August 19, 1962 - President John F. Kennedy takes a swim at the beach in Santa Monica, CA.

- President John F. Kennedy going for a swim in the ocean behind his brother-in-law's home in Santa Monica, Calif., and being mobbed by hundreds of bathers.
Kennedy was staying at the Santa Monica home of his brother-in-law actor Peter Lawford for his L.A. visit. At about 5 p.m., Kennedy emerged for a quick dip in the ocean.
Amazing how accessible the president was to the public even in a small moment like that! Never again.
yea , way too accessible and he paid for it
@@christopherstarr8050 The top should have been up on the Lincoln in Dallas. I mean even Jackie Could have been killed. So irresponsible. Kennedy was taking chances and he knew it.
@@christopherstarr8050 absolutely. I remember reading somewhere that the secret service tried to convince him to ride with the top up but he refused.
Jack had a special grace, an understated coolness, a reservation of movement, emotion, and expression that resonated with Americans for its air of remoteness, self-reliance, and existential valor. He was a unique thinker and public figure years ahead of his time. We shall not see his like again, in American politics and life.
+Will Ruha ~ WELL SAID... I enjoyed your posting.
+Charlie Brown Thanks, CB. Jack Kennedy had a rare gift in American politics - a true belief in egalitarian democracy that derived not simply from the early onset of Addison's Disease that nullified any feelings he might have otherwise had of superiority owing to wealth and privilege, but based as well on his comfort with, and respect for, those of all social, class, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds with whom he served in WWII. The men with whom he served revered him, telling me that he had no pretensions, no hauteur, no sense of superiority at all, that he was happy to be accepted as "just one of the guys," (although, they told me, he was "terribly bright and funny. He had a GREAT sense of humor.") That is so rare in American politics. Jack truly liked people, respected them for who they were, wanted the best for them, and sought, via his policies and programs, to aid them in the full realization of their respective dreams and ambitions. A good guy - and great president. I miss him.
Will Ruha HEAR HEAR..
Yeah...not quite the same if it was LBJ, or Nixon, goes for a swim.
Pity he was killed by his own state institutions.
Unless a secret service man picked it up, he probably never saw his shirt again. I just love this video - it so reminds me of the happy time when he was our President. I love him.
When I see film or video of President John F. Kennedy, a wonderful feeling of joy comes over me and I immediately smile and think how fortunate we were to have this wonderful and Blessed man as our Chief Executive for those Thousand Days in the early 1960s.
We have a treasure trove of his speeches, quotes, video and film archives to learn from and grow!
Thank You Mr. President.
REST IN PEACE ~
PRESIDENT JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY.
Hope you recieve this msg...as from 2 yrs ago💁♀️was yours. But I agree...and I was born a few centuries after his murder..But absolutely💯 a truly joyously feeling of strength and gentleness.❤😊✨🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
A fact God does not ok sin (fornication) nor dies God bless chronic sinning.
He truly embodied the future of america! So much that could have been! Such a tremendous loss! He was one of a kind!
@@Gigi1111Layna l'm sure you meant to say years, unless you're a time traveller lol.
For one brief shining moment greatness touched those waters.
Can you imagine that? Our president comes out of his brother in laws home, walks across the beach and takes a dip in the ocean. A simple pleasure for anyone to enjoy, and no one bothered him. Of course the people on the beach were struck by his presence, but they let him enjoy himself for a short time. So much has changed...
Loved the wording!!!!!!
I am not sure how the water was at that time.. but I know it was getting pretty polluted in the late 1960s onward. I know of a surfer who after one unfortunate day swimming has lived with a chronic skin condition all over his body believed to be from some sewage that he was swimming/surfing in, in that Santa Monica water. I sense at that time, the government was not as closely looking at the condition of the water as they are today. I won't swim in it, even now. It's too risky for me.
He ran into the ocean with the enthusiasm of an 8-year-old, who had never done it before. This young president represented a prosperous era for the whole Western civilization, while being the symbol of the real American ideal. Just like its leader, the US was full of ambition - that would take mankind to the Moon by the end of the decade.
It's deeply saddening to see who sits in his office by his table nowadays, and to see how the country has lost its true meaning.
Bet you thought it couldn’t get worse eh? 😆
The Kennedys truly loved the sea.
JFK was really not a good person. Drug addict and serial cheater
Now that is cool.I loved how the people just MULTIPLIED around him. That had to have been the greatest day at the beach.
I heard a story of bill Clinton driving to what is called the 3rd Street promenade one night. I presume it was a slow night.. but heard a kid performer on saxophone.. and went out of the limo to go see the kid play. I presume he did it in a low as key as a possible way with the secret service? I heard this from one or more of the other street performers.. this would have been way before Twitter, youtube, ticktock, and social media we have today. This might have occurred while he was running for president. I imagine it would have been a whole lot easier for him to pull off than after he got elected?
My dad and I were in the water just down the beach a few hundred feet that day
Great memory
Yea right
I wasn't alive nor were my parents old enough to think of having babies but looking at videos of this President, especially this one bring tears. Such a loss!
A normal acting person who was the most classy, intelligent, generous person ever to occupy the White House - approachable and down to earth.
God Bless him one of the greatest ever
I read that he ditched his Secret Service team and went into the ocean on his own. They overheard the commotion and ran out to surround him. He later claimed that it was one of the best swims he ever had.
This makes me feel like 😢. We will never, ever see a leader here in the USA like this again. I’m grateful I was alive to witness at least a little bit of it. Rest in peace, Mr. President.
🇺🇸
I was there that day. 12 years old. I went into the water and swam within a few feet of the President. Secret service guys in the water with him. Memorable day at Sorrento Beach.
You truly were one lucky kid that day, sir. Wish i had been there.....Cheers
Thanks for sharing my friend!
amazing how close one could be to the President back then.
woah that’s awesome
Wow .. one amazing reply read on the internet today
So beautiful. I was around 5 or 6 years old and living in Peru, South America. The whole world looked up to the USA!
Never ever be another JFK!
55 yrs this Nov., I was 6 yrs. old when he was shot and I'm still smh.
Ever...
But people can rise up to the occasion. If people are sufficiently inspired, people do wonderful things.
RFK would have been just as great
Such a magnetic personality, Jack Kennedy. Being the president only magnified it thousandfold but magnetic he was.. He lives on in our memory..
The music makes it so sad. JFK was the most attractive President we ever had.
What's the music used in the background?
Oh, I don't know about that, I heard Taft was quite a looker😀
@@petediamond2721 Yeah right 😂😂😂😂
True there
Obama is no Quasimodo.
I think JFK was the coolest President you guys ever had.
Jack what they did to you. Bless.
Some say it was the mafia as RFK was still going after them as AG, so instead of killing RFK they thought get rid of JFK & RFK will automatically no longer be AG. A horrible history & horrible for his entire family.
This shows JFK's ultra confidence. One could never imagine Dick Nixon ever doing such (He tried to duplicate JFK's ease in the beach - yet wore hs wing tips whike strolling in the sand. Thanks for sharing this!
What's wrong with wing tip shoes? Kennedy war Brooks brother suits mark
My how times have changed since those days!!! Happy days, happy times.
He really was quite an amazing President!
This was at Santa Monica Beach. JFK was staying at his brother in law Peter Lawford's beach house. There was also another blonde "friend" of Lawford's snapped by the pool. The house is still there. Glamourous days.
My father-in-law was the agent at :37 on the left of JFK. Pat Steele. He told us many fun stories about his time with JFK 😉 The agents were not pleased with him that day 😂
That goes to show that jfk confidence in public
Payleigh Steele it was your father in laws agents who were drunk and hung over on duty who allowed assassination to happen. Bill Greer one of your father in law associates slowed the car down enough and enabled the final head shot. In any other country your father in law and those agents should be arrested for treason. They were so buddy buddy with him they contributed to his death. Shameful
omg fr? too cool! would love to hear a few!!
My goodness! Wonderful! It will never happen again. Now I understand why he was assasinated. He could take people away. He was able to change the whole corrupted system, able to cause a revolution... That's he was eliminated.... People loved him.. .
The people who killed him, hate on him, they are all scared little people. It show just how far jealousy and hate can go. He had his faults and they like to point those out which is just excuses. But he was special and he’ll always be special to the world. It’s hard now as it ever was to lose someone who cared for all. His speeches are breathtakingly beautiful because you feel he is speaking directly to you, and he was. I rest better knowing that the less than zero human beings that took him from us will face judgment for eternity.
I believe that was only one person who actually killed him.
I imagine what it would have been as like seeing him in person. RFK also.
There was a lovely story when RFK was on the campaign trail in 1968 & he & his crew went into a diner, one of his men told a waitress to stand back & RFK so "No no, she is one of my voters". I bet that waitress could not stop smiling & remembered that day as long as she lived. That is why he was given such a lovely send off. People lining the streets & rail tracks. RIP RFK.
JFK was the very last dynamic, charismatic, young , hopeful President this United States 🇺🇸 ever had ! He had Courage, leadership & America at its finest moment in time ! Thank God we had JFK
Thank you for posting...remember well his willingness to be human and near the people....saw him at church a lot in Hyannis.
Makes you wonder why oh why. We miss you Jack
God plz bless Jfk Eternally...Amen
This Guy will Never die !!!!
Almost SIX decades later , he still kills it on Social Media.
In terms of charisma, he is untouchable.
And I wasn’t even born til ‘66
So effortlessly cool…
August 19,1962 was a Sunday.
I can imagine my parents, my brothers Anthony, Raymond and I, enjoying a hot Summer's day in San Fernando, California.
My mom was pregnant with my sister Leticia who would be born on November 2,1962.
My parents admired the Kennedys and my late mom Rosa voted for Senator John F. Kennedy in the 1960 Presidential Election.
My mom adored the First Lady Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy!
Not very far from our home, unbeknownst to us, our Beloved President Kennedy was enjoying the day at his sister Pat Lawford and Peter Lawford's beach home.
I would turn 5 years old that Summer of '62 on August 28th and begin Kindergarten at San Fernando Elementary School.
That's a wonderful piece of film 🎥. Never seen it before.
JFK loved the sea. He seems so at home there
He was the greatest. RFK was right up their with him. And I really really like his dad Joe. He was a great man to me.
He was a Nazi sympathizer
It's been a while and yet I look at these images and it is immediately born: yes, you are still and forever our President ... hello John
For a man with a bad back he seemed to move around pretty well.
My Moniker That is what Marilyn Monroe said...for reals.
No back brace that day.
He used a brace, but also did a lot of swimming in the White House pool (sometimes sans clothes!) to help the pain from his war injury when thrown off his boat from the impact of the large destroyer that rammed it. He also experimented with drugs to also help alleviate the pain. Anyone with that longtime pain would have tried anything to stop or lessen the pain from an injury or disease. Can't blame him, although many conservatives use that as a way to denigrate him. Too bad they aren't peacemakers, although the last president (#45) was the best one in that regard (hated wasteful war) than any since #35.
@@johnnypastrana6727 Didn't she sadly pass away a week before this?
@@foreverred105 On the Saturday, Aug. 4 (at only 36), two weeks and a day before this swim day at Santa Monica.
He was the peoples president! 💜
Marilyn Monroe funeral was 13 days earlier. To be a fly on the wall and listen to the conversation August 19th, 1962 between JFK and Peter Lawford!
We will never see the likes of him again ❤
What a man...
HelmerReenberg, This is a wonderful and very touching upload of our late beloved President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The music is very powerful. I become overwhelmed with emotion every time I view it. I was in first grade and in school when we received the shocking and unbelievable news that President Kennedy had been killed. I was attending San Fernando Elementary School, in San Fernando, CA., when President Kennedy was assassinated. We all went out to the school playground and our flag was lowered to half mast. Some of our teachers were crying. I will never forget our school music teacher, who played the autoharp and would sing songs with us, looking up to the sky with tears streaming down her face. Our school Principal announced that our President John F. Kennedy was killed today in Dallas, Texas and that school was in recess until Monday of next week. Here's a quote by President Kennedy I'd like to share with you. PRESIDENT JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY ~ "President Harry Truman once said 'There are fourteen or fifteen million Americans who have the resources to have representatives in Washington to protect their interests. And that the interests of the other people, the one hundred fifty or sixty million, is the responsibility of the President of The United States' and I propose to fulfill it." Raul Macias.
Well said Raul, thank you for your story on that tragic day in November'63..good day to you and your family..🇺🇸👍
The quote through Kennedy from Truman,,priceless..thank you again👌
raul macias, Hi again and thank you for your comment. That said, I was in 6th grade when our beloved President was assassinated, which makes me 5 years older than you!!
Thank you Raul! The best part of that quote was that it was not just a campaign promise.
Mr. Reenberg,
Our music teacher was named Mrs. Bankston.
I was fortunate to re-establish contact with my boyhood friend Alfred Calzadillas who remembers her name!
Mrs. Bankston was very much Beloved by us school children.
Unfortunately we will never see his likes again 😢 sad.RIP. Jack.
At 0:52 a brunette, with her hair pinned up, rushes up to greet President Kennedy. At precisely this moment a Life magazine photographer snapped a picture of this joyous moment and it was published in one of Life's issues!
Beautiful piece of music... very poignant. The tears are there.

Quote by JACQUELINE LEE BOUVIER KENNEDY ~ "Now, I think I should have known that he was magic all along.
I did know it ~ but I should have guessed that it would be too much to ask to grow old with and see our children grow up together."
Quote by ATTORNEY GENERAL ROBERT FRANCIS KENNEDY ~
"WHEN I think of President Kennedy I think of what Shakespeare said in Romeo and Juliet:
When he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun."
Former First Lady Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy suggested, to her brother in law, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, that he read this wonderful passage from Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet as a tribute to his fallen brother.
Navy man of WW2. 🚢

Thank you so much!
president Kennedy was very handsome and good looking Jackie Kennedy was lucky to have him for her husband I wish I was born when he got to be president
Carla Moss You do realize that they both cheated on one another?
Johnny Pastrana never heard Jackie cheated on him. Many believe he cheated on her with MM.
Johnny Pastrana, Stop spreading vicious lies. My father in law was a Kennedy cousin. He and my mother in law were especially close to Robert and Ethel. FACT: Jacqueline Kennedy DID NOT CHEAT ON JFK during their marriage. Jackie loved him immensely, and was totally devastated when he was assassinated. So devastated that she thought of ending her own life at one point. That poor woman suffered enough in her lifetime. Have the basic respect, and let her now Rest In Peace…
@@Kayte-tv2cw I only know about Jackie from videos and audios I've been graced with. I've never doubted her love for him, never heard any rumors of affairs by her. What sealed the deal on my beliefs of her love was an audio I heard where jfk was trying to get her to go to camp David during the missile crisis and she told him no, that her and the kids wanted to be with him in life or in death, they just wanted to be by his side. Anyone with an iota of knowledge knows of the great love she had for him. I was 8 when he was assassinated. I cried and prayed he would live. I don't remember anything else about that day. We had a satirical album some comedians had put out about them. It truly was Camelot. She was so admired as our first Lady not just for her style and grace but her intelligence and eloquence. I've never seen a woman with more grace than her. They were both a national treasure. Thank you for your comment.
Quote by PRESIDENT JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY ~
"Let both sides [the United States and the Soviet Union] join in creating a new endeavor. Not a new balance of power but a new world of law where the strong are just, and the weak secure and the peace preserved."
When we had a President not a lier when we had President not a divider when he had a PRESIDENT
i was smiling throughout the entire video. Its so cool that he did this, so down to earth. Just have 1 question, what happened to his shirt after he threw it on the ground?
Nurul Azman i would have had grab it if i were there.
It’s amazing that he could swim at all with his back the way it was.
Swimming is good for a bad back
Much the way it was good for FDR paralysis. Therapeutic.
We're about to find out how truly "special" he really was.
If you've ever heard the saying "he's comfortable in his own skin" and wondered what it meant, this video and that man is the best example of that saying. Jackie once said that JFK was the most immodest person she'd ever met. Would he be admired for those qualities today? Ask the feminists.
The women loved him
Quote by NORMAN MAILER ~ "Superman Comes To The Supermarket."
I was thinking about how dangerous that was- not from a security aspect, but the way he dove into the ocean- didn’t he have almost debilitating back issues?
Just like a common man. Thats why we remember him.
American treasure
So cool!
Awesome!! Didn't know JFK swam at Santa Monica beach!!
A couple weeks after Marilyn Monroe died.
I imagine how many pills of painkillers that he took that day. He suffered back problems during his lifetime. It was his back brace that make him can't fall easily when the first shot hit his throat.
When he walked, he's just a normal guy. Except that he had one leg shorter than the other.
Nice to sea. Here looked like he enjoyed himself. 😇🙏

@@vazz22 THIS, THIS, THIS!! HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT SEE THIS!
In most all the pictures you just see the book depository, never hardly see the police station, right there and never see the Federal Court building!! Yes, that building held the SS, CIA FBI! If they cared at all they would have been watching the parade of our President. Reading many of the SS and FBI, they seemed like they couldn't be bothered. Hosty goes in for a cheese sandwich, as he is passing by moments before the shooting! Such a shame and damned evil, not to have secured that area! Why would they not let people watch from the park or the Grassley knoll?? Many have said how they were chased from there, yet the streets like Main St. were packed deep! They had planned this trip a year before and everyone knew of course he would come down Main Street and pass the beautiful Old Red historic courthouse. They could not even be bothered to secured the area, for most of them in big oil hated him! Along with all those who were Jim Crow supporters, they didn't want that to change either!
It all went down right under their noses, and they were happy to finally have LBJ! I feel like they were watching with binocs! And slapping each other on the backs. How could they within hours say the Lone Gunman, copied from the Lone Ranger?? And their unbelievable "Magic Bullet", ridiculous, Ford saying we have to make this Magic Bullet believable!! but it worked.
@@shernitadee the only reason there were people lined up on Elm street was because Oswald's boss let all employees off work to watch the parade....they all swarmed out of the building.....hit teams entered the building. The Plaza would have been swarmed with people. Every time new footage of JFK surfaces, I'm amazed at how many risks he took. This is just another one, and I'm beginning to think that the miracle is that he did make it until 11.22.63.
My family was there in 1962 on this beach unaware that the president was lounging by Peter Lawford's pool reading and surrounded by secret service. I believe this was taken after we saw a day or so before.
Couldn't imagine a president doing something like this today. It actually shocked me when I firs t saw this and how accessible/exposed the president was.
