    Love my R170, half the village have been to ask if the "beautiful silver car" is really mine. It wasn't perfect when I got it but I was able to change both front wings and the front bumper for under £300 so there is now zero rust, everything else works perfectly and it's great fun to drive. Richard Hammond is right about the clutch though, takes a bit of getting used to!

    I have the SLK 320, 3.2 V6 218 hp and 310nm.
    Drives very smooth, im addicted.
    Before i owned a 230 kompressor, but the 320 is much better.

      R bofkont Bofkont indeed ;-)
      I have a SLK230K, and that is a far cry from bad, so I do feel I'm lucky already, but I can imagine the 320 V6 is even better !

    My 320 is all the power I could possibly need. More the thickness of the panels, unlike other cars is built to last.

      Jane, you have an appreciating asset there. The first of it's kind to have that brilliantly engineered hard top convertible roof and it has well and truly grown into a beautiful car these days. I could go on, but the point is, it won't lose value, as long as you maintain it well this car is gaining value all the time.
      Amazing really, because at launch it kind of got crucified by the motoring press. But now... it's a bona fide modern classic.

    My dad just got one of these and I was able to drive it for a short time yesterday. The steering was very vague...is this common or a sign of a problem? It sort of reminded me of the steering feel of an old Buick. The suspension was a bit jarring and I'm wondering if that is normal or a sign that new shocks and springs are needed? It wasn't bottoming out or anything just not very compliant. The car has over 77k miles so may be due for full suspension upgrade. I was a bit disappointed by the power. Is there a simple off the shelf tune that adds a bit more grunt? Style it has got and it is a very cool little roadster. It may be built for more show than go but it could be really fun with a bit more power.

    Does anyone know what the actual fuel consumption is like?on the 200 or 230 model?

    • @canebavoso7267
      @canebavoso7267 5 років тому +2

      Jan Rasing huge . I’ve got the 192hp one and it eats fuel twice as much as my 530d bmw with 320hp

      I have the 200k and I would not recommend this at all for a hyper-miler. I love my car but it’s hardly economical

    I like that MB tried to compete with the Boxster, Z3 and S2000 - but this car steers like a boat in comparison. And power : weight is lackluster in the base 2.0L at 168bhp, compared to say an S2000's 2.0L at 240bhp

    I have the same car 200. the color silver gray metallic, and I love it.
    (I don't want a V6. not anymore, Why not ? I'm just going to drive faster. and I will lose my driver's license. plus a super high fine .
    I have had a V6 but it sold way too fast for me. :)

    The tires and rims in this video don't look like any standard SLK R170 ever sold in the US. These tires look like standard width passenger car tires like you would find on a Geo Prism. - There is nothing high performance about them! The model reviewed has the least amount of Horse Power (160 bhp) compared to later R170 SLK models (197bhp - 349 bhp AMG). I know this is a review of the SLK 200. I wish he had reviewed a later model SLK with better specs. Consider the performance of the the Brabus SLK with this SLK 200. Same car name, same car model (R170 SLK) but a world of difference in the performance department!

      ***** Agreed.. These videos look like first generation Top Gear segments though I don't see Richard Hammond being involved with Top Gear until 2002.

      mercedes sold it as a sports car even though it wasnt very sporty SLK stands for sporty light and short

    • @rscosworthfan
      @rscosworthfan 7 років тому

      very silly comment mercedes marketed it as a sports car ,a sports car doesnt mean used for sport it means keen handling acceleration and an all round sporty feel

    • @rscosworthfan

      the tyres and rims are UK spec thats probably why you aint seen them in the US
