- Ronnie Earl has been described as “The John Coltrane of the guitar who marries the spiritual with the traditional” . Here he plays the Berlin Blues Fest in Berlin, CT.
Ronnie considers blues guitarist and vocalist Otis Rush as having the greatest musical influence on his life, as well as Magic Sam, Guitar Slim, Jimmy McGriff, Jimmy Smith, Grant Green, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Wes Montgomery, all of whom have deeply and profoundly shaped and inspired his playing. Ronnie is a now a four-time (1997,1999, 2014, 2018) W.C. Handy Blues Award winner, renamed the Blues Music Awards, as Guitar Player of the Year. He has served as an Associate Professor of Guitar at Berklee College of Music, taught for five years at the National Guitar summer workshop in Connecticut.
Ronnie Earl has played alongside such greats as B. B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, the Allman Brothers Band, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Big Joe Turner, Otis Rush, Earl King, Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Etta James, and Big Mama Thornton as well as gifted young blues guitarists who he just might pull up on stage at a moment’s notice.
Oh man. So good.
Mr.Intensity!❤️🎸
From 2004 -- see post by David O'Neil.
This is from Hartford, CT (Ronnie announces it @ 16:50), and likely more than 20 years old based on the lineup, and energy packed performances centered around instrumental prowess.
Thanks for very much for watching!
Definitely at the Berlin Blues Fest 2004.
On the bill with Ronnie was Debbie Davies as well as my favorite Deanna Bogart who brought sax player Ron Holloway. Also earlier an excellent CT blues band... the HooDoo Band as I see vocalist for the band the late Debra Cilingan (R.I.P.). You can see her at the 30 minute mark dressed in black applauding in front of the stage next to the girl with red shirt and white cap. She was amazing to watch... I will have to see if I have footage of the HooDoo Band.
Let me pull the master tape and see the record date. Glad you liked it, he definitely is a spiritual & talented artist... one of a kind!
This must be from at least 20 years ago! The giveaway: The audience aren't watching it via their mobile phone's screen like a bunch of morons! Back when people just used to chill and listen to the music and enjoy the moment. Class.
Ronnie is my favorite living musician! Thank you for the upload! This is crack for Ronnie addicts!! :D
He is a favorite of mine as well too!
Love this, what is the date of this jam?
Outstanding!
Great fotage and sound too.
Thanks, it's Ronnie's talent, spirit and emotion that translates into great footage! For sound we like to blend a direct feed from the sound board and mix it with an ambient microphone off the Main speakers... the combination of sounds (dry off the sound board and wet off the microphone) makes for a good balance.
I studied with Ronnie at the National Guitar Summer Workshop in '92, '95, and '96. He's a huge influence and a dear friend. Thank you so much for posting this! Would you happen to know the date of this show?
It is from the 2004 Berlin Blues Fest also featuring Debbie Davis which I will post later and a very favorite of mine... Deanna Bogart (which I will also post)
That's a treasure!
Shit! Thanks for uploading this!
💙💙💙
Thank You Maestro 😂
Does anyone know the name of the tune at 15:51? I don't remember hearing Ronnie play it on other gigs.
Don't know if you saw the comment from Mike but he says the song is:
The song's called "Little Johnny Lee." The studio version's on Ronnie's album I Feel Like Goin' On from 2003.
I think this is around 1998.
38.42
Just curious Luke... what does 38.42 mean?
@@BluesPlateSpecial Ronnie plays just after that moment what I consider to be a wonderful lick into the 5 chord....thanks for the great video
