I am hearing NOTHING but great reviews all over the net on these. Talkbass and other forums love them. I have heard that the 2x10 combo absolutely slays on the 1x15 cabinet.
I just recently bought one of these combos, and I want an extension cab for it. However, everything I consult seems to be split 50/50 on the 1x15" or 2x10" extensions. They say an extra 115 will change the character of the total output by mixing speaker sizes, while the 210+210 will simply sound "more" because of the similar characters of the cabinets. So, check out the 2x10" extension as well as the 1x15"!
I had one. Fantastic. I’ll be honest, I used the Bright and Contour setting for my EQA. Unfortunately, local music stores in Edinburgh couldn’t get a 1x 15” cabinet.
I've been breaking my head for months thinking about what amp I should buy. Although I was almost decided by this Fender Rumble 500, your demo has made me see that I NEED this amp. (Sorry about my english, I'm from Spain.)
Thanks for the review, I just bought one and wow this kicks major butt..what I like is the versatility from slap to metal and you can adjust to any room with the contour. The direct out is great, and the smoothness of this cab is amazing. You can literally get any tone you want. Fender knocked it out of the park with this one. Easy carry and set up...a bass and a cord..go! Thanks again.
Thanks for a great demo. I most definitely remember the impressive combination of an 8x10 Ampeg box and a set of stairs. This is a breath of fresh air.
I am 58 years old and just got back into playing after to long of a lay off, almost 30 years and kept all my old gear. Was never a Fender amp guy was always an Ampeg user. Love there basses though, have a 77 jazz and 81 P, with the Ampeg Vb 2x15 cab, I always knew I would come back one day. Got a used Rumble 200 2 months ago for a good deal and started getting my chops back now I am off and running like the sound of the amp but of course it was no Ampeg. Now I am ready to start jamming with some other musicians and I don't want to lug around that big Ampeg rig, it still sounds killer but I am to old for it. So I just found a used 2x10 Peavy Headliner for cheap, almost brand new, could not find a used 2x10 Rumble extension cab and now I get the whole 200 watts, the mix of the 15' speaker from the combo and the 2x10 extension cab it sounds great, it doesn't match and I wish I could put the 2x10 on top but it won't jive because of the controls being on top, that is the only thing I don't like is controls on top, never did, I like to be able to turn around and see my settings but can I do, sound is more important. If I want to impress anyone it will be from my playing or I could brake out the Ampeg rig. But the setup I have now it's so light I rather not have matching cabs
Great review. I use one of these in a live band all the time and it never fails to get me out of trouble. I hate using anything else now! And it is so unbelievably light! Great for lugging round. Worth every penny!
@@nicksonthevet never had a need to. It has an xlr out to the desk and sounds great that way. Most gigs I play pubs/clubs so it's barely above 50% on the volume and is real loud....or it's into the desk for bigger places
Wow bro!!! Amazing playing I really dig your grooves and overall talent :) This has to be the best review I have seen done for an amp. You were very detailed, specific and made me appreciate the rumble family I have at home :). In fact, thanks to your review of tone shaping, I found some new sounds I didn't know I could make with the rumble lol. Thanks for the tutorial!!

Love the bright/contour together too. Like the low mid down. and high mid up with a touch of treble up too. Overdrive is killer too. Can get feedback and sustain - fun
I just ordered one. I test drove one. Absolutely sold me on tone, power and light weight. The only thing I personally would like is better looking knobs. Shiny Chrome. The plastic yellow knobs looks cheesy. Only my opinion but overall awesome!!!
Change the knobs out- custom look black, gold, etc. Easy to do. Buy a used one from GC and get a bargain. I just scored a SR1300 bass for $799 which was a total score. They can go for $1,200 or more. You can def. not tell it is not brand new. 45 day return as well.
Ive had this amp for about a year and it is AWESOME!!!! Get unbeatable tones for just about any type of bass playing. Really controllable 4 band EQ and the Overdrive channel is better than any Overdrive pedal Ive ever tried. Easy to use, great to listen to....
This is an awesome demo. I have had a jam on a rumble 500 in store before have to say, it blew me away. I had the bass turned down halfway and it was pumping
What a great review Matt. I finally got this baby and hooked her up with my old 15 inch cab. Great stuff mate and helped me out with some different tones as I have a 2015 deluxe P bass and they work perfectly together. Thanks again Matt, well done. 👍
Great review. I bought the 500w 2/10 last month after lugging a GK 700 combo for the last decade and a half. Been too busy to play with it much it's got it's maiden voyage next week. This video helped. Thanks.
Which one do you like most? Was thinking of getting either the 200w or 500w but can't try 'em out where I live. Which is suitable for medium size gigs with a drummer and 2 guitarist? I play 4 string Fender jazz and like a fat gritty open sound and not boomy.
I wondered how you like the amp since you have had it for a while as I am about to take the plunge it’s between the Hartkey and the fender rumble both the 500 watt 2 or 4 10” speakers
@@junbu8958 So I had the amp for a couple years. I found it to be very, very clean & was able to take pedals extremely well. The volume was good, the high wattage left alot of headroom. The EQ was quite responsive. I ended up selling to get my hands on a Trace Elliott Valve amp, as I tend to play slightly more high gain & not use pedals.
I just bought one yesterday and had practice with my band, they was wow amazing it sound, I needed something lightweight but with some kick, I’m a GK user my smallest was 4x10, I’m so tired of lugging that thing up the stairs every weekend, this Fender Rumble is light I will put it to test at my first gig this weekend
I've watched a lot of reviews of this amp, I think you're the first person to turn the bass all the way up! Nice to hear it's got some thump, definitely one to consider.
It’s got lots of thump, I have only a 25 watt version of this amp and compared to my buddy’s who has a 50 watt orange crush, at the same volume the bass on the rumble is noticeably louder, the bass is even more louder and profound on the angled back models of the Fender Rumble series
Great video, and great playing! :) That amp sounds really good, and the drive knob is actually functional. IMO Fender usually doesn't make the best "Drive" circuitry in its amps, but it sounds genuinely good here.
Got to use one and let me say ...Bad Ass!!..any Bass will sound great on this so trust the Fender!!..they’re not f#%*kin’ around!!..got it right and any Bassist worth his/her salt should agree if tried out!!...(the bottom “boom” is astonishingly killer)..🎶🎸👍🏾Go Fender!!..✨🎶🎉🎈👏🏽👏🏻👏🏾it’s a par~tay!!...🤘🏾
I bought one and it has such a nice, neutral preamp tone. I picked up the 2x10 extension cab and it sounds phenomenal. The 500 alone works well as an at home rehearal amp (super loud head phone jack and aux in), but fhe pair is something else.
Stottmann, thanks for a very helpful review. Very thorough, I wasn't sure about the 2x10 combo or head+15 modular. I now know. You're playing kicks butt!!! I can name all those basslines. Cool!!!
Great video, Matt. I think I may save up for the 40 watt version of this amp, because I've heard nothing but great things about the Fender Rumble series. I really like your channel by the way, you're quite a talented musician

Even the 15 is a great amp (for its wattage/its loud but not for performin), and thats the one they give to beginners in that Squier starter pack with the Pbass.
I put a Celestron 10" (BL 10 -200X) into my Rumble 40 and WOW. Much better tone, bass, mids, etc. Keep it on the carpet because it now loves to dance on wood floors. HA! Just sold it to get the 500 for my new Power Blues 'Trio.

I have a rumble 100 that’s sounds awesome and just perfect for out small room jam sessions. If I ever need a larger amp for larger areas, this is the one I’ll be getting
@@omarsharif927 it should be. Depends how loud your band is. If it’s not loud enough you can do a line out from the amp to a PA system and you’ll be good
Thanks. One of the best sounding amps. I like the Rumble 40- ideal for mostly at home practice. My Katana 100 guitar amp, even my THR10 seem to work very well too (for low volume practice.) I am mostly a guitar player. If I were to strep up from the 40, I would grab a 2x10 Mark Bass.
I understand that this amp sends 350 watts to the 2 10" speakers, and the output jack for an additional cabinet gets 150 watts. Thats an appealing feature for expansion if desired.
thanks for the great demo however, nobody demonstrates the low end plus the volume handling on the high setting...I'd love to hear how it handles way on the top and without loose clarity. so, how about that guys? show us the true low bass sound...Avi
Hiya mate I just got one of these. I like it except the gain won't turn off. On zero some sound comes through. I can live with it if doesn't get worse. Is yours the same?
Loving this amp! Thinking about getting one but would want to be able to plug my 15" cab in for extra bottom end if needed. It's 500 w though. So probably can't do it?
Not a problem mate. I've got an old 1x15 cab and the speaker must be at least 30 years old and probably could do with an upgrade. I'll be going for the Rumble 1x 15 cab. It's amazing when the two are rockin' '
Hey I’m thinking to buy this amp, was it worth it? Did it have a good life time? If u answer I would be more than grateful to you, I need an amp to play on a medium size bar on my city
I have been reading up on these combos and there is some SOB that hooked this this combo up to a V3 410 Rumble cab. said it sounded awesome but you will need to see if your Hydrives speakers match with the Ohms and watts... or something.. dig through this forum. it has a lot of info on the RUMBLE series. .. Great demo man! I've been thinking about getting a bass amp for home recording stuff, maybe play some gigs down the line...would you recommend this amp or the Rumble 200? Or any other certain amp?
+Greg Pewnit For home recording, the 200 would be more than enough for your needs...maybe even too much! At my last gig, playing along with a guitarist, banjo player and hard-hitting drummer, I didn't have to turn the Rumble 500 up past 3 to be heard...that'll give you an idea of how powerful and loud these amps can be! Honestly, if you're sure you're gonna play gigs at some point, you'll be fine to go with the 200 -- it'll be the perfect medium between home recording and live performance...and I've heard many people raving about how great the 15" speaker sounds in the 200 combo!
+Matt Stottmann Cool man thanks! Its going to be a tough decision because it's only about $150 difference betrween the two...might save up for the 500 just so I won't ever need another amp.
idk what these folks are on about, i actually think that with the contour switches and the voicing of the OD with how the cab feels and sounds that this would do modern distorted bass really nicely.
i use it for melodic death metal and black metal. and the sound is awesome if set right!!!! it got the really nice low ringing at 50-70hz. it sound way too awesome. for me, it's way better then the ampeg!
This is a tough question to answer because "at home" volume for me might be completely different than you! That being said, it is solid state so in general it will sound more consistent at any volume level. Do you gig? If so I'd say you can't beat this amp's value and tone at the price point, but if you don't gig you might be better served getting one of the lower wattage Rumble options for home practice.
You won't be limited by the amp's wattage -- you'll be more limited by the 2x10 speaker config in the combo's cabinet. Assuming your guitarists are using 4x10 cabs with those Marshalls, your best bet would be to add an extension cab to the Rumble (or tell your guitarists to turn their shit down some (good luck with that)! 🤣)
As a Bassplayer also from the 80’s hair and days. I’d be nice if you tell us viewers If your playing with a Pick or Fingers. Makes a big difference on sound with your fingers it sounds us more fuller even we turn up Ohio in trouble and memories it’s a different sound different town but thanks for the videos I am searching/in the market again for something light I had an 800 tube amp Mark Bass that took a shit after three years and $700 I won again I do love the cabinet though
I keep coming back to this amp (current setup is a GK 700rb-II with an 8x10) and everytime I say I don't need it, I come back to this video and want it haha. I especially love the fact that I can get a matching 2x10 extension cab. Just about everything else would have mismatched cabs and I hate it haha. But DAMN does this sound good. How is this treating you? Still very well?
I'll chime in ... I've had the Rumble 200 for about 6 years now and gig it regularly as that's what I do for a living and it hasn't let me down till this day. I've decided to upgrade to the Rumble 500 because I'm curious how it will compare to my 1001 RB II and have multiple cabs for that head (Neo Cabs 2 x 210 and a 410 Neo 4ohm cab.. it's ridiculously loud that rig... I usually only break out that rig for festivals or just out door big events. I've already had micro heads1st gens from gk and it didn't compare to the 1001 RB II punch and slam (volume wise) Maybe. it's a class D thing vs AB amps ... Anyhow even if I can get half the slam from the Rumble 500 that I do from the GK , I will be happy because the portability factor.. and they sound great! If anyone is interested , I can come back and comment on how the Rumble 500 will compare to my GK rig. I have a feeling that I will not be disappointed with the Rumble 500. Cheers!
Good review and even the distortion sound makes sense - never use it myself. I have the 200w version with a 15" speaker (runs at 140w with internal speaker only) which is also giggable in small/medium venues. I hooked it up to a lighweight 8 ohm extension cab with a Celestion BN15 the other day on a big stage and wow - really notice the extra headroom and greater presence.
I have a 2\10 Rumble V3 combo, youll need to add a matching Fender Rumble 2/10 extension cabinet to this amp for it to go from 350 watts to its proclaimed 500 watts. Oddly, there arent any videos with added extension cabinet. If you look to order one, all the online sellers zzounds, musicians friend etc- well..they are all for sale on backorder. For $399.99 you can add 150 watts and double the height of your amp; but for some reason it isn't popular. Fender also makes 4/10 and 1/15 Rumble extension cabinets- but theyre wider than the V3 500 and V3 200 amps, so those Fender Rumble cabinets wouldnt look proportional to the V3 combo amp set on the top as a stack
My Rumble 200 sits perfectly on a lighweight GK 1x15 cab - like they were made for each other. Visually the stamped metal grill doesn't look great but I've got my eye on some Fender grill cloth...
+Pierre Cnockaert I played: The Trammps - "Disco Inferno", Gorillaz - "Feel Good Inc." Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back" Queens of the Stone Age - "No One Knows" Muse - "Hysteria" Most of the other stuff was random noodling....the riff @ 8:39 is a bassline from a song called "Freedom" by The Whiskey Riders, due to be released in May of this year.
The amp is designed to push 500 watts into a 4 ohm speaker load. However, the speakers wired into the combo run at an 8 ohm load, so the amp isn't pushing it's maximum capable wattage unless connected to an extension cab. So yes, it IS a 500 watt amplifier, it just requires a 4 ohm load to push its maximum wattage.
Major design flaw from what I've heard and should be a deal breaker for anyone who doesn't already own a DI pedal, but the XLR out comes AFTER the master volume. This means you can't adjust your "monitor" volume without screwing up the PA mix
I mean, ideally (and assuming your sound guy is competent, I know that's asking a lot sometimes XD) you shouldn't be adjusting amp volume anyway after a sound check, guitarist, bassist or otherwise -- and if you need more stage volume, in many cases the sound person can boost you in the stage monitors without any need for adjustments at the amp.
Yes. The only difference is the 200 has one 15" speaker, and it's 200 watts instead of 500. Either would be all the amp you need for most venues (with P.A. support) and all recording applications.
I am hearing NOTHING but great reviews all over the net on these. Talkbass and other forums love them. I have heard that the 2x10 combo absolutely slays on the 1x15 cabinet.

FANTASTIC DEMO !!!!!
I love my 500, sounds great and doesnt kill my back.
I understand that this amp sends 350 watts to the 2 10" speakers, and the output jack for an additional cabinet gets 150 watts. Thats an appealing feature for expansion if desired.
I play on an Ampeg 2x10 cab with an SVT3pro. I’m gonna buy this when I play the bar scene. Too convenient and it sounds amazing!
thanks for the great demo however, nobody demonstrates the low end plus the volume handling on the high setting...I'd love to hear how it handles way on the top and without loose clarity. so, how about that guys? show us the true low bass sound...Avi
really helpful and thorough demo! thinking about renting one of these until i can afford a big boy stack
Untro get yourself a pwr amp and an Eden wtdi and while you're at it an Eden d212xst would be good idea.
One and done combo!
Bass all the way down really brings out my Rick’s tone.
Hiya mate
I just got one of these. I like it except the gain won't turn off. On zero some sound comes through. I can live with it if doesn't get worse. Is yours the same?
Loving this amp! Thinking about getting one but would want to be able to plug my 15" cab in for extra bottom end if needed. It's 500 w though. So probably can't do it?
yes
@@chrisb48907 sweeeet!
Not a problem mate. I've got an old 1x15 cab and the speaker must be at least 30 years old and probably could do with an upgrade. I'll be going for the Rumble 1x 15 cab. It's amazing when the two are rockin' '
Absolutely. I do it.
@@franktreppiedi2208 done it - its very powerful lol
Just bought one of these bad Larry's used for $300, it's looking like I scored!
I just bought one almost brand new for $450 and I think it was a great deal.
@@franktreppiedi2208 very nice, I'm loving mine so much I sold my other amps. It's so light and compact but it sure packs a punch
Got one yesterday! Love it!!
10:00 and its SOLD!
Juan Jaramillo damn i just got one of these for Christmas yesterday hahahaha haven’t even plugged it in yet but now I’m going to ASAP
MUSE worthy
Hey I’m thinking to buy this amp, was it worth it? Did it have a good life time? If u answer I would be more than grateful to you, I need an amp to play on a medium size bar on my city
this setting with full drive and a bit overdrive sounds exactly like muse :D!
great demo you helped me choose to get this amp :)
Awesome man, you'll love it!!!
Thanks Matt! Sounds great! Great playing!
Nice review! How do you think the Fender Rumble 500 HEAD would sound with 2 Hartke 112 HyDrive cabs?
I have been reading up on these combos and there is some SOB that hooked this this combo up to a V3 410 Rumble cab. said it sounded awesome but you will need to see if your Hydrives speakers match with the Ohms and watts... or something.. dig through this forum. it has a lot of info on the RUMBLE series. ..
URL="www.talkbass.com/threads/fender-rumble-club.1118826/page-93#post-16361494"]Fender Rumble Club[/URL]
The Hydrives are 4-ohm/8-ohm impedance switchable. The Rumble Impedance: 4 ohms, should work.
Could this amp handle hard rock and metal? I play things like Tool, Queens of the stone age, etc
Ampeg or GK for that type of style.
Don't know why this couldn't do any of those bands
idk what these folks are on about, i actually think that with the contour switches and the voicing of the OD with how the cab feels and sounds that this would do modern distorted bass really nicely.
Considering he played a Queens of the Stone Age luck in this video, I’d say so.
i use it for melodic death metal and black metal. and the sound is awesome if set right!!!! it got the really nice low ringing at 50-70hz. it sound way too awesome. for me, it's way better then the ampeg!
Is this too loud for at home? Can I get a decent tone at a lower volume?
This is a tough question to answer because "at home" volume for me might be completely different than you!
That being said, it is solid state so in general it will sound more consistent at any volume level. Do you gig? If so I'd say you can't beat this amp's value and tone at the price point, but if you don't gig you might be better served getting one of the lower wattage Rumble options for home practice.
@@MattTheGuitarGuy ah ok. I was between this and a Rumble Studio 40. I don’t gig. Just home practice.
Love your playing and great tone. Thank you.
What's the volume like in a band rehearsal situation? Im competing with 2 x 100w Marshalls. Will I be heard?
You won't be limited by the amp's wattage -- you'll be more limited by the 2x10 speaker config in the combo's cabinet. Assuming your guitarists are using 4x10 cabs with those Marshalls, your best bet would be to add an extension cab to the Rumble (or tell your guitarists to turn their shit down some (good luck with that)! 🤣)
@@MattTheGuitarGuySo what do you suggest? 800 watt rumble?
I just bought this amp but haven't met up with my drummer yet. What level do you have the volume set at during rehearsals?
As a Bassplayer also from the 80’s hair and days. I’d be nice if you tell us viewers
If your playing with a Pick or Fingers.
He definitely sounds like he’s playing with a pick
I think every single demonstration was done with a pick. Was hoping to learn more about how the amp sounds fingerstyle myself
Wow, built in drive actually sounds good. Sold.
Is this a good performance AMP
Definitely! It's all you'll need in terms of tone and volume!
+Matt Stottmann thanks
Matt Stottmann do u think it can play over a live drummer
Yes, I know it can! I've never had to turn it up past 4 at a show...it's got plenty of volume on tap.
Excellent demo... thanks for sharing.
I have a Stingray-5 which is active only. I noticed only one input and not active/passive switch on the amp. Is this going to be a problem?
Cheers!
I love this amp because you can get a great tone with a minimum of tweaking. Set it and forget it.
Matt..the Brand(name) of bass Cable?
THKU.
huh, the overdrive sounds pretty good on this amp. Usually I hate distorted bass but this amp pulls it off.
Great demo, thank you!
Got this today :) love it :) :) :)
Can’t believe no-one asked what song was played at 10:00 :) what was it?
It's "Hysteria" by Muse! An amazing song and band!!
@@MattTheGuitarGuy thank you Matt! :)
I found this gets muddier than the ampeg RB210. Pokier with some some the settings than RB as well. Still … it sounds great
Is this too much power for home practice, rehearsals, and studio recording?
No i found it to be a little too weak for me. It's not 500 watts. Its 350 watts the speaker itself. You have to buy a separate cabinet to make it 500
Will chicken head knobs fit? Easier to adjust
mm ? does it not sound almost same in sound quality as the15w fender rumble maybe ?
Wow! That setting without the Low Mids!!!
Is V3 a different model of the Fender Rumble 500 that doesn’t say V3?? Or they’re the same? Please help.
They're the same. I have one and extended 15 inch speaker cab for maximum 500 watts. RUMBLE
This or the Ampeg or Orange?
Great review!
I love waffles.....like, a lot
is it good for both passive and active bass guitar?
I have an American 2015 Deluxe and is Passive Active. Works a treat.👍
Great review
Have an Fender Rumble500 amp like it
need the riffs played! Especially at 8:39
+Pierre Cnockaert I played:
The Trammps - "Disco Inferno",
Gorillaz - "Feel Good Inc."
Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back"
Queens of the Stone Age - "No One Knows"
Muse - "Hysteria"
Most of the other stuff was random noodling....the riff @ 8:39 is a bassline from a song called "Freedom" by The Whiskey Riders, due to be released in May of this year.
Thanks a lot! Can't wait to find a bass tab and listen to the full song then!
I play in a spanish band drum , bass , guitar , acordion. Help. Anyone know if this will work as my personal monitor???
at 10:30 you mention that with the external spekaer you go from 350w to 500. Does that mean that the amp per se is not 500w?
The amp is designed to push 500 watts into a 4 ohm speaker load. However, the speakers wired into the combo run at an 8 ohm load, so the amp isn't pushing it's maximum capable wattage unless connected to an extension cab. So yes, it IS a 500 watt amplifier, it just requires a 4 ohm load to push its maximum wattage.
Thanks!
I’ve got a fender 500 bass amp , I’m not quite sure what the features at the back do
DI into a PA - Ext for plugging in another speaker
Great review!! Thx
Best amps at this price point bar none. Nothing comes close. Unbelievable
Thanks for share man
What song are playing when you activate the voicing?
Lex Tipton “I want you back” by Jackson 5
Awesome amp
umm, you are a great Bass Player.
Major design flaw from what I've heard and should be a deal breaker for anyone who doesn't already own a DI pedal, but the XLR out comes AFTER the master volume. This means you can't adjust your "monitor" volume without screwing up the PA mix
I mean, ideally (and assuming your sound guy is competent, I know that's asking a lot sometimes XD) you shouldn't be adjusting amp volume anyway after a sound check, guitarist, bassist or otherwise -- and if you need more stage volume, in many cases the sound person can boost you in the stage monitors without any need for adjustments at the amp.
does rumble 200 have all these features?
Yes. The only difference is the 200 has one 15" speaker, and it's 200 watts instead of 500. Either would be all the amp you need for most venues (with P.A. support) and all recording applications.
yes, i used to have one and it kicked ass! loud asf too
Amazing.
Face melted at 9:10
He jams on the bass solo from No One Knows
