Good day I am wondering if you can assist me. I have a male cichlid citron and he is very aggressive he has almost wiped out all my other cichlids I wonder if you could advise me on what type cichlid would be compatible with him?
A few things. In arranging (or rearranging) rocks and other decorations, disrupt the line of sight from one area (end of tank) to the other. Use flower pots with the open mouths facing the two rear corners of the tank. Use more rock caves in the middle of the tank. Always use females at a 3 to 1 ratio with each male to disperse his attention. Overfeeding reduces active aggression. And needless to say your tank has to be big enough to accomplish this. I have found that isolating an aggressive fish to rehabilitate him is an old wive's tale you can still find repeated in the literature, though isolating a harassed fish can rebuild their health and add size.
Nice video with the advise that can help!!!About me and my Malawi cichlid tank I bought my first fish in a young age and they formed day by day, week after week a school and when they got bigger I added some more at the same size or little bigger and then I got a real school, they swim together, they eat together and the more they do is just chase each other time to time with no harm done!!!I overstock,I feed the right food in small amounts as possible I turn the lights on only 4 hours from 7 pm to 11 and I think that all this routine makes them act well and they are happy, active and they respect each other!!
Love the content and back round music! I just upgraded to a 140 gallon tank for my 14" Fire eel. I have around 30 mixed Mbunas and plan to add around 30 more.
Also. I've used 2" and 3" plumbing fittings. Like street t's and y's. Just pile them up and that helps with aggressive behavior. Adds a ton of hiding spots.
Changing the landscape @ night just a little & adding the fish can help. Put your alpha in a time out box. I envy your opportunities to enjoy the hobby on a much larger level. What you've probably already found out is that customers with endless questions & no intent on buying along with hundreds of gallons & tanks to clean can suck the joy out of some of your love for the tropical industry. It always helped for me to keep a large personal tank in the store that could be appreciated by all but not any of them would be for sale. Save the joy & excitement for yourself everyday with that tank & it will help the years stay filled with love for these fish. Be blessed.
Hi. I'm a new sub. I've had a 75gal mbuna, lake malawi cichlid tank and I'm usually dealing with aggression. I love your idea. And I will try out the ones I haven't tried. Thank you so much for the great video and i look towards watching more

Great as always. I'm currently setting up a Mbuna tank, I've been getting groups of six, once a month, on my second of three sets. Each time I'm re-setting the rock scape and that seems to be working. Then I'll be setting up my Peacock/hap tank the same way.

@@QuebecCichlides Don't laugh! I actually pulled my big bully out of the display tank and sent to the quarantine prison. He was not happy to say the least. The dynamics of the display tank changed completely while he was gone. The fish were allowed to swim anywhere they wanted. They looked so happy swimming freely. After 2 weeks of solitary confinement, I put the bully back in the display tank. At first he looked a little lost and his tank mates didn't pay much attention to him. All was good for a while until he started re-establishing his dominance. However, it is much better than it was before.

Greetings, I have a question. Im not really new to fish keeping as ive had fish my whole life but im new to african cichlids as I have only had a dolphin for about 4 months a 2nd dolphin for about 2 months both in the same tank . One is about 3.5 inches and the ohter about 2.5 . I have 1 sunshine peacock about 1.5 inches in a separate tank and im getting 2 juvenile dragon bloods and 2 tangerine tigers in the mail tomorrow. My goal is to have them all together so I can start a reef tank . My question is is the 3.5 and 2.5 inch dolphins already to big to add the 1.5 -1.75 inch peacocks . Should I just keep the peacocks separate in the other tank or is it safe to add all 5 of the smaller ones now before they get bigger so they can be " friends" im aware to watch for signs of bullying and agression i just want to make sure they are big enough that the dolphins wont eat them
I have peacocks Mbundu and three lake Tanganyika all in one tank. I got them all from a pet store were they all came from the same tank. I must have luck out no aggression problems. But I should’ve watched some videos before I purchased any fish my mistake I counted on the pet store to give me some advice.
My cellphone said "pling" one a clock in the middle of the night here in sweden now ,i woke up and see YYEEAAAH,a new clip from the gorgeous woman, feelt to sleep with happy thoughts to save it for breakfast😊,u should do a video about ur day to like this is my shop, from morning to night, sending some love and hugs through all the cables to u😂,keep going💪
Thank you for your beautiful comment. I already made such a video. It was pretty popular and am considering making another in the future. Here it is : ua-cam.com/video/OZhm8Nhvx0M/v-deo.html P.s. Many cell phones have a "do not disturb" mode, where everything stops except for communications from your "favourite" contact. Not that I'm not enchanted by your story... but nothing compares to a good night's sleep ;)
I have kept mixed Mbuna and peacock tanks for a while in different tanks over the years yes it can be done but sometimes you need to use every trick in the book to manage the aggression apart from adding Valium so would I do it again yea, would I recommend it to a beginner hell no. The other thing to watch is the Aquarium temps if there is to much general aggression and you have room in your temperature range to do so try lowering the temperature a touch. Also with the pH I add Calcium Carbonate (Limestone) to one of the external filters just start in small amounts and monitor the pH mine sits stable at a pH of 7.4 with about 7 pieces of around 3 inches in a 450 Litre tank and hardly moves with water changes but as I said start in small amounts and monitor the pH as your starting pH and Limestone Nutralising values will be different than mine (and yes that’s Nutralising with an S and Litres 😂😂)
An interesting thing you mentioned about how a dominant fish will share his cave in time of danger had me wondering how a dead fish found his way into the bullies cave. I've always wondered how a dying fish managed to wedge himself under a rock before dying. I recently found out how. His tank mates, namely the big bully, will wedge him into his cave. My last dead fish was so deeply wedged under a rock that I could not pull him out without removing the rocks. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
I have just 2 Siamese algee eaters in my tank ,one is bullying the other doesn’t let it eat and so it hides and sometimes is shaking , the bully fish is growing while the other is staying the same I am waiting on some plants to be delivered ,also have few plants in there . So now I placed a divider between them ,at the first the bully wasn’t happy was jumping swimming like crazy but now after couple of days it settled while the other one is more relaxed and got it’s colour back and eating . I am worried about adding more fish just in case it will bully them .
I had the same problem so they had beaten up a couple of my cichlids one really bad I put both of them in hospital tanks to heal up for about five weeks. Bought a 20 gallon tank took the two aggressive cichlids out move them to their new home rearranged the main tank a little bit not a whole lot put the fish that were in the hospital tank that were beaten up back in the main tank and the aggression has calm down quite a bit. It’s been a lot of trial and error some fish have died because of mistakes I’ve made a couple from being just stressed out being picked on. Anybody that thinks keeping fish is easy It’s not
QuebecCichlides I have learned To observe and look for certain things every day to try and get on top of the situation before it gets out of hand like my first bout of Ich Before I realized what it was it Wiped half the tank out. Not to mention taking the tank completely apart cleaning it Replacing the saying things like that. Then the second stupid thing I did was buying a used sump A nice one that came with a filter sock I should’ve threw the filter sock away even though I washed it it poisoned and killed three beautiful fish I mean within less than two hours turned almost pale white dead.so yeah it’s been a learning experience but I’m also proud that I saved quite a few of them. I feel These mistakes have helped me to learn what to look for what to do and what not to do
The best idea is to get them all when they are 1" or smaller and grow them out together. Always get more than u need it is small so it is much cheaper anyway. Once they reach 4"-5" start thinning your stock and keep the best one u like. I do this all the time and save a lot of money this way or even make my money back selling those fish. This will guarantee a peaceful aquarium but please don't sell your 1st 2nd or 3rd tank boss even if they don't look beautiful.
I have mbunas haps and Victorian cichilds recently had to rehome my Labino Mbuna he was being so mean and nasry towards the others i tryed seperation ect didnt work so rehoming him was my only option.
I have a male and a female Kribensis, when breeding they are monsters! I have to remove everything that moves in there tank or they will bully them to death! What can I do? Can I separate them and just keep males together? What can I put with a male Kribensis as a show piece fish? Angle fish?
I stick my Big old hand in the tank and chase around the Bully .. then help out the bullied. I use my Giant Hand to Bully the bully, giving the bully some medicine .I never touch them just Move towards them and chase them away it sort of the same behavior the bully is doing minus contact.
Sadly, I had to Remove the bully from my Tank a couple days after this comment, I took the Bully fish back to the Tropical fish store. A Green Terror adolescent was the Bully in this case , bullying 3 blood parrots , the store traded me The Terror for another Smaller Blood parrot now I have four Derpy happy blood parrot fish. They pick on each other and play like cats and do not seem as scared now. This is the first time I've kept Blood parrots, They are super fun fish to watch.

I do everything you talked about. Other than I do keep convict cichlids with my Africans. They do very well but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. Mine are use to hight ph 8.5 from tinny little wigglers. I haven't had any aggressive activities since I removed all the females. You should take a look some time it's a pretty chilled out tank.
may i ask, why is 1 of my jellybean chasing one jellybean cichlid and my 2 blue pollar parrot chasing each other and chasing 2 of my jellybean parrot, pls help, idk who is male or female :at all :/
Here's why I'm infuriated at the fish industry. I can buy a pair of cichlids from my local fish store but it turns out the male is harassing the female so I realize I need more females to dissipate the aggression. Alas "these fish are not easy to find!" the local fish store informs me, so I'm off to search on the internet but, if I'm lucky, the only option is to buy a bunch of unsexed adolescents and "hurry up! The stock is low!". Will they grow up to be all males? Who knows! And why some of them are deformed? Because they were inbred.
It sounds like you're unlucky with the fish stores surrounding you :( Before buying anything, you're going to have to do a lot of research to make sure you're not getting swindled. If you're from Canada, you can order directly from our website, we have many african cichlids. quebec-cichlides.com/

Legitimate question. The difference between cichlides and cichlid (or cichlids)???
In english it's cichlid/cichlids in french it's cichlidé/cichlidés. My store name is in french but i can't use accents when creating an account. That's why it's written cichlides everywhere :P

I thought so, but just verifying. Cool channel! 👍🏻
Convict females are crazy lol. I'll check your tank out once I get a moment.
may i ask, why is 1 of my jellybean chasing one jellybean cichlid and my 2 blue pollar parrot chasing each other and chasing 2 of my jellybean parrot, pls help, idk who is male or female :at all :/

Thanks for the very educational video. And my wife thinks the only reason I watch your videos is because of how attractive you are.
