Extremely rare to show the ending without any fee plugs (not cut out) and the beginning with the words Charlie O'Donnell was describing I had NEVER seen before. The TIC, TAC, DOUGH animation began I believe in 1981 and continued sporadically until Wink's final year in '85. It is still one of my all time favorite game show themes.
During the end credits, you would see all of the X’s and O’s are blocked, because the contestants ended with a tie game, for the next show, it will start off with a new category for a tie game.
I watched this show with my parents and grandmother when I was a kid in the late 70s and early 80s, so this episode would have aired during that time. Always watched the end credits because I liked the music, and I don’t remember ever seeing that animation at the end before
I was thinking they used an Atari 400 computer, BUT they actually used an Apple II computer to make the board and nine SONY Trinitron TVs. One time, an Apple II was offered as part of the prize packages.
i've never seen that closing with that animation..i didn't watch it as it aired in 1981. I started watching a few years later when i was 4 or 5 probably.
Well, what's so weird about it? I think it was extremely, sophisticated, catchy and nice! Sort of wants to make you go back to the innocent hey-day of television game shows! Before the crude Internet and cells phones!
Was 1981 the first season they opened with a wide shot of the set in the dark? I’ve seen this episode and it was very unique indeed! I wish I could find any episodes with Wilbur Hicks other than the tournament of champions from 1983. I think he was on in the fall if ‘82 along with Koki Yowatti.
The opening spiel ("From Hollywood, it's everybody's game of strategy, knowledge, and fun! It's Tic Tac Dough!") wasn't usually spelled out on the game board like that. Normally it was just the colored line screensaver-looking animations.
Me too. I have the board game, and I’m currently working on my project featuring characters from “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” to be part of a tournament.
Wouldn't use weird to describe the open or close-it is more cool to me...The closing theme ran longer than most, so why not make it look interesting? As for the opening, don't remember seeing it before so probably a rarity...Could easily be testing the monitors to see what they were capable of doing...
They did that from the time the show started until the end of the 1981-82 season. They brought it back for the 1,000th episode and again for Wink's finale.
That drum machine made the theme awesome.
What’s weird about it? That theme is kick ass and that hard thumping bass. I always loved the zoom when Wink came out.

The theme seemed rather weird and the Dragon looked more like an Owl however the show was awesome to watch.

I think they just did that tic tac dough animation at the end to mix things up a bit
Crazy Fun...weird theme but fitting for the show
That theme music sounds like a praise break in a black church.
The Family Feud Theme also has that vibe, IMHO.
0:00 is a station ID with the instrumental version of NBC’s “Just Watch Us Now” jingle.
Charlie O'Donnell filled-in as a substitute announcer for Jay Stewart in 1981. I believe.
Soon, Charlie became permanent announcer for ALL Barry and Enright game show until 1986.

That open was BRILLIANT!
I'm gonna guess this is from summer reruns in 1982; the bumper music for KTVE is from NBC's "Just Watch Us Now" campaign, which rolled out in '82.
If I'm not mistaken, it is because they've just re-affiliated with NBC that spring.
LOVE THAT SHOW.
Soooooo what's so weird! This was the best game show them song!!!!!!!!!!!!
Without a bunch of Commodore 64s and Vic 20s . . . this gane could never have happened
I was thinking they used an Atari 400 computer, BUT they actually used an Apple II computer to make the board and nine SONY Trinitron TVs. One time, an Apple II was offered as part of the prize packages.
Was actually done with Apple IIs
@@timfischer yep, 9 of them and all linked to an Altair 8800 that controlled category, X, O, bonus amounts, TIC, TAC, and Dragon movements

I've seen that closing before. But, I've NEVER seen that opening!!

They did have that animation from 1980 2 1982, then again at the last episod with wink but they had the timp roll and dragon roar at the end
Nice opening of the show with the shows famous opening on the Game Board read by the Late and great Charley O'Donnell.
I remember this game show in the 80s I was young
How was it weird?
When did the brown panels on the contestant podiums get replaced?
Not sure what's weird, I watched this show, not seeing the weird side. Looks normal for me.
The opening spiel ("From Hollywood, it's everybody's game of strategy, knowledge, and fun! It's Tic Tac Dough!") wasn't usually spelled out on the game board like that. Normally it was just the colored line screensaver-looking animations.
You got anymore (Tic Tac Dough) from this season and others?
I LOVE TIC TAC DOUGH.
Me too. I have the board game, and I’m currently working on my project featuring characters from “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” to be part of a tournament.

That bit at the very end there, a still shot from that sequence would've worked as a good tel-op slide for the show, or for use in print ads for it.
They did that from the time the show started until the end of the 1981-82 season. They brought it back for the 1,000th episode and again for Wink's finale.
How is it weird?
The opening spiel is on the game board, that’s how!
That was BRILLIANT!
No departing gifts plug?

what was weird
Johnny Gilbert DID sub-announce TTD when it began in syndication in 1978, and again in 1984.
It wouldn't call the opening "weird", but "unusual". It was nice to see that, but still I call it "unusual"
Art James also briefly announced
Jeopardy! 1992
Why partial?
