The Montessori Object Permanence Box (Ball Drop Box)
    Best for ages: 9-12 Months
    How to present:
Baby should be facing the box. Present the procedure simply and with as few words as possible.
    1. "This is the ball. This is the box."
    2. Quietly and slowly demonstrate how the ball goes into the hole.
    3. When the ball rolls out, smile, pick it up, and repeat the action.
    4. Invite your child to try for as long as it holds her attention.
    5. When she is finished, put the work away on the shelf.
    This activity:
Cultivates a sense of object permanence
    Fosters focus and concentration
Develops fine motor skills through the whole-hand grasp
    Teaches cause-and-effect
Fun fact: Although object permanence is said to develop between 8-10 months, new research suggests it may actually develop between 3.5-5 months. Permanence could be present at birth but can’t easily be tested for or is masked by performance variables.

This is nice as i am yet to buy one for my girl at 7 months now so a guide to show her the toy fornthe first time when it does arrive is great. Thank you.

This is great, thanks for sharing. We just got this in a monthly subscription. My son will be 8 months next week and hasn’t shown much interest in the box yet but he LOVES the balls!

Yes. Balls always seem to be a hit with kids of all ages. Maybe it's the simple things!

Wow, my son wasn’t able to put the ball in the box until 11.5 months. He was not interested in it at 9.

My baby is almost 9 month and far from dropping things into something but has a good sense of object permanence. I wonder whether this toy would be useful for us. Feels like a simple posting activity would be sufficient. 🤔

Yes. Be creative. It certainly doesn't have to be a ball and box - can be anything similar, like a tissue box and ball, or a plastic coffee container and ball! They don't use it for a long time so don't ever feel bad about DIYing it and spending the money somewhere else. ❤️

I love our object permanence box but my infant literally just tries to eat the ball and the box currently 😂 he does that with all his toys

I love that stage! How old is he? I learned once that object identification has to happen first before the babies can figure out what to do with the objects! Don't feel bad, he'll eventually figure it out! And even if not, it sounds like he has found a highly satisfying thing to do in his free time. :-) Enjoy it!
