    That is just beautiful ❤️.. This is art not practiced much. The Knife and other blades were such an itegral part of our lives before we started living in apartments. Have still kept a few somewhere. Love your work👍

    How well does the handle work? I never thought to make a bigger handle for a smaller knife like that, also love the videos!!

      It's a desgin common with wood carving knives, having the wider center makes it easier to apply controlled leverage from the palm, it's also a lot more comfortable depending on the size of your hands.

    Never carve bringing the blade back towards yourself. Always away. Forethought is better than a trip to the E.R. for a literal handful of sutures. 🪡 Great work on transforming that file into a 🔪👍

      Won't get as hot as bismuth coal and it burns way faster and you don't get much use from wood charcoal.

    Im new watching this awesome videos! Have 1 question :) after you put the knife on fire you take it out and throw it in water or oil?? What you put in that metal bottle? Hopefully get the answer so I try to make my own knife ❤️❤️❤️ love the videos dude, never stop!!

      I quench it in oil. If you quench in water there is a high chance of warping or cracking.

    As someone who whittles, I can't imagine having a blade that long would be particularly useful beyond roughing (removing big chunks)

      It reminds me of me of my sloyd knife, but slightly larger. Definitely a large-scale tool, but helpful when you're roughing.

    Well well, nicely done. How donyou get that whole log piece to be charcoal like that as whole piece? Stick it in some sort of anoxic kiln?

      I buy my charcoal from guys that make it and usually they are small pieces but in one bag there were 3-4 big logs like this one. I guess it is made in anoxic kiln/retort like most charcoal but they just didn't chop it to small pieces.

    Well, I’m headed to my forge at 3AM est.
    How do you do your char? That thing was a beast, an I’m trying to get back to basics one may say. I normally operate of gas, if the situation calls for it, coal. I started with the Japanese charcoal method, and have been working my way back, still, how did you do that? ❤

    I'd love to find one of you guys in NZ doing this sort of stuff to provide a bunch of materials to do something like this......I got old cross cut saws and some awesome old native timber. Can probably scrounge together a bunch of old brass to melt down and copper as well. Shit cow bone and Horn fossilised kauri gum and some whale bone as well if I was stretched

      there are mass produced ones that are pretty good and cheap - mora 106 and mora 120

    At the beginning of this video I thought the knife was going to be made out of a charcoaled log. Steel, brass, and unburned wood are probably better material choices.

    What is such a long blade used for? It's not curved, and it's long enough to easily reach your other hand while holding a piece... I'm new to carving and I don't really know all the techniques. It it for hard to reach places?

    You have to anneal it first and sand the teeth of the file first because it can cause cracks. I like forging too

    2 stroke 2 cylinder で Horizontaly Opposite にするなら 2 crank pin になる Boxer にするより 1 crank pin の 180° V type & 1次振動 balance shaft の組み合わせをオススメしたい
    180° V type 2 cylinder の振動は歴史的に最悪評価されて来ましたが、実はピストン同士で速度差を吸収する所為か
    2次以上の往復振動は理論的に0、しかも単一クランクピンなんでピッチ偶力振動やヨー偶力振動も 90° V type 同様に極小なんで、1次振動振動さえバランスシャフトで対処すれば
    Boxer 2 cylinder より低振動なだけでなく、1次偶力振動バランスシャフトを追加した Boxer 2 cylinder よりも低振動なんです。
    論理思考よりも情緒思考&伝統思考に傾倒しがちな日本人に言っても、あんまり信じて貰えないけど。
