How to Turn On Chromebook Developer Mode - Put Chromebook in Dev Mode

- How to turn on Developer Mode on your Chromebook? In this tutorial, I show you how to enable Developer Mode on your Chromebook. This is great if you want to install APK files and extensions that aren't available with the normal Chrome operating system.

Note: installing Developer Mode on your Chromebook will DELETE everything on it. Make sure you back up all files saved on your Chromebook before turning on Dev Mode, or you will lose them.

Note: make sure that your Chromebook is connected to a power source while as you follow the steps below.
How to enable Developer Mode on your Chromebook:
1. Turn on your Chromebook.
2. From the log in screen, press ESC + Reload key + Power button on your keyboard at the same time. Hold these keys until the screen turns off. You should see a message that says "Chrome OS is missing or damaged." Don't worry about this; it is currently in recovery mode.
3. From the error message screen, press CTRL + D on your keyboard. You should see another message that says "To turn OS verification OFF, press Enter..." Press Enter.
4. You should get a message that says "OS verification is OFF..." Press CTRL + D again. This will temporarily turn the screen off. Once it reboots, you should get a message with a count-down timer that says your system is transitioning to Developer Mode.
5. You should get a message that says "OS verification is OFF..." (again) Once again, press CTRL + D. Your screen will turn off and then it will begin to load Chrome OS in Developer Mode.
6. Once this is complete, you will need to set up your Chromebook again by selecting Lets go, connecting to your WiFi network, and logging in to your Google account. Once you've logged in, your Chromebook will be in Developer Mode.
7. Please keep in mind that very time you turn on your Chromebook, you will see the same "OS Verification is OFF" message. Press CTRL + D whenever this appears to log in to your Chromebook.

How do you back up your files and everything important on your chromebook

I want to thank you very much for this. I was stuck with a "known error issue" (for an earlier version but it occurred on my later version) after I updated Chromebook. That issue was marked "fixed" a year ago and there was no help to be found that did anything. The error involved Chrome OS not able to realize it was connected to WiFi and would not allow me to log into CB but only use it in Guest mode ... I needed a powerwash, but in Guest mode Google did not want that to be possible. After plowing through all sorts of unhelpful leads turned up by G search, I hit on this video. As it said that installing Dev Mode would delete all local data, I figured that would be the same as a powerwash, so I followed your instructions. After it counted down and OS Verification was off, I hit Enter to turn it back on and it went out of Dev Mode and to Welcome screen. This fixed the error, this time I logged in to find a nice and clean refreshed OS. Yes I lost a few items I had in Files but there was no way I was going to be able in Guest mode to back them up and no other way to fix the error and use the machine without the powerwash. Again, can't thank you enough, you saved my hide.

Backup your files first so once you're in you can log in to your Google a account everything should be there

There's a guy on here that I respect and I like his input on technology hes a very nice guy and I hold nothing against him I hope everything the best for him and I hope he gets everything you want in life that's sad it's kind of hard to grasp how to go into developer mode when the guy literally has a 8 to 9 minute long video and it sounds more like an audio book than it does instructions

Tip: When turning on dev mode, it will delete all of your saved files and apps. If you have anything important saved to files, I would recommend keeping it on a google slides(link or image). For the apps, if you have an account on them, then you can just re download them after turning on dev mode, then sign in to the account. But you will lose your data on other apps, unless you have that saved or smthn. I have used this exact tutorial before a few months back, but something happened on my end and I have to turn it on again. Also, you might want to write down the directions.

When I shut my computer off and turned it back on the developer mode was off then I pressed the first combination it put me into recovery mode but whenever I press cntrl d it just doesn’t work

I don't know if there's a way. When it is put into developer mode, it is completely rebooted, so everything is reset and erased. It would be ideal to back up your files onto a flash drive to save em'.

Its easy to get in developer mode, but impossible to remove the annoying warnings at boot-up and the very loud beeps, especially on acer mediatek chromebooks.
