways but just curious if you knew why? Thanks man, good vid
Matt Soares sounds like Colt is ignoring their bill of materials and throwing guns together with whatever parts they have
colt recently dropped the f mark but it is still same front end.
I was in 2003 to 2008, did I hear that correctly? They got rid of burst and now they are full auto? That's badass if its true
Brad Huizinga true sir
Thank you for the video.
Overpriced by about 800 dollars.
I don't think those rifles are true "milspec" as much as Colt...WHat's the deal with the barrel? I see it's not machined to standard contour behind the flash hider? Is it the same rifle that FN put out a few years ago with the big painted FN on the wrong side of the lower?? Those had a barrel that was 1/2 inch too long and not profiled properly......
I'm speculating FN can't sell a "milspec" rifle on the open market, while Colt can....
So what is the quality of the parts on this gun? I had heard that due to the fact that FN cannot use their tdb on Commercial gun, this gun is inferior in quality to what they would sell to the military or police.
Pardon me if this is a dumb question.
Nevermind. Watched the video again and got my answer.
So does that mean that, since FN can't use the TDB in their comercial rifles, that the parts in the civilian FN rifle are of lower quality?
What would you rate the quality (1-10) of the parts on this gun?
The words “lower quality” don’t apply to FN, regardless of TDP. You’re always getting a well-made firearm.
@@riskyflash6812 So how many shots would you get out of an FN rifle like this before you started having parts break or significantly wear out you think?
10,000, 15,000, 20,000?
@@FinalLugiaGuardian I’d expect at least 10k through the barrels in these guns, but it’s not really anything you need to worry about.
It is. The barrel is 4140 and not 4150cvm smh
my range friend acquired a used fn m16 collector from a gun on armslist, he let me shoot it at the range, was a nice rifle, my only real complaint was the stock trigger, it needs a geissele sd-e trigger and this would be perfect. 👍👍👍

Why is the technical data package not public domain?
Because it is Colts intellectual property.
@@SmallArmsSolutions well if they go out of business be sure and get a copy of it before it gets lost forever. Or is it locked in a safe like CocaCola and KFC recipes?

The barrels on these is 4140 steel not 4150 mil spec. So they are inferior the mil issued rifles.

@@11binfantryfollowmeus.army95 they aren't 4150. they're 4140.
@@11binfantryfollowmeus.army95 Everywhere I've looked says that the FN barrels are 4140. Apparently even the users manual for the gun says 4140. I hope that me and Nick are wrong, but everything points to 4140 that I've seen for this version. Feel free to set the record straight with definitive proof, but it sure seems like FN is pulling some HK MR556 bs with this collectors edition. I won't buy a significantly more expensive alternative to the colt AR-15A4 that's been downgraded for cost cutting measures. That's insulting.
Great review . Would I benefit any reliability swapping out fn bcg to lmt bcg in my fn military collector M4 carbine length gas ?
No, that’s a ridiculous idea. If you want to build your own AR, then do it. These are built the way they are for a reason.
Which one for the apocalypse? FN M4? Or Colt M4a1? Only one
Colt
Ok. Cool. What would be your reasoning other than it being the original?
Because if you get lucky, you may still get some real tdp produced military components on the colt that are marked correctly
Yea I looked high and low and it got to the point to where if I baught a colt I didnt really know what I'd be getting. So I put a FN on layaway.
Unfortunately these days, you would have to inspect the Colt rifle to see what you were getting beforehand
