    Yes. "There is no substitute for a real tube amp" as they all say. But, this is way more convenient and allows way more room for creativity!

    Years back, and I mean YEARS back, I watched an A-list guitarist who’s sold millions of albums take a basic iRig & use his iPad. He played his whole gig with a full backing band with that setup & NOBODY was the wiser. I went to front of the house & honestly couldn’t tell the difference from that & a real tube amp. I’ve use a Line 6 Pocket Pod dialed in & again, NOBODY noticed.
    Your demo is pretty damn scary good. Technology has allowed for guitar players to do just about anything!

    Very cool. It's often shocking what can be effectively miniaturized. It would be interesting to see some latency testing results, null test comparisons, and blind tests. Thanks

    Never thought about the fact that I could record on my phone di and reamp later in the studio if I get “the take” out of the studio. Next level unlocked thanks G

    Great video, Steve. We've already stopped using amps at our gigs. I use the Dream '65 pedal and the good guitarist in our band uses the Ruby. Our bass player also uses an amp sim pedal. I miss my Two Rock amp, but going direct with the pedal is so much easier, and not one person has ever complained that we don't use real amps on stage.
    This iRig looks like a super product for gigging - I'll check it out (but wait to see if I win your contest before pulling the trigger on one!)

    Using irig USB on the iPad with amplitube/biasfx/tonex, can I minimize the amplitube/biasfx/tonex and open a pdf with sheet music/notes and the amplitube will continue to work normally?

    I haven't had an amp since... 2006? 7? Then 8 yrs ago I found BIAS FX. Got an used iPhone S for like $70, the original iRig (found a few clones for less than a $1 on amazon! hahaha) and the iRIg 2. That's been my main rig for almost a decade now. I am telling you, live, no one can tell I am not using real amps. Great for a damaged back, and for a poor man's budget! haha Maybe time for an upgrade? We'll see... Thanks man!

      Audio sync issue on my end from using Cakewalk on my PC. Something about the rendered audio wouldn't line up. Ironically, if I had done that segment directly to my ipad, it wouldn't have been an issue lol

    Another cool thing about this and all direct modelers that we may not think of is. Our hearing. We’re actually saving our hearing nowadays. With silent stages everywhere from pubs to Wembly. The only ones going deaf now is the audience lol.

  • @graaf33

    Actually, most of us have never heard all these amps, for that you have to be INN the room. We all heard miced up, converted and spitet out of an frfr speaker. Yepp even concerts. And that’s what all these computer things do, and I love it😂 that’s what I have heard on my lp, cd and now streaming music for all my time.

    Just bought the i Rig HD X
    and I’m either not using it correctly or it’s a pile of rubbish ( by the way I have the previous model that I really enjoy)
    The sound out of the earphones is dull ! The volume knob lights up but it doesn’t seem to increase the volume when you turn it clockwise !
    The new design cables are a better fit and more secure
    than previous model .
    Will call irig tomorrow see what they say

    I have it at home - iRig HD X - it's actually a USB sound card. Nothing more, except for the built-in tuner (which is really quite useless). The sound is produced by the programs, not the iRig. So depending on which program this USB interface is connected to, it plays. If I had to evaluate it. . . it's a small USB interface that fits in a jeans shirt pocket. Relatively cheap stuff. But programs and patches are not cheap. As an introduction to this, you only get a few sounds that will tire you after two hours of playing. I like the Tonex program that comes with it for free in the basic version. Amplitube not so much. What bothers me the most is the ugly digital noise, so the noise gate is a necessity to use almost all the time. The plus is the size and the fact that it can be used with other programs. I give it 3 out of five stars. PS it's a toy :-)

    I find it difficult to believe that there is no noticeable latency through the chain of iRig AD in -> inherent phone CPU processing -> app effects processing -> iRig AD out when latency is a noticeable (and typically unbearable) issue with more expensive interfaces and AD converters. If there is no latency how did you achieve it?

    • @SteveSterlacci
      @SteveSterlacci  10 місяців тому

      I didn't achieve it. I just plugged it in and tried it. And in doing so, did not notice latency. Thats really all I've got as far as explaining that...

  • @nicolasalexander408
    @nicolasalexander408 2 місяці тому

    You can't replace a good valve amp as you could never model the chaos potential but for the ease of use and the fact for the most part people won't notice using software is preferable and a lot cheaper....in the 70's you had to mortgauge your house to buy an amp or guitar....it's amazing really....just got myself a cheap iPhone for BIAX FX2 so I don't have to use my PC all the time, it's going to be so much simplistic fun! If it all works hasn't arrived yet but eh....have a fun day buddy! :D

    I just received mine and I am disappointed with the lack of an input gain control - something that has been kept quiet in the marketing of this. On all the earlier IK devices, IK bragged about the control you would have over input gain. Now they remove it and hush hush. Why is it a problem? I only get two lights on their input meter using my Tele - very low. Going into Amplitube on my phone, with the input gain turned all the way up to the top, I am still just a third up on the input range. That means I cannot drive the amps with much input in the apps unless the app itself allows a ton of input boost. Most will not offer any more than Amplitube or Tonex offer. I am considering returning this for that reason. Also, with my prior Irig HD, I could play Amplitube with the sound coming out of my phone speakers -- enough sound to noodle in front of the TV. Not with the Irig HD X. There is no sound from the phone speakers when using it. You have to attach headphones or speakers to hear anything, which is disappointing.

    • @SteveSterlacci
      @SteveSterlacci  9 місяців тому

      I am pretty sure this is mentioned in the video that the input gain is accessible within the apps like tonex and amplitube so its not hush. Its odd that it wouldn't be enough even cranked. Try reaching out to their customer support and see if they can help?

    • @BigDancin
      @BigDancin 9 місяців тому

      @@SteveSterlacci It is mentioned in the video, but minimized as no big deal. But any modern interface should have input gain control. It is a design flaw and I don't see anything customer service could do. It is simply not adjustable, and it should be. It was a poor choice.
