One important thing to note here since they have to abide by TWT rules: AK can't give JDCR free damage let alone give him the round since the TOs intervened and enforced the TWT rule that they will restart the round where the anomaly occured. AK and JDCR have to play the final round over again. AK can't throw the round because that's tampering and maybe even matchfixing. He would be disqualified not only from this tournament but possibly from the entire TWT.

@randomvideoboy1 One can also say that it was deliberate so as to demolish AK’s reputation. As suspicious it might be but we can only leave it to speculation, unless a solid evidence of cheating is provided. To think that after the game, JDCR even consoled AK that it’s just ok. Sh*t like this happens, and it’s no one else’s fault except for that idiot who did it.
Regardless of how good and nuanced the rules might become there will always be room for error. I just hope that something like a controller connection check before matches for all controllers - bluetooth and wired, is implemented after this.
Before even watching the vid I knew exactly what this was about ☹️ Shitty situation all around but what made it worse was “fans” who weren’t endemic to the community being completely asshats with their reactions.
Phi covers it in the video. It was a controller issue that interrupted a match at the worst time in the final round during an EWC bracket in Dreamhack Dallas.
Just force everybody to play wired and turn off the bluetooth. As simple as that. Usb cable costs 5 bucks or the TOs could have them for those who forgot. It worked at my small local where the average rank was reds/purples so it can work everywhere else.
Or just disconnect every controller before the next match? Some ppl don't wanna play with a wire, so just manually disconnect every controller everytime. This should be mandatory practice every damn time.
@@riceyboi7069 So adjust for bluetooth users but not for hard connect players? We have seen the hassle bluetooth brings, time for hard connections now.
The truth is the person in the crowd who hit the home button knew what they were doing. Because they tried to do it at 14:29 also but were not successful. 2 times both match point in JDCR favor and mid kill combo. They purposely waited till the final round final match final combo to 100% was going to kill to hit the home button. The correct thing was to give the win over to JDCR because that combo was 100% going to kill AK.
as phi said, this is not a last hit situation. had ak been mid air with 5% health in the middle of jdcr finishing his combo right when the game got interrupted, then yes, jdcr would have 100% won no contest. but in this scenario, theres still 30 seconds on the clock, which for tekken is an eternity, oki scenario, ak has a ton of grey health, and also has enough health to survive a poke or 2. these kinds of comebacks are not at all rare, even in tournaments. ak COULD have made a comeback and won or jdcr COULD have finished him off. this uncertainty is why jdcr wasnt just given the win.
@@misellus3931i honestly thought jdcr could have killed. He didn’t get to finish his unscaled hit towards the end but momentum is everything so you can’t replay momentum

The Organizers should've paused the Set to turn off Bluetooth after the game in which the Notification popped up. Why would they just sit there and allow that to happen despite that Notification warning that the game could be interfered with?! I'm happy that the Organizers have assumed the blame, as they should. I don't get that rule. lose a round when you pause/interfere? Perfect rule makes all the sense. Completely restart the round when a third party pauses? makes no sense. It favors the player who was losing the round every single time. when the game is paused by a third party why not just resolve the issue, then unpause with both players holding back for 3 in game seconds? This is way less disruptive and less time consuming. Obviously still not perfect but at least it has less impact in time, mentality, and game-state.

Hard agree, they should've resume the match right there after the pause. Sure JDCR lost his final oki mixup, but its way better still than to replay whole round with full health.
These two are my favorite players and it's really sad that their bout had to end this way. This is not the first time something like this happened on a major tournament and it baffles me how there are still no precautionary process being followed to avoid these scenarios.

Hopefully things like macro controllers, monitor "malfunctions", and other things don't come about as well.

I'm just curious, would this even be possible if they played on PC without bluetooth? I get that it can be hard to get enough PCs for a massive tournament, but at least for on-stream matches surely it could be possible? Big props to JDCR for his reaction to it though.
PCs for on stream matches only would also be bad competitively because the input delay is different from PS5, they really just need to do their jobs a little better and turn Bluetooth off
@@Eanakba Input delay is zero on PC, I would be in favour of a system that actually behaves closer to 'true'. It's only bad competitively if there's discrepancy between tournament systems. Does it have to be that way? I don't think so.
You can turn off the bluetooth on ps5 as well. Problem is it was not done here and it's not default cuz some idiots would rather bother setting up the bluetooth rather than plugging in a cable and even having a smaller input lag as a bonus

There should be a feature in the replay mode that would let them both continue the set right where the foul happened. Replay control is already a thing so it shouldnt be too hard to do, and it seems a lot more fair than a complete redo
Woah that makes sense. Why have this replay feature if you cant reset it. Even being able to restart at 'round start' with the health modified, the Devs could do a lot to help elliviate this
@randomvideoboy1stop complying that ak was cheater he did well it’s not his fault that this happened plus happened every tournament this not t7 where people mad at super akouma gameplay
Overall i think the resolution was a bit lacking, for JDCR. He got nothing in the end, the travels cost for other tournaments most likely would have been paid by his organization. Also, the need to redo this rule, as now this went from a best of 3 games, to a death match .They at least should give the option to the 'winning" side to chose if goes to the last round or redo the last game. But in the end is not an appalling resolution.

Man this whole thing reminds me of Evo 2015 momochi vs Gamerbee, the literally last set of the tournament was stalled for a good 8 minutes due to an error , which completely killed the momentum that Gamerbee had going for.
Similar to mma where the ref puts the fighters in the same exact position after calling timeout due to accidents, tekken devs should enhance and further utilize the replay feature that puts the players in a specific state and position based on a specific point in the match in case something like this happens, especially in big tournaments.
Not 10 minutes into the video, and I learned that counter hits have a specific particle effect, and that heat burst does less chip while opponent is in rage... you's a good Tekken-Tuber, Phi!
Man. The moment I saw that happen my heart just sunk a bit. I had a pause button being hit happen before in a match, and it didn't feel good. It's super disruptive, and it hurts even more when you're in a big event right there on the big stage. This wasn't any of the player's fault though, so that makes it even worse. I hope there's at least no bad blood between the two because yeah, I wouldn't hold a grudge over something like that. Being robbed of a honorable match, whether you win or lose, never EVER feels good. All that being said, though, people sending death threats and threatening violence are out of line. Stuff happens, as long as we can move past it and compensate the players, that should be enough. Yeah, it sucks in the end, but what can you do, really. Not like hurting someone will magically reverse things or give your favorite a trophy. People should keep that in mind. As long as there's compensation, as long as the organizers own up to it and pay up, that's it. That should be enough.

@randomvideoboy1 oh yeah definitely. I wasn’t even going to mention that, but that definitely plays a factor too. Another good reason to just continue the match as well.
I'm not a decent Tekken player but if I'm right, at 23:24, JDCR could've extended the Hail Slicer string to reach the wall and kill Shaheen. The sad part is though, even if he inputted the follow up, the PS Home button was pressed a few milliseconds before the input was registered. Even as an AK fan, it really sucked it happened because if the PS Home button was pressed just a few more milliseconds, JDCR would have probably been able to kill and close the set. Things like this make me wish we make everything wired and turn off the bluetooth settings. This should be a lesson for TOs in future tournaments.
To add, even if the TOs are at fault, death threats and insults are not the way to give them a lesson. TOs already are working their butts off just to make players have a good, if not, decent time. If anything, be grateful that there are TOs that try to know their stuff and learn rather than TOs who don't even know crap and even mess up things. (Rev Major 2023)
When I was spectating at the event, the organizers took an incredible amount of time to enforce the rule of restarting the round/game like other tournaments. There was a lot of talking between staff yet at the end it took away someone's chance at a win. JDCR def wasn't super happy when this happened.
Small addendum/correction to 19:00 Fcdf1 from Drag isn't actually a high crush despite the animation for some reason, as soon as you input it from crouch he counts as standing
dang JDCR was just 1 more 50/50 oki away from winning of course AK could've gotten the right read and make a comeback but that would be super tough especially against JDCR either way sucks that this situation happened regardless
I was so unbelievably bummed out about this whole situation for JDCR. I am certain that in that situation JDCR had the win before the controller prompt happened, the next hit in the string would have taken AK to the wall. I had little interest in watching the rest of the tournament after that incident as it felt so unfair for JDCR to have his victory (in my opinion) snatched from him. I've been a JDCR fan going on 8 years now and am deeply saddened for him by this situation.
If you watch the full video, jdcr 1st win Last round An outsider attempts to connect to the controller and a failure message appears. Is this a coincidence?
My heart broke for JDCR when I saw this, but he played it out with pure class and respect. As someone who's relatively new to the TEKKEN community he's gained a fan in me ♥
With a health lead like that, there should definitely be some consideration for that. Why start at full health? Non of this made any sense. Total sabotage
This really frustrated me a lot since I am waiting a long time for JDCR to be at the very top again and this tournament seemed so promising for him up until that point. It must surely have affected his mental for the remaining matches. Never seen have it be this dramatic, to have the match be interrupted in the last seconds of the match. JDCR was robbed in broad daylight. Very reminiscent of the online pluggers who quit exactly in the final combo that would kill them. I hope JDCR stays strong and manages to qualify for the big main event🙏
I wonder what "Helping JDCR travel to next qualifiers" mean. Will he pay out of his own pocket or something? or just cheer him up saying "GoGoGo! JDCR!"
@randomvideoboy1 Don't know. It's definitely possible but kinda irrelevant in the situation. If someone did sabotage it, shame on them but the situation is the same. If someone didn't then the situation is the same. It sucks no matter what and the mistake was a hard lesson learned by the organizers and the community to make sure that this option is turned off for the tournament equipment they are using. We can't know if anyone did it on purpose unless someone comes out and says something about it specifically, so I think it's better to focus on the solutions instead of the speculation that we cannot get answers to.
This was very upsetting, like I don't like Dragunov but JDCR but his heart playing into this character and to see him have that happened to him is the worst. For sure that when Top 8 comes people in chat are gonna be really toxic and I cannot watch that happen.
Respectable that the TO actually owned up to the mistake and also extending an offer to help JDCR travel as an apology is a very nice gesture. But man it hurt to watch the very final round end like that.
Way back then like when I was at Kumite and at esports Arlington in 2019 & 2020, it was common that before every match, the player would check the Bluetooth devices section in the system and disconnect them all. I'm not saying it's TOs or players fault but Its important we do this before every match to ensure this doesn't happen again
This incident between JDCR and AK was not the first occurrence of the event. The team should have reviewed the task list for desyncing controllers on the stage (this is usually a standard operations procedure for stage management at these types of larger events). However, this also means that the standard of excellence wasn't met just once, but twice. The first incident was for SF6 for the previous day (between the following players: triumph and shoes), but this is a big deal because top players were impacted. This was not a good showcase by the entire operations team as it showed not only a lack of accountability, but also the lack of urgency to provide the best tournament experience. If this was a single occurrence for this event, it can be forgiven. But it happened twice. This should have been reported on Friday as a known issue (and it was on stream, so the entire broadcast team was aware of this, if they weren't... this is worse than it looks) shows the incompetence and lack of equality towards unknown players vs known players.
Loving both players, JD vs knee got me into tekken(7) and fightimg games in general and i watch his youtube for years now. i enjoyed watching AK over the year alot, always was clear he is a beast but was missing exp. at the end of the day, as tragic as it may be, the only people you really can fault here are the organizers. how can this even be possible in this day and age? how can u fill a HUGE tournament with people interested in a competetive 1v1 fighting game and not even think abou this possibility? unbelievable!
Yeah this was absolutely brutal, I can’t possibly fathom why they chose to even replay the whole match at all let alone give them the same amount of health.
Think about the ruling this way: If somebody had physically jumped onto the stage and yanked JDCR's OR AK's controller out of their hands, because that's the same end result as the home button incident, the same ruling would have been enforced after security deals with the assailant. Does that still seem fair or feel right? I'm still glad JDCR and AK are fine with everything at least as they've probably dealt with dumber stuff in their careers and grand finals was ridiculous still.

Especially when there's multiple amounts of people sending it to him? JFC you all are insufferable.
Somebody was clearly sabotaging the match in favor of AK. It happened twice, both times as Jdcr was about to win. AK should have thrown the match. He lost there. It was over if some AK fan or AK accomplice hadn't stopped the game.
I know people complain it's not fair, and it isn't but other methods end up with corner cases that aren't fair either. But the rules have to be generalized and can't hit ever corner case. Think about it like this: Favor the higher life total: What if I was down to 10% with Rage & Heat, and my opponent was 70%+ but I had just blocked a hellsweep and successfully did a delayed hopkick before the 3rd party made me drop it? It's not exactly fair that we only count the damage from the hopkick and not the rest of the combo that I most certainly would have hit. Favor the one who's combo dropped: Sure maybe it's easy to see in some situations, but what about guaranteed damage combo enders that have tight timing or even as simple what if I was playing Law and did a slide and my guaranteed 1+2 will kill, but then a 3rd party connection causes an issue. It's easy to say "well it's guaranteed" yeah but Manja, Double, and Skywalker have all accidentally gotten BT1+2 instead of the nunchuck in TWT events. And it's way too subjective to say "well allow it for the easy combos" And obviously favoring the one clearly winning doesn't work when just last week we saw Arslan make a combo against AK from an 80% life difference
I fully agree that losing Flowstate is THE most crucial part of an interrupt like this. But we have the Replay function now why are we still completely redoing rounds?
The match fixing allegations and threats that surround this incident really are terrible, not just because it shows insanely toxic fans are still a thing, but also because it's mostly from people that barged in the FGC from the KCorp ultra fan community that has never been reined in by the org. I'm thoroughly disappointed by the KC organization not putting a single word towards calming things, and the CEO has already said in the past that he's proud of having fans as devoted (and insane) as soccer can get. This is gonna be all that people will remember from this tournament, when there's truly been some great sets and everyone deserved the top spots as much as the others. None of these players need luck or match fixing to be where they are right now, they're all at the top of the game.
One important thing to note here since they have to abide by TWT rules: AK can't give JDCR free damage let alone give him the round since the TOs intervened and enforced the TWT rule that they will restart the round where the anomaly occured.

It worked at my small local where the average rank was reds/purples so it can work everywhere else.
Or just disconnect every controller before the next match? Some ppl don't wanna play with a wire, so just manually disconnect every controller everytime. This should be mandatory practice every damn time.

Yep. Just play wired. No reason to over complicate things.

PCs for on stream matches only would also be bad competitively because the input delay is different from PS5, they really just need to do their jobs a little better and turn Bluetooth off

Similar to mma where the ref puts the fighters in the same exact position after calling timeout due to accidents, tekken devs should enhance and further utilize the replay feature that puts the players in a specific state and position based on a specific point in the match in case something like this happens, especially in big tournaments.

The timing on that is suspect
When I was spectating at the event, the organizers took an incredible amount of time to enforce the rule of restarting the round/game like other tournaments. There was a lot of talking between staff yet at the end it took away someone's chance at a win. JDCR def wasn't super happy when this happened.
@14:34 Is someone trying to connect a controller? “Connect the device using a USB cable, or register it again” appears at the top of the screen.
Small addendum/correction to 19:00
Fcdf1 from Drag isn't actually a high crush despite the animation for some reason, as soon as you input it from crouch he counts as standing
the rule should be to resume match with same health as before
They should implement that feature inside the game
dang JDCR was just 1 more 50/50 oki away from winning of course AK could've gotten the right read and make a comeback but that would be super tough especially against JDCR either way sucks that this situation happened regardless

Don't know.
A clear win for JDCR, what a G
JDCR should get some compensation
Man i love Dragonov's intro where he turns the camera. Like who you lookin at.
Think about the ruling this way:
If somebody had physically jumped onto the stage and yanked JDCR's OR AK's controller out of their hands, because that's the same end result as the home button incident, the same ruling would have been enforced after security deals with the assailant.
Does that still seem fair or feel right?
I'm still glad JDCR and AK are fine with everything at least as they've probably dealt with dumber stuff in their careers and grand finals was ridiculous still.

@randomvideoboy1 It may sound suspicious but it does not justify DEATH THREATS you stupid kid. Still it all falls under suspicion and only a suspicion, nothing was confirmed. No one is guilty, not even AK. And wdym just don't look at it? Are u reading what you're commenting here? You think it's that easy to ignore death threats? Especially when there's multiple amounts of people sending it to him? JFC you all are insufferable.
Somebody was clearly sabotaging the match in favor of AK. It happened twice, both times as Jdcr was about to win. AK should have thrown the match. He lost there. It was over if some AK fan or AK accomplice hadn't stopped the game.
@@kato093 lol cause by AK fans. Source : trust me bro 💀. He is not allowed to give free win to JDCR. Go read the tournament rules
Why is the bluetooth even on at tournaments? Or is it impossible to deactivate on Playstation?
My heart goes out for JDCR ❤️ ✨ He is Tekken legend and he's a very nice guy! I was rooting for him so bad 🙏🏻
I know people complain it's not fair, and it isn't but other methods end up with corner cases that aren't fair either. But the rules have to be generalized and can't hit ever corner case.
Think about it like this:
Favor the higher life total:
What if I was down to 10% with Rage & Heat, and my opponent was 70%+ but I had just blocked a hellsweep and successfully did a delayed hopkick before the 3rd party made me drop it? It's not exactly fair that we only count the damage from the hopkick and not the rest of the combo that I most certainly would have hit.
Favor the one who's combo dropped:
Sure maybe it's easy to see in some situations, but what about guaranteed damage combo enders that have tight timing or even as simple what if I was playing Law and did a slide and my guaranteed 1+2 will kill, but then a 3rd party connection causes an issue. It's easy to say "well it's guaranteed" yeah but Manja, Double, and Skywalker have all accidentally gotten BT1+2 instead of the nunchuck in TWT events.
And it's way too subjective to say "well allow it for the easy combos"
And obviously favoring the one clearly winning doesn't work when just last week we saw Arslan make a combo against AK from an 80% life difference
It s a bummer but life happens and these types of things will happen from time to time
That’s so wild. JDCR is so humble. I’m glad it only sent him to losers instead of knocking him out of the tournament completely though
Well he did
Jdcr got robbed, period.
nah
Sometimes you get unlucky, and thats what happened here.
Robbed of what? He was given a chance to redo and he didn't.
@@Triforcebro He lost momentum, especially after that unfair L , AK is a cheater for real. He also had something going at COMBO BREAKER
@@thokucheetah cheater my ass, you're just a salty mfker
I fully agree that losing Flowstate is THE most crucial part of an interrupt like this. But we have the Replay function now why are we still completely redoing rounds?
A Playstation button was hit on a 3rd controller
