After a couple of times of watching this video I think I got it :) this was way easier to understand than reading the instructions that are quite confusing. Thank you!
@@thelittletyrant5539 is there skill involved in it? I didn't understand much of the explanation but it seemed like you're just moving pieces what you roll. Is there strategy?
The written instructions that came with my game were not illustrated and so confusing. Found out we had been playing the game all wrong for ages. Your instructions were perfect and easy to understand. Thanks.
We play this in Cyprus all the time. 🇨🇾 The only two differences are: 1. The pieces are switched to the other side which means the players go in the other direction. 2. We only use one set of dice. Both for playing and for deciding who goes first. The player with the highest number goes first. If there is a tie, you throw again. Simple. Usually a match involves fives games. The first person to score five wins. This is a great game. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I used to play almost on every lunch break with coworkers, I have almost forgoten the rules, but this is video is concise and leaving no doubts. Thanks so much.
My brother tried to teach me. It went over my head. He then turned to my children and those little kids learned almost immediately. Ouch!! I have my brother's two boards - but my children aren't interested in having them. Go figure. I wish my brother was still here to try again to teach me.
We only move off the board with the exact roll. So if you have 2 pieces on the one slot you would keep rolling until you get a one. If you don’t get a one you can’t move. This gives the other player a chance to catch up and makes the finish more exciting.
You are correct. I've actually been pointing this out. For, if not, the winner could be determined several, if not more, rolls in advance. You need the exact number in order to bear off. 👍
Great video...ive been playing this my entire life. I learned from my grandpa's. Only variation to these rules is we came back on the board from the crossbar with either dice number that was open. Not just the furthest one away. Yea, this is hard to explain. Great job!
Played this for many years came here to refresh my memory of set as my buddy past away and was asked to play and teach my neighbor just one thing not checkers they are called stones! Other than that this is a great video for starting out and don't get discouraged it's a great game!!!👍✌
This is a very nice little website. I forgot how to play after all these years and the other tutorials are quite helpful. Thanks for a great website. Have a great day.
It's been many years since I've played. My Dad taught me and we used to play all the time. I've recently acquired the very same board and was delighted to find this simple and great guide. Can't wait to play! Thanks !!
Thanks, really plain language, easy to understand. I've been around the board from being very young, never played it. Downloaded the game on my phone out of curiosity and boredom more than anything, I even have an antique board handed down to me, and now, I can play! Thanks.
Whenever I saw this board game in the classroom as a child I thought it looked so ugly and unappealing that I felt I won something by not even playing.
You are fucking right!...I guess we had an inner genius telling us NO!! till today I still struggle with it, even this video is painful to watch! Chess is my go to game
I have seen the board game all my life, and at 45 years old, I have never played it nor knew the rules. I'm getting my 8-year-old into board games, so I feel I should add this classic to the mix.
This game has always puzzled me. I would have thought a video would spell it out. He did a good job explaining it, but this game just has too many damn rules! Looking at GHOST805's comment, I think part of my confusion could be that these rules vary.
Great job. Very concise! I used to play backgammon with my dad in the 80’s but it’s been so long I forgot how to play. Now, I’d like to play with my son. Thanks for your help!
A decent overview of the rules. Decent for someone just learning the game. Though I noticed you missed a couple technical rules that do occasionally come up. Moves of both dice are compulsory, if it is legal to do so. If there is a situation wherein it is legal to move either of the dice, but not both, you must use the higher die. If there is a situation wherein you roll and cannot legally use both dice, but there is a play that will make the other die useable, that move is compulsory.
THIS GAME IS SO CONFUSING. AND EACH TUTORIAL VID HAS DIFFERENT RULES. LIKE WTF! SO DUMB. I'M GOING NOW TO MY BACKYARD TO BURY BACKGAMMON.. DEEP.. FOREVER
There are different types of backgammon. Like, for example, on the same checkered board, you can play chess and checkers. Just choose which ever you like. Get it?
I played checkers and taught my young son. I beat him the first game. Never again. He went on to learn chess and joined the chess club in elementary school. I never played checkers again. I wasn't good at Monopoly either. LOL
Back in the 80s, clubs had boards set up at tables to play. Like how you sat at a Ms PacMan table game. I had so much fun! I recently bought a vintage game at goodwill and realized I remember nothing! lol Which brought me to here.
@@m.6343 Are you Russian or maybe Eastern European? Russian rules are different both players start with no checkers on the board and move in the same direction to finish on the right, some places play Russian rules but go around the board backwards and finish on the left.
Returning from the bar: 2:50: just to clarify: Yes. You have to bring in a checker or the bar first. But you don't have to use the lowest number. In the example given. They could have used the 2 to re-enter and then the 1 elsewhere.
