Binkov's Battlegrounds First, let me thank you so much for the big effort you are attempting to put every video you issue. Second, I wanted to give you a proposal for your next video. In fact, I have given this proposal also in the comments of your last two videos. Fortunately, a lot of people interacted with this suggestion. The proposal is to make a video about a hypothetical war between Egypt and Turkey. Both countries are competing immeasurably a lot; politically, economically, and militarily. Both are competing over political presence in Mideastern countries, such as Libya, Sudan, the Gulf (the Qatari crisis), as well as Syria. In addition to all this, they are competing militarily in the Mediterranean for discoveries of oil and gas fields. Additionally, despite Turkey’s membership in the NATO; however, Egypt’s military power is rivaling the Turkish one. And if we take Turkey’s NATO-membership into consideration, then we should also take Cyprus and Greece, who are also members in the NATO and the European Union 🇪🇺, that have a lot of alliances with Egypt also into consideration. Thank you a lot for your hard work, again.
Iran has the perfect terrain to fight a defensive peoples guerilla war. You literally could not ask for better defensive terrain. Wadis, swamp, narrow mountain passes, huge engaged population, long standing plans for repelling just such an invasion, thousands upon thousands of small MANPADS, MANPATS and AShM... The main goal of Iran's military doctrine is to defend the regime and make America's war with Iran as expensive as possible. Iran is going to lose in a full confrontation with the US so it's going to pull an even worse VietCong strategy and make the US waste as much resources as possible. Just look at what hezbollah did to Israel and the Houthis to the Saudis. IEDs,ATGM strikes, daily ambushes, MANPADS shooting down helicopters. Iran would slowly bleed out US forces on the ground. We are talking about 300-500 casualties a day. Not to mention the urban warfare nightmare fighting in Isfahan,Tehran,Mashad,Karaj,Shiraz,Qom,Tabriz. It would make the battle of Fallujah look like sunday morning pick up game. China and Russia could get involved. They would send Iran more manpads,ATGMS, claymore mines etc to aid in the guerilla war effort through the Caspian Sea and Pakistan. Anyone who thinks a US invasion of Iran would be a cake walk is delusional. We are talking about 10-20k US casualties in the first two months of fighting. It would end US primacy and prestige.
There would bo no need to pursue them into that location, once the cities fall, the country falls and almost all of the major cities fall well with range of the US Navy and after the Air Force takes control of the skies, can be bombarded in submission. If the Iraqi military falls back into the mountains, no one cares, because they aren't going to be doing any harm there. The US can implement arial surveilance and when anyone or anything moves, they can drop in Apaches to wipe it out. Anyone that retreats there is going to need supplies, and as soon as they come out of the caves and crevices not only will the people be identified, but so will the location where they are hiding. The US would not have to send a single soldier into that terrain to neautralize them.
Ok, but America will still win, and Iran can't even THINK about touching America's mainland. America's primary will end when someone can successfully invade us FOR ONCE. Nobody can even touch us.
This comment section is frightening. A bunch of armchair military experts and nationalists from all side spewing ignorant nonsense. The best outcome for everyone is not fight a war.
Iran could use its ballistic missiles to target gulf state cities and oil production infrastructure. It couldn't win a war, but the price of victory could be made so high, it would make victory taste very bitter, especially for gulf state US allies.
Sure, and Iran will burn, their culture and identity destroyed, their cities razed to the ground, their people dead by the millions and they will not receive any help from anybody, due to them attacking the refineries. Iran isn't stupid enough to do that, because refineries can be repaired, but a country that has been bombed to the stone age never will.
@@worldman3218 If the US decides to be warmonger again and go forward with war, Iran has been preparing for decades for this war, they will attack hard and cause irreparable damage. No one will win. The Persians have dealt with invasions for a long time through their culture, and they are quite well aware of their harsh geography, which USA troops will have an extremely hard time in. Like I said no one will win. Iran does not want this war. Iran has been cooperative while the USA has been the bully and an immature fool breaking international law over and over.

So what’s to say they wouldn’t help support a regime change? Trump has made it clear to Iran that he and the US have no ill will for Iran’s people. Only the government that oppresses them. Those massive protests weren’t for nothing.
Basra in the Southern part of Iraq is a strong hold of Shia Muslims. A US invasion launched from Wahhabi Saudi Arabia against the Shia regime in Iran will have difficult time passing Basra on their way to Iran
That's all Iranian controlled area, IRGC Quds Commander, shadow general as he is known, General Qasem Soleimani commands most of southern Iraq. They are all Iranian Shia backed forces.
Exactly. And even an Air Campaign alone won't make the Iranians sit still. They will cross into Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to target the Air Bases, forcing a land war. They know casualties are a factor with the US public. So a ground war is beneficial to them, not to mention China and Russia whom will supply large quantities of light weapons and endless ammo. The entire region will be in flames. Maybe that is the plan.

I am Canadian, Iran is not a country that anyone looks at with disgust! The Iranian people may hate their own government, but this is not a reason for foreign countries to invade their homeland. Having advanced weapons does not always guarantee you victory. If the United States or Israel start a war with Iran, Persians will end it You are not only fighting an Iranian army, but also 80 million Iranians with love for their homeland So do not underestimate this country I hope the wise people want peace. War is not a good way to show your power
Iraq war was a complete different story because people taught their government was the best and loved them(kinda brain washed) but now with the new generation if you ask any of them they would fight for Iran it's probably a no
In my opinion, as long as this regime is in Iran, peace with the United States is far from expected, but war is not the right way. I hope that one day the Iranian people will achieve what they really deserve 🇨🇦❤🇮🇷
Iran can also do something that Iraq could not. They have the potential to hit the US directly because of sleeper cells within the USA. While it will not strategically affect the front lines, it could be a useful political tool for Iran as some Americans don't have the stomach for war.
Attacking the US is definitely not in Irans best interest. Pearl Harbor and 9/11 shows that Americans come together after attacks and that war support rises. If Iran's goal is to use the US public's war support against the government then it would think twice about attacking US soil.
@@LewLewVuitton Terrorism is often used when a country is outmatched in a conventional warfare, but its effectiveness is unpredictable. Sometimes it'll just piss the invader's nation off more, the other time it can cause the invader withdraw, or if they haven't invade yet, make them reconsider. It's a dangerous bet, regardless, terrorism can sometimes keep the defender nation's free, but it could also risks retaliation that may lead to more civilians (that insurgents are "supposed" to protect) being killed. But then again, if someone resorted to terrorism, they have no other choice left (the reason why US war with Japan and Vietnam didn't lead to terrorism from those countries because their conventional forces can still hold up).
@@LewLewVuitton Depends on what they target. If they target civilian, ofc it will backfire. But if they attack administration or military facilities, while not being the aggressor (unlike Pearl Harbor), they could get the same effect on the US population than during the Vietnam war.

Didn't retired US Marine General Paul Van Riper beat the US in a war game with a simulated Iranian force? So much fighting about politics and ideologies in the comments, but nothing about battle tactics
The comments never disappoint here, watching a bunch of 10 year old keyboard warriors with no sense of how warfare even works circlejerking around gotta be more entertaining than Binkovs videos itself.
Binkov's comment section is always so full of salt and poorly-written comments. It's just a military strategy video, he always spends time saying he's not taking the reasonability or world consequences of the war he's looking at into account.
Morale is almost impossible to predict, anyone could say "my country is braver," but the thing with human psychology is that it can flip upside down in mere minutes. Binkov do include morale in his analysis, but it's not emphasized upon because of the aforementioned reason. The US, on paper, would win in the war of attrition against Iran due to larger population pool and larger economy, but modern, real-life war have never been fought "to the last man," political, morale, and logistics determined the victors. If your country has an overwhelming numerical advantage, but your enemy is half the world away and you can only send few thousands troops at the time, you lose by logistical failure. If you have all the advantages except for morale and politics, your citizens will eventually think the war is stupid and will resist draft and other supports (like in the game of chess, it doesn't matter if you lose only few pawns but your enemy have only king left, if you knocked your own king piece down, you lose the game).
Lets see Afganistan held us at bay for 20 years and they were basically an unarmed country. Only possessing light arms. Now Iran has the largest most modern military in the region. So what do you like ??
Russia and China have not been considered in your hypothesis and the fact that any gulf state would surely be targeted by Iranian ballistic missiles. I would be very surprised if Russian advisers have not been in Iran preparing Iranian troops for years.
@@michaelpetrovich5353 I don't believe America will attack Iran unless they get the full backing of NATO. Russia will give Iran all the weapons it needs to defend itself. American government will need public opinion to be on their side as well. Vietnam ended because Americans lost the will to continue. Afghanistan would definitely go the same way if American troops come home in body bags in the same way. Iran would be tougher than Afghanistan because their population would be as the population of Vietnam determined to protect their homes. With that kind of will, America can not win. America can defeat armies, but not peoples minds.
I also think that this analysis misses the major point that Kuwait is largely dependent on the Gulf for its oil exports which Iran’s fleet of speed boats and mini subs could easily blockade. Maybe only for a few weeks but that would no doubt hurt Kuwait’s economy.
America cant attack to iran because it will be so expensive for them in this economy situation . I think world war 3 will start in taiwan .the persian empire Guaranteed by the alliance of China and Russia. And we are witnessing the transfer of power from the West to the East, and the mafia that emerged after World War II will be destroyed .America will disintegrate in a few years and the glue of federalism will disappear .If the Americans reach Iran, Iran will have access to American territory through Venezuela, and the world has seen how incapable of American missiles defense against Iranian missiles. Long story short: if America wanted to take the gloves off, its military would be more unstoppable than it is in the movies. In other words, if they fought w/ the same morality as its opponents (e.g. Islamofascists or commies), the other side would beg for mercy.
@@jvgace6883 there’s a difference between conventional militaries, that wear uniforms, and are easy to see, and forces like the Vietcong, and the taliban, which are not conventional, against a force like Russia, the us definitely would NOT be unstoppable, but as we have seen with invasions into Iraq in 2003, which was a comparable military to Iran of now, it was completely one sided, and Iraq had no chance of winning

They showed a boy defending his family with a Kalashnikov against an invading American soldier as a terrorist.
I believe the Iranians moral would be fairly high, this would likely be due to their very long and natural history. Unlike the rest of the Middle East following World War 1, Iran (persia) was not balkanized like the remnants of the Ottoman empire. The reason Iraq's troops would occasionally surrender without a fight is because they were not of the same ethnicity or religious sect. Iran on the other hand is composed of mostly ethnic Iranians who, for the most part, share the same branch of religion and support for thier secular government. So a prediction of years of bloody and fierce fighting on both sides would be accurate.
Nikolay Mikhayluts Yes the Iranians would be a very tough crowd. Even after the collapse of their government and loss of their military, some ex soldiers or even civilians could take arms and start a guerrilla war against the occupying Americans. This could lead to Iranian freedom fighters and terrorist groups ambushing US forces, terrorist plots, and even launching attacks on American civilians, committing acts comparable to 9/11, leading to a whole new can of worms. Would truly be a shit show if the Americans went to war with Iran. The war itself would be brutal and long, the Iranians have a decent military. After the Americans eventually won over, the occupation and keeping the peace would be hard. Look at Iraq. 16 years after the 2003 invasion and its still a war torn country. Iran would be like that just on a much larger scale, having further repercussions on the wider world.
Even with 30% being fit, that's more than 8 million that you would need. The US doesn't need to occupy anything. Occupation is totally optional. The strength of the US is the ability to win in offensive campaigns. Sitting around in an occupation is a recipe for insurgency. Simply razing the country to the stone age would secure the US's strategic goals without the need to provide Iranians fairly stationary targets. I think the US has learned that lesson.

Interesting, but I wonder why you include US regional allies but not Iran's regional allies? I guess because this analysis of war relies heavily on technology.
What regional allies? Syria is in ruins and won't play a part, Hezballa in Lebanon is completly dependant on Iran and does not have the ability to assist in such war, Russia and China might support it with equipment and maybe try slow down the economic decline, but both would never engage in direct war with the US.
I may think that Iran is a very disagreeable regime, I will say, I’m kinda glad we aren’t fighting them, because If we were we would have to destroy the last remaining F-14 tomcats in existence, and those things are a treasure
@KingdomofBabylonLost what in 2003? Afghanistan and Iraq were both successfully invaded and occupied with minimal casualties. Stretching that shit out for decades without any clear goal anymore is where it becomes muddled. Trump wanted to grandstand with the Afghanistan withdrawal, but we'd still be there otherwise, just like how we're still in Iraq.
1. Iran has much worse geography for an invasion, it is filled with many mountains and barren deserts, it is more similar to Afghanistan than Iraq 2. Domestic resistance to the Iranian government is very large, however I doubt much of them will be supporting the US in this war as they would be seen more as a foreign invader than liberator. 3. The Iranian government is not in as bad of an economic position as the Iraqi government was before Desert Storm. Yes, you can make the argument that Iran is under heavy sanctions, however Russia and China have come in to fill this economic gap. Iraq's war with Iran was so costly for Iraq that it costed more money than all of the money Iraq had made from the oil industry in the decades preceding it. 4. The US would likely not have a big coalition backing them like they did in '91. The main reason that the Gulf War even happened was because Iraq invaded Kuwait, which angered the international community into forming the coalition. In this situation it is the opposite, it is the US invading a country, and much of the international community would either be neutral or release unbinding condemnations on the USA (with the possible exception of Russia and China, who may supply Iran). In addition, as the USSR was falling apart during the Gulf War, this was the first year in which the USA had a free-hand at doing basically whatever it wanted as it became the sole superpower. As a result, they did crippling bombings of Iraq before the invasion which was so bad Iraq regressed into a temporary stone age and never recovered for the next 12 years. Today, the situation is different, and Russia and China will most likely back Iran, in this multipolar environment the USA would not be able to do these things again or else they would risk facing harsh retaliation. I still do think, despite all these factors, that the US would still win out the war. However, it would be EXTREMELY costly, and once the US takes over, the guerilla war which would follow (in terms of casualties for the US) would be less like Afghanistan and more like Vietnam, possibly higher. Millenium Challenge 2002 already showed that Iran would likely be able to inflict crushing defeats on the US even despite their technological and military inferiority compared to the US.
One factor you may not be considering. If Iran has already built a nuclear weapon all it takes is a group of Russian, Chinese or Pakistani scientists to show them how to miniaturize it into battlefield nuclear weapons (i.e. nuclear torpedoes, nuclear artillery). If they have figured that out, US casualties will multiply.
@@leosch6706 Iran keeps everything they do a secret. Its impossible to tell if they have or how many they would have. Imagine if they only had, say, a dozen. 12 small nuclear blasts against the United states military is nothing to take lightly. Not to mention, the radioactivity it would cause in the air.
Ava Fury Escalation calls for escalation. You use a tactical nuclear weapons on the US the US will probably use one on you. And before claiming that the US using nukes would cause a reaction from the Russians or the Chinese they will deliver via bomber not missiles to avoid misinterpretation. It would not be a reasonable approach by the iranians. Less they go into a “TOTALENKRIEG” type of mentality in that case is free game and tons of deads, mostly Iranians.
55 percent of Iran is mountainous and more than 100 peaks are higher than 4000 meters. Iranians are experts at guerilla warfares and tactics. They have an 8 year war experience with Iraq and they also participated in waging guerilla attacks against the US in Iran by supporting local Iraqi militias and they have a very good idea of how American weapons work and their weaknesses. Moreover, they have trained and participated in wars against Israel along side with Hizbollah and they actively participated in the most ferocious war in Syria using some incredible tactics. Additionally, they helped Iraq in their war with ISIS and gained incredible amount of experience by countering ISIS guerilla tactics. These are just few examples!! Iranians might not fully support their government but in case there's ever an attack then that will unite them and they'll put up a serious fight. Iranians are very patriotic and their loyalty to their country is commendable. Iran can also accelerate their nuclear development and obtain nuclear capabilities within few weeks of additional enrichment. Putin can also return the favor to the US and start dumping billions of dollars worth of advanced weapons and ammunitions into Iran. The only way for the US to win this war is by dropping nuclear weapons on every single Iranian city and village. But, I know our politicians and our military industrial complex very well and I wouldn't be surprised if the US started a war with Iran in the next decade or so.
Iran couldn't defeat Iraq in 8 years and the US walked through Iraq in 6 weeks. If a soldier was 18 years old when that war ended in 1988, he would be 54 years old now and any experience from that time long forgotten and would not be much of a threat today. Iran would be even easier to defeat than Iraq was because of the extensive coast lines in both the North and South. Couple this with the fact that almost all of their major cities are 50 miles or less from those coasts, which allows our Navy to bomb them into submission, as our Air Force took out everything that moved on the ground. They would be starved out in a month, the same as Iraq was in '91. Any guerilla fighters can run to the hills and hide in caves, there is no need to find those guys to defeat Iran. If we tried to "occupy" Iran, there would be the same issues that every occupation brings, but there would be absolutely no need to do so to defeat them.
Iraq had the fourth largest army in the world in the war against Iran and was financially and militarily supported by the Arabs, the Soviet Union, China, the United States and other Western countries. West Germany, for example, provided them with chemical weapons to kill civilians. Of course, early in the Iraq war, it was able to occupy several cities for two years, but a few years later, Iran pushed them back empty-handed. When the United States invaded Iraq, due to Iraq's long war with Iran and the Iraqi government's economic problems and lack of equipment and Lack of support from Western, Arab and communist countries and lack of fighters, etc., finally with the help of 40,000 British troops and the support of NATO, Japan, Australia and Korea and ... They were able to occupy Iraq. So this comparison is not fair enough. so your America did not do it alone

I was a scout in Desert Storm. The Army held educational classes to teach us about the history and culture differences in the middle east to help us understand the political views, how history molded the current middle east, and why they don't want western cultures there. I remember when the US embassy in Iran was taken for a full year during the Carter Administration, and the US embassy in Beirut was bombed, as well as the year prior to 9/11, among many other incidents. Throughout the last 1500 years the middle eastern countries have made a very clear message, and repeated it clearly and consistently: They do not want their culture influenced by the west, they are willing to partake in trade and allow tourism, but no occupation by any foreigners.
Good point but I am pretty sure middle east has been around for 10000 years. I think it's not a west vs east thing, don't make it that. Its just that no one likes foreign invasions. If Saudi Arabia or Iran let's say occupied your country you wouldn't be so happy about it either. I hope.

They helped Vietnam in the Vietnam war they helped Middle-East countries vs Israel and Iraq army was mostly USSR bought equipment. Every modern war was supported by one side of the other its nothing new.
We've seen the RF's weapons orders and weapons exports collapse since the conflict started. Everyone has seen how poorly they stack up against 30+ year old NATO gear wielded by half trained Ukrainian soldiers. Chinese arms, maybe though.
So... Russia and China would do what they've already been doing since the end of WW2? Why would we be surprised by them supplying America's enemies? America supplying Ukraine is basically Vietnam in reverse, they like dishing it out but not taking it?
Given Iran's location, being close to much of the worlds oil supply and the consequences of it's loss to the world economy, war with Iran it would be a very silly thing to do. However, I've no doubt that the US is militarily capable of invasion and a victory. The question really is, is the US public prepared to take the inevitable huge amount of casualties physically, politically and economically that would result from such a venture?
There is no way the USA is capable of invading Iran. It would take many months for the US to build up the necessary troops, and such a troop build-up can only have one rationale i.e. the invasion of Iran. So there is no reason on Earth for the Iranians to wait for that invasion force to assemble. They can mobilize 500,000 men the moment they see those troops pouring into Saudi Arabia and yell "Defensive war! Defensive war!" and then do a number on CENTCOM forces. After all, that's how Israel won the Six-Day-War, and what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

First, let me thank you so much for the big effort you are attempting to put every video you issue.

Yep, It's a geographical fortress
You are absolutely right brother.

Attacking the US is definitely not in Irans best interest. Pearl Harbor and 9/11 shows that Americans come together after attacks and that war support rises. If Iran's goal is to use the US public's war support against the government then it would think twice about attacking US soil.

Terrorism is often used when a country is outmatched in a conventional warfare, but its effectiveness is unpredictable.

@@michaelpetrovich5353 I don't believe America will attack Iran unless they get the full backing of NATO. Russia will give Iran all the weapons it needs to defend itself. Afghanistan would definitely go the same way if American troops come home in body bags in the same way. Iran would be tougher than Afghanistan because their population would be as the population of Vietnam determined to protect their homes. With that kind of will, America can not win. America can defeat armies, but not peoples minds.

1. Iran has much worse geography for an invasion, it is filled with many mountains and barren deserts, it is more similar to Afghanistan than Iraq
Here watching this before WW3
We about to find out
One factor you may not be considering.
They probably couldnt build enough of these weapons.
Ava Fury
Escalation calls for escalation.
@@Alvi410 the Iranians are probably crazy enough to do it though. They don't think like most people. Their leaders are religious extremists.
@@Alvi410 I think if any country in the world is likely to do it, it would not be N. Korea. It would be Iran.

حمله به ایران بی نتیجست.
I'm not a military expert but if you threatening Iran for 40 years and Iran as we all knows are preparing itself for you all those years then if I was Iran I would be so stupid not to have 1000s of missiles aimed at each and every ship and base you've got in the region .
Leave all that . What about oil prices? How much the world happy to pay? For how long? I'm from Iraq . During the war no one stood for Saddam as most of the population against him .
Iranians are different. They won't like to see their country destroyed by the same country that destroyed Afghanistan and Iraq and walked away after interdused Isis
US can hit but not invade Iran yet US will pay very heavy price even for that and as far as I know US don't like to pay . It only go war if only them have the technology to hit from distance and then come on TVs to show how brave they are but if you have that technology it would take its time to think twice or even more
ابو علي ابو علي When america in
when America came after Iraq, I remember your propaganda guy on TV saying the Americans were no where close to Baghdad all the while in the background American tanks are going around the corner on your city street. That was the most hilarious we ever saw. That one moment and the world is still laughing at uour country..Your army surrendering to a USA helicopter flying by.And of course the rat was found hiding in a hole.As far as oil is concerned, america has been #1 petroleum products and oil. Iran has plenty of oil but they have to send it elsewhere to get it turned into gasoline.Iraq had a chance to be great again, better than surrounding countries. But its the same old crap. And now we had to come there again,to get Isis out because your military people are still surrendering all these years.Whoever you sand people pray to,isn't working. The shock and awe words we used to kill Iraqis we won't use on Iran. Iran gets the wtf lmao. Besides Iranians hate their government. That population is already on our side.Whoever you are Iraqi, lay off the camel chips, you're delusional.
@@larryqcowan5657 30 or 40 years ago if I heard someone like you speak this way I wouldn't blame him as you can see and hear only what your media wants you to believe, but now with internet and satellite TVs I will blame you .
Look my brother was in the army during both wars in Iraq. He was in the army because he have to otherwise he would be hanged by the regime and during both wars he was home because no one will defend Saddam and we where so happy to see him fall in any way so dont ever think Iraqis was fighting your guys.
It surprised me to see an Amarican like you talking in proud of your guys did in Iraq or Afghanistan . I hate Saddam ok but during Saddam time we didn't have ISIS . They only came after your guys said Mission Accomplished, and US never fought ISIS I lived in Middle East you have no idea thousands miles away we defited ISIS leave that I don't need to bother with this
But at the end you mentioned that I'm from Iraq and I have nothing to do with this shit .
No my friend if Iran got attacked I promise you will be surprised how many people will be involved
You are absolutely right. You are not a military expert.
@Xtreme Rohan this crashed economy,
This isolated people,
This third world country ....Will show your Cowboys that not every war would be a joy game
What you got? Brain like Trump? Who seceded in the international stupidly exam? Between you and me but don't tell anyone, I wish to see that day but I promise you that you will be surprised

An interesting fact that most don't realize:
Largest air force in the world is the United States Air Force.
Second largest air force in the world is the United States Army.
The third largest air force in the world is the United States Navy and Marines.
Yet they are incompetent enough to lose wars.
Twin Half
The United States military has never lost a war by force of arms. Politics yes, in the field Never lost.

You forgot Russia and China .

Ta Ha turkey is US bitch
Would they really risk a war with NATO? I am not so sure...
@@randonlando418 Russia would not want the USA to take control of Iran so they would definitely provide Iran with some support. If Iran was an easy target, they would have been invaded many many years ago. But the US has always been very scared of a conflict with Iran.
@Eric Smith Russia isn't just going to let the USA overthrow Iran hahah Rusia and China both helped Syria fight back against US attacks. Btw The USA won't do jack shit to Iran without the help of other western nations.
