hey scott, long time subscriber and carpenter from the uk here. just wanted to say that these videos, the most recent ones in particular I can only really describe as soul healing. I've been working in the trade since I left school and have long felt myself disillusioned in my line of work. I'm sure every tradesman or woman has had those moments of doubt.. the physical toll on your body, the pressure to meet crunch deadlines and passing comments of people who look down on anything construction adjacent for whatever reason. can't count how many times I've thought about throwing in the towel and trying something else, especially in my first few years but in the end everything kind of just works itself out. it is the satisfaction that comes with problem solving and making mistakes that makes this so rewarding when it all materialises. sorry for being overbearing on a video about fixing plywood to a ceiling but these videos are just so extremely authentic and encapsulate the best parts of this line of work, thanks for uploading
@jimbon You might want to look up Lighthouse Club The Construction Industry Charity UK. It is a nice way to meet others in construction in the UK and in many other countries around the world.
Nikita is a delight. So impressed with her giving-it-a-go'iness (which I believe is a Japanese word). She will gain so much craft, skill and life experience in JPN. I am humbly inspired.
Amazing inspiration guys! I'm heading to Japan myself to stop the decay of a 200yo house next week. Been on my in laws fam forever. Your tips are great!
Scott I don’t want to loose you to Japan however, thoroughly enjoying watching this reno, Japanese tool shopping and your trip! Glad you’ve extended your trip!
Excellent episode! I have travelled quite a bit and without doubt the most rewarding experiences are if you get a chance to live with the locals. Experiencing everyday people just going about their lives. For me it's the people and culture I find most interesting. I don't like to rush through a country hitting all the tourist hotspots so I can collect t-shirts. I much prefer to stay in one location and explore and really get to absorb the culture.
Love your content! One reference got me lol " okay the thing about Japanese ceilings you don't need a ladder I feel like Raymond" Keep up with the good work!! Wish I could visit Japan sometime.
6:18 正, you got the kanji right but the order of the final two strokes is wrong. The short vertical stroke is the fourth, and the bottom horizontal one is the fifth.
Loving the Japan content, we leave in 26 days and this is getting me really excited for the trip. We travelled on the Shinkansen past Lake Biwa on our last trip, such beautiful contry
So Scott’s and Jess’ ideal and relaxing vacation is shopping for tools needed for work and renovating a total stranger’s home. Awesome! 😂😂😂 But another question though. Can he hang doors in Japan?
"This series of UA-cam stories about renovating and working on Nikita's home has been fantastic. 'Japain from the Grassroots' offers a unique perspective, showcasing the lives of everyday people. It's a refreshing take compared to most documentaries. Thank you for sharing this incredible journey!"
Brilliant episode! I have watched all of your videos Scott and this is amongst the best. Beautiful build and a lovely playful fun narrative with excellent videography (especially given challenging lighting). So good! Thanks Scott, Jess and Nikita!
The light that Scott bought reminds me of the mini robots in Disney's Big Hero 6. I forsee at least 2 of those fan vest making their way back to New Zealand....
@ 5:00… I've never seen saw "horses" like that… I am immediately intrigued. I've been away for a few videos, so maybe they were in a previous one, but I really dig those. So cool.
Scott, make sure to get yourself a nice kitchen knife while yoire there. Love your videos and your personality.Tired Itish lad here who loves to do cabinet making and any construction/ plumbing work on my nerver competed home. Love toi New zealand, hope to fo back one day.
Brilliant video SBC.. you and Jess are a great team .. what an amazing person Nikita is. Does it rain alot in the area as everything looks very green & lush?🎉😎🎉
Is New Zealand as strict as Australia with bringing things back from overseas? I am the only one just thinking how over the weight limit were Scot and Jes's bags after being in Japan?
Good to know that Japanese use the Kanji (Chinese character) "正" to tally. That's how Chinese count as well. She got the 4th stroke and the 5th stroke in reverse. If she did the bottom stroke last like she said in the video, she would have got it right. But hey, who cares? She still counted to 5 :D
How on earth did you find Nakita, I think you punched in a long list into GPT and she is AI generated. Couldn’t have found a better fit for your channel.
For a while now ive been wandering round the house randomly saying "Scott Brown here...." My wife thinks I've lost the plot but its just my salute to a fellow chipie. 🪚🔨
The Japanese gov’t needs to do more to increase the population. I worry that some of their history, tradition, experience, and knowledge will be lost. Especially when it comes to traditional home building.
Oh Nikita is such a lovely Individual- I think k you need a Scott brown Japan offspin run by Nikita. Btw pretty sure 9/10 would love to date her - wonderful spirit
Yeah kiwis bashing Australians all the time is so parochial it annoys the beep out of me. Makes me embarrassed to be a kiwi. Kiwis can be real eggs sometimes.
Yeah I remember being totally puzzled when a Kiwi at work was telling me how he was bought up to bash Aussies. But puzzlement soon turned into me having a little bit of a giggle about it.
Are you watching the same episodes that I'm watching? They are learning from the Japanese and teaching an Australian. And just for the record, their Kiwis, not American or Brits. Other than that everything you've said is perfectly true, have a nice day mate.....

Keep up good work. Good luck to you. And in future, if you can, visit japan)

0:47 i love that you still number the episodes
Digging the Japanese “smoko time”. Legend.
Nikita: I just got it at the local little hardware.
Scott: Take me to your local little hardware!!
Love your content! One reference got me lol
" okay the thing about Japanese ceilings you don't need a ladder I feel like Raymond" Keep up with the good work!! Wish I could visit Japan sometime.
Just imagine if you could get Flouncy Gardenwear as a sponsor & I reckon Jess is the perfect model for them.
6:18 正, you got the kanji right but the order of the final two strokes is wrong. The short vertical stroke is the fourth, and the bottom horizontal one is the fifth.
Thank you, scott brown.

Great combined job, looks good. Thanks for the latest exciting episode.👍👍
Loved the Japanese 'Smoko Time' title card!
Always jealous! I have one of the Makita 18V fan jackets, yes they are VERY nice. Looks like you guys are having so much fun in Japan!
Scott Brown travels the world and helps with your projects is a series I would definitely follow 😊 🇨🇦. Also fantastic ad read Jess.
Boost this comment!
I dig that right angle circular saw guide
Thank you and have a wonderful week.
Scott Brown in Japan with cool tools what more could you ask for.
So Scott’s and Jess’ ideal and relaxing vacation is shopping for tools needed for work and renovating a total stranger’s home. Awesome! 😂😂😂

Loving the Japan series. And Nikita has such a great attitude and is so brave

Scott shuld really hook up with her. Would be more interesting to wach

Awesome video, Scott! Loving the Japan content!
This visit to Japan makes me want to move there.

After MANY YEARS of experience now, I can't tell you how often these days I get it on the first try... the fourth time.
Would love to hear more about what you learned from In Praise of Shadows (and learnings from whatever else you're reading and how you're applying it)!
😊more marvellous tool shopping please, love the variety.
You guys must participate in a Japanese TV Game Show 😊
The link to that air vest please
Great work
😮
The stroke order for the SHO kanji (to count to 5) - the bottom horizontal stroke is actually the last one
Surely you will do a Japanese version of your iconic introduction line while you're overseas.
Loving the content all the way from Japan!
I love Nikita.

G,day from Sydney Australia. The supporting timber beams could benefit with a stain and coat of Shellac.
🌏🇦🇺
Love it!
Hey Scott , we were just there in Japan around Osaka and Kyoto last week. I told my wife you were here and was trying to keep an eye out for you lol
Nikita probably uses Makita tools
Hitachi.
Sorry. Hikoki now……
SO. COOL. 🤩
Anyone know the model number for the 18v Makita drill that he has the 40v version of that he loves
We have a lot of those hand tools in Hawaii due to the Japanese who immigrated to work there over the last century.
Wonder if Scott found his saw blades in stock while over there for his tiny saw.
did they have any of those new Makita tool storage containers?
Is New Zealand as strict as Australia with bringing things back from overseas?
I am the only one just thinking how over the weight limit were Scot and Jes's bags after being in Japan?
You can book additional luggage - if done properly its not that expensive- and when you upgrade it business or first it’s included
Where can I get those slippers Scott is rocking at 20:50 ?
Hey Scott what timber is the ply?
正しい - she got it right
Actually no, 4th one goes down not horizontal.
Lawson and Family Marts were great
Literally everyone watching now wants a fan-vest
Ok 😁 (Great work everyone!)
I love your overralls but dont love the price. Literally chocked on my coffee
They are each handmade by a local woman in Nelson with 100% cotton. Definitely not a mass produced item!
17:07 why have a bus stop outside your house, when you can have a vending machine instead!
nice shot of the bullet train
Omg Nikita! (Total babe)

I think you need to do a collab with Shoyan Japanese Carpenter.
11:27 I’m pretty sure that that’s a war crime Scott !
jess just look at the seeds in the store. the environmental agency in new zealand gonna have her searched after the plane lands lol
♡
Her name is Makita !, from this day forth
I would trust a 90 year old Japanese house to have more parallel and plumb boards than a 5 year old USA house.
So you guys planning to move to Japan yet ? I think it would make a great show : )
So... That new smoko time is becoming a shirt right?
How on earth did you find Nakita, I think you punched in a long list into GPT and she is AI generated. Couldn’t have found a better fit for your channel.

🪚🔨
I always wonder how the Japanese with their awesome sense of aesthetics can live with those horrible ceiling lamps. They seem to be everywhere
Why Japan have so much plastic on any item or food item ?
The Japanese gov’t needs to do more to increase the population. I worry that some of their history, tradition, experience, and knowledge will be lost. Especially when it comes to traditional home building.
No vapor barrier 🤔
Nah, it sweats.
OK.
Oh Nikita is such a lovely Individual- I think k you need a Scott brown Japan offspin run by Nikita.

Lets hope someone applied for a work visa before he travelled to Japan.
Yeah kiwis bashing Australians all the time is so parochial it annoys the beep out of me. Makes me embarrassed to be a kiwi. Kiwis can be real eggs sometimes.
Yea well at least we bash ourselves as well as our mates
At least you drive on the wrong side of
It's a equal over the Tas, with Aussies tacking the Micky out of us. It was the continual sheep jokes that peeved me.
Yeah I remember being totally puzzled when a Kiwi at work was telling me how he was bought up to bash Aussies. But puzzlement soon turned into me having a little bit of a giggle about it.
How do you say I got a pin nail stuck in my eyeball in Japanese? SAFETY GLASSES!
try to find someone on a building site that wears eye protection for nails, doesnt exist
Get back to the carpentry please… Start a second channel for your holiday adventures
Смешны дела твои Господи!! Американцы(англичане-не важно) приехали в Японию и ,,научили" японцев работать с деревом!!😂
Are you watching the same episodes that I'm watching?
