    GOOD JOB BROTHER!!!!! Way better than paying a grand or more for a Holley intake with the MSD box. Getting the tune right be the hardest part. That's cool!!!!

    • @rust_hoarder_garage
      @rust_hoarder_garage  16 днів тому +2

      Great thing is the tune is really simple, it’s mostly just turning off unneeded parameters and other than the timing curve there is nothing to tune. All fuel tuning is with the carb, so a cammed engine would be very easy to tune for a beginner.

      Seems to run fine, but once in the car I will hook up the MAP sensor and adjust the spark table again. Right now it is like a distributor with no vacuum advance, works but can be better. Love the tri fives, I still have a few 55s that will be on the channel.

  • @elinino5275

    Can you demonstrate on video how you set up the tune?

    • @rust_hoarder_garage
      @rust_hoarder_garage  14 днів тому +2

      Current tune is very basic, all timing adders zeroed, timing retards zeroed other than the knock sensors. Timing table set linear 10 to 28 degrees all in by 2800. This works but will be better with a MAP sensor and a factory style timing table, will be a future video.

    The advantage of the MSD is being able to make changes on the laptop without HP Tuners. There was at one time a circuit board that converted ECU's to work that way. I like being able to make changes on the fly

    • @rust_hoarder_garage
      @rust_hoarder_garage  15 днів тому

      What would you change in the tune on the fly? Tune is pretty much nothing but the spark table. All the fuel changes will of course be done at the carb. Tune can be done for free on a laptop with LS Droid and Tunerpro, no need for HP tuners.

    Can you add timing at light load, much like a vacuum advance on a distributor ? MSD has that feature and it makes for a huge difference in economy and response at light loads.

    • @rust_hoarder_garage
      @rust_hoarder_garage  15 днів тому

      sure, you could wire in a map sensor and adjust the timing table for manifold pressure, the option is there. This is new to me, so I am going to try it this way first and then go from there.

    So if you have a 4l60e on there...would not having a TPS sensor affect the shifting? I did your jy 4l60e harness repin and I think I put the TPS 5 volt reference pin in wrong spot. Car will upshift fine but not downshift when I step on gas and obd says low TPS voltage. Gotta wait til a little warmer to check it

    • @rust_hoarder_garage
      @rust_hoarder_garage  15 днів тому

      No tps will affect shifting, and did you fix the white 3-2 downshift solenoid wire on the transmission plug? I covered it in the LS1 to vortec conversion video

    • @oldschooltwist18
      @oldschooltwist18 15 днів тому

      @rust_hoarder_garage yes sir...I did that one. When I first fired car my aftermarket valve cover set up sucked about five ounces oil into intake in less than 10 min. 3 injectors were stuck and lucky it didn't hydraulic. Obd showed like 7 trans malfunctions. I didn't have plug in all the way. Tight fit but after that no more codes. I rolled passenger valve cover up and the drain holes for the pcv part were lined up perfectly with the pushrods. Went to junkyard and got some 02 valve covers, cleaned them up and drilled the extra drainhole . Had eBay 92 mm throttle body that whistled like a vacuum cleaner..TPS didn't work. So I got a 98 Camaro dbc and put it on...had to grind the steam tube almost flat because I have a speed master aluminum intake and it was hitting the water pump. Did an ICT billet type serpentine setup. Belt around the ls1 tensioner kept riding into the bracket. Bought a gm tensioner and fixed problem. Nice cnc was brand on eBay. Actually not bad set up. I did the summit racing 8718 roller cam with ls1 lifters. Sounds pretty healthy. Few more bugs to work out. I like all your info

    • @rust_hoarder_garage
      @rust_hoarder_garage  15 днів тому

      I have the spark table set for a linear curve across the RPM range, no timing add or retard tables are active other than the knock sensors. MAP sensor is disabled.

    • @RetroAnachronist
      @RetroAnachronist 15 днів тому

      @ that’s terribly inefficient, the map sensor is like the vacuum advance on the distributor. Under load it needs to have less spark, granted, you can live off the knock sensors instead, but that seems not good.

    • @rust_hoarder_garage
      @rust_hoarder_garage  15 днів тому +1

      Agreed for the street it is a good idea, but it is not a MUST have, a lot of guys run these engines with carb in race cars, demo derby cars, etc. I am going to try it this way first, that is the great thing about experimentation. Once it is in a vehicle, I will try it as is and then with MAP sensor and adjusted timing table.
