Retro Sports Games that STILL Hold Up in 2024

- You know, for as long as I can remember, sports games have been some of my favorite video games to play growing up. And that holds true today - I love things like MLB the Show, NHL, and the NBA 2K series - but I can't shake the feeling that a lot of retro sports games hold up just as well (if not BETTER) than their modern counterparts.
So here's 10 (HAH! I miscounted - there's actually 11) I think hold up, that are still a blast to play today. Which are your favorites? Let me know.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Sega Dreamcast. Never played this but played Tony Hawk games on other systems. It's good.
Baseball Simulator 1.000 Nes. Never played this. Looks like Baseball Stars which I like
Outlaw Golf 2 Xbox. Looks like Tiger Woods Golf with women. Looks very good if it plays like Tiger Woods Golf.
NBA Jam T.E. Sega Genesis.. Very good. I rather play this version than the arcade version simply because of the difficulty setting. So this game has a problem saving your stats once turned off though.
Slalom Nes. Never heard of this
NFL 2K Sega Dreamcast: Never played this. Looks good if you are saying it's simplistic.
Golf Grand slam Nes. Doesn't look good. Never played it.
WWF No Mercy N64. This is a very good game. I prefer the WCW/ NWO revenge game.
NHL 94 Sega CD: This is very good. It adds a ton of extra things like better music etc & also adds video footage of the hockey players when they start & they talk about Most of the players so if you didn't know what went on in 94 or forgot this game will give you a history lesson about it.
Super Dodge Ball Nes. Don't like it.
Baseball Stars Neo Geo Pocket Color. Looks like Baseball stars. Never played this.
True story. NBA Jam was the reason my friends and I started a basketball team.
Which was something for a bunch of white Scottish kids.

love that golf grand slam got some love here. it is really under rated. i love old golf games. i wish someone would make a nes style golf game with many courses for steam. it is frustrating there is not enough love for old style golf games lol
We had thrasher on ps1 . Way more realistic than thps . But thrasher is a lot more frustrating to play

I highly suggest Valero Valley Golf on the Sega Saturn. Golf with super powers. Great memories playing it with my dad. I think you'll love it.

Sports games and RPGs I feel you Square Pegs I’m the same I like all genres of games but that’s what I gravitate more towards from 1980-Now
Side note: To me, “retro” doesn’t mean “old”, it is a fixed period in time. 30 years from now retro will still be the same the same games and consoles they are today.

2 on 2 open ice challenge for the playstation is a must buy. Its NBA jam on ice. Amazing game.

360/PS3 version was solid.. Tecmo throwback on DS hard to put down as well

I'm a sucker for retro sports games as well. Several additional ones for me would be Nintendo World Cup on NES and NFL Blitz on the Dreamcast. I still go on binges on both of these.

sports games and rpgs are my fav genres (and action adventure) but I am more into older rpgs but modern sports games. Mainly NBA 2k online my-layer with friends.
Sport talk baseball "going going gone" baseball stars, nhl 94, world series baseball thats my childhood for months.
This video certainly unlocked some childhood memories of playing nhl 94 on the snes in 4 player mode with the multitap. Thank you for nostalgia trip.
