Very similar to the old school Tae Kwon Do kicks I have taught for forty years. Big circle on wheel kick with locked leg, striking with the heel. Big motion on roundhouse

There are good Taekwondo places, but more often than not, they're McDojos...as in, a black belt factory.

Well done little boy well done !
The midnight blue belt ( in Tang Soo Do / Soo Bahk Do ) means, that no one has finished learning and black belt means in Korean beliefs, there is no more to learn. However, in some Tang Soo Do organisation, they do use a black belt grading systems as Taekwondo also uses a black belt grading system x

I generally don't see a stepping side kick performed with the step in front of the kicking leg outside of Sei Shan. Stepping behind generates more power and seem to have a more natural movement for the body.

Soo Bak Do,..Master Hwang Gee,...created this...then became Tang Soo DO,...HIS NEPHEW Y.C. kIM took over,
my instructor was SAI BAM NIM..HOWARD LONG. Dayton, Ohio...this was back in the mid 70;s...
our classes were monday thru fri(6-9 pm), i never missed a class for 15 months straight!...
Under His instruction, at my green belt i was competing against black belts,...today from what i have seen
its nothing like it was back then, then it was very difficult to even brutal.
full contact, no gear other then cup and mouthpiece or a occasional shin pad.
i won 3 state championships, 3rd place in nation and was nominated to U.S. Olympic team in 1983.
Master Long taught exceptional basics, conditioning, balance, breathing, timing ..didnt focus on fancy stuff to much
I cannot even remember all the injuries, lol, we sustained thruout that time period, it was far different then today from
    what i see.

Why are they doing so many high kicks? The old school taught 3-4 levels. It seems we focused much more on side kicks, round kicks, hook or heel kicks and back kicks. Not nearly as much spinning.....we did it.....just not as much.

HappyGizmo993 In the movie "Way of the Dragon" (over seas release title), also known as "Return of the Dragon," with Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Bob Wall, and Ing-Sik Whang, a student of Tang Soo Do and a Hapkido Grand Master, Bruce Lee executes a real leg round house kick - spinning round house combination on Chuck Norris in the Roman Coliseum, Master v Master fight scene. Another Hapkido master, Ji Han-Jae, appeared in Bruce Lee's incomplete martial arts film "Game of Death." Both Ing Sik Whang and Ji Han-Jae were employed in the Chinese Martial Arts film industry for several movies. Nevertheless Lee's execution of the rear roundhouse, spinning wheel kick combination is beautiful and worth watching.

***** I was just wondering if it was "midnight blue" that was used when TSD was founded.
I agree, no one is perfect and there i always more.....hell, a lot to learn.
That's what's so great about the martial art.

I love this art; but be careful.
Mind your timing, retraction, and footwork.
All I saw after some of these kicks were executed was how the individual would've gotten suplexed in an actual combative situation. 🥋🤼

The kicks are practiced this way for development as well as having practical applications . It is easy to take the big circle of the wheel kick and turn it elliptical after learning the mechanics of the bigger motion. These are excellent kicks. The application of them is where real science comes to the fore. I have taught students how to land this kick from almost behind the opponent, on his blind spot. It comes over the opponents shoulder before he registers it. A big roundhouse can be set up in a similar fashion with a reverse punch preceding it. This is the best way to learn how to land these kicks. Relying on speed and trimmed motion is handy and necessary for modern sport Tae Kwon Do, which I have taught, but if you want to learn how to really do damage, timing and guile are best, imo.

    • @saturnaut

+Michael Dexter It is green, which is only the second belt after white. There are no black belts in Soo Bahk Do. Dark blue is the dan or "black" belt.

    • @MrMegamike2k
      @MrMegamike2k 7 років тому +2

He is more than likely a 6th gup "green belt". In my school, and I don't know if this is the standard in other kwans, to obtain your 1st dan "black belt" it is a minimum 3-5 years. So for that kid to be performing those kicks at green belt is pretty common. Also, to answer your question, SBD means "combat with bare hands and feet" and is the oldest of the Korean martial arts. Tang Soo!!
