A few days ago, i found napoleons last battles by spi games online for a free download.
Ive beensearching for this game 35 years, and now ihave it, have decided to draw the maps on a larger format, and use 28mm figures to replace the counters.
Its onging work and ive just ( literally) painted the red jackets for the English figures( perry) wargames foundry(ooohh beutifull).
Its almost like my phones been listening, and this vid turned uo, so i had to comment.
35 years in the making man!!!
To lead me to this point.
    Mad innit

That explains why Airfix made their model ~56 yrs ago.
    Thank you for sharing!

Never likely to re fight the whole battle, but the Prussian arrival and the fighting at Plancenoit is the part of the battle that I’m drawn to, Landwehr going toe to toe with elements of the guard. I’ve had a go in 15mm and in 2015 I started on the Prussians ( plenty of French armies in the club) in 28 mm, nearly there just commanders and guns to base. Just need to find some suitable rules that deal well with fighting in built up areas.

Interesting... I usually start with a set of rules and them paint & base my armies accordingly. Maybe a topic for discussion at some point!

Good update as always Lee. As for Waterloo, I tend to see Hougoumont on the tabletop more than La Haye Saint. I've played the entire Allied Versus French portion of the battle, but it was in 6mm and using Blucher as the rules. I've also played some of the smaller skirmish actions using Sharp Practice, and both have very different challenges.
Going back earlier, we used to have a wargaming club at school and we refought the 100 Days campaign over several weeks on school desks! I also fought Waterloo when the British army was wiped out to a man back in 1988. Good times!

I've played bits of the battle, and other parts of the 100 Days campaign, but only with other peoples models and rules.

After a school visit to Waterloo in 1977, the following year, we played a game based on the area from La Haye Sainte to Papelotte in Graham's sitting room, on the floor, over the course of a long weekend during school holidays. We used hundreds of Airfix figures (mostly unpainted) using Graham's version of the Charge! rules. Battalions of 32 to 40 figures did battle over a battlefield with Matchbox Superfast track for roads and Airfix and railway modelling buildings for terrain. Most of the fighting cantered on Wellington's Elm. Simple days back then.

For almost 20 years, I painted and collected 15mm for planned corps-level Waterloo-era game. Never managed to finish the project, or play the game. My personal hobby boulevard of broken dreams. Still have all of the figures though boxed carefully away though.

I’ve been collecting Waterloo-era stuff for at least that long (albeit with a 20-year break in the middle). My vague objective is to refight Quatre Bras - so, roughly one corps per side.
Still nowhere near finished but I play fairly regularly with figures I’ve got that are ‘table-ready’. Keeps the interest up and the mojo flowing! To be honest, I’m not really bothered if I ever get to refight QB.

I have to admit that Waterloo was never the battle I wanted to recreate. I found other campaigns more interesting. But the first engagements between the Young Guard and the arriving Prussian troops would be more interesting to me, even if less famous.
By the way "Absolute Emperor" (Osprey) gives a condensed playable scenario within its rulebook to play the full battle until the arrival of the Prussians.

Great video as usual! Would anyone know of any good books on waterloo, particularly covering the armies and uniforms. I have read David Howarth's A Near Run Thing, which was very good

Interesting presentation, I imagine any scenario would be best with some sort of time clock to indicate when the Farm is captured and then a follow up game for end segment of Waterloo and ws the farmhouse captured intime or will the Prussians arrive earlier/later or on time than the historical record was it delayed enough for Grouchy to come in and ake a difference. So many 'What Ifs' around what was in Wellingtons own words 'A close run thing.'

Picking one bit of this battle is a real poser. The classic part frequently played is the fight for Hougoumont, but I also like the fighting at Plancenoit & Papelotte; oddly, I am yet to play the fighting at La Haye - must do that next. One of my all time favourite periods, due to the colour, splendor & grandeur; not to mention the larger than life personalities.

OK, wargaming Waterloo. I thought you stuck, almost too well, to actual question asked of you. As a fellow 6mm gamer, I know that the real answer to the broader question is simple, #gosmalltogobig,...all of it!
Why taste only the black cherries if you have black forest gateau on the menu!
OK, even at 6mm, this is a big battle...but the Napoleonic gamer has a lot them to work with, and Waterloo is no Leipzig. My next major project arc is going to be Napoleonics in 6mm and I won't be fighting just one location on the lconic battlefields. I intend to take full advantage of the vast scope of the larger scale, do the things that even 10mm and epic are stretched to do.

@@MiniatureAdventuresTV I suspect it'll be a couple of years, probably more in duration and I won't be starting it until next year. I'm still concentrating on the single 'Project 1' that I gave myself on my return to the hobby a couple of years ago...The ACW in 6mm - be able to fight any battle of the conflict using the rules and scenarios of Altar of Freedom. I'm very close to completing the miniatures part of this.
