Sorry for the late upload everyone. We had to deal with technical difficulties and poor internet.😥 It's up and we hope you enjoy. Have an awesome day!😀
Green Dream Project when are you going to get a land line - then you would have fewer internet issues 😂🤣😂😁🤡😱 Seriously, we can fully understand off grid technical issues. BTW, folks in really cold climates may need to dig them up in the fall if the ground freezes very far down.
You both are very funny. Your also very creative and knowledgeable. I live in the Mojave Desert California. It's a challenge living here. Thank you for the great ideas. 💐💐
Just watched this again with Gin. She reminded me that she wanted to make some of these at our previous home and garden. Never got to it before we sold the place. Now she's missing her old garden and I'm sleeping on the couch tonight. Thank you Jim and Jessica. Glad I had her watch this with me. LOL! Seriously though, I might try and make an Olla pot sometime. I have two barrels of clay that I dug out from under our cabin. My creation would probably not resemble an Olla pot but might be fun to try.
Very cool. That gorilla glue is good but I'd wrap it up in extra air tight bag if not used quick. I've had mine about a year and I can't get much out anymore. And I had it tight. Good job love it
😀We did! This is just a simple cheap way anyone can put together. If we made it out of clay, it might turn some people off. Firing them would be difficult for most I think.
Good info. I did this last year for my garden bed but I use a wine cork and some clay to seal the hole. I only did the single pot because garden bed was not deep enough for the double pot. Great video y'all.
@@ourselfreliantlife Yes it is. We have gotten a lot of rain this year but usually we don't. I find it helps prevent blight because your not getting foliage wet too
Hello Jim and Jessica, I love the way you both shared the information. I have not put this out side but I have put this in my in the house plants. It helps when we go away and my daughter has to care for my plants. She doesn't do a good job. No worry the pot helps keep the plants alive. When I use the pots I put a piece of broken pot in the bottom and it is pours but slows down the water. Great tips and supper smart idea. Thanks. .💕 NonnaGrace
Let's olla!! Great video you two. You can also put a sealant on the top and 2-3 inches down on the pot. This prevents spalling (flaking off) in light frosts/freezes and prevents evaporation off the surface of the pot. I always bring mine in for winter in my climate.
Stacyjo here, I won an olla pot from Bombs to Bushels Homestead 200 sub give away, and I'm trying to think of a good place to put it, ya know, I don't want to make the rest of my garden jealous or anything hahaha. We hand water everything, so I'm sure I will love these. I have tons of pots laying around and I think I'll try this to re-purpose them. Thanks for sharing this.
Awesome!! What a cool prize! They definitely make a good way to water. If you're doing a garden bed, yeah you'll probably want more.😁 Thank you very much!!🙏
ooo Homestead info AND a craft!! I use GE Phillips II clear silicone caulk for the entire project. I have made a lot of crafty outside stuff caulking together glass, like vintage plate and vase bird baths and tea cup feeders. It is fully waterproof, weatherproof and durable. I figured if it sticks a smooth, slick sealed surface like glass it will work even better for porous surfaces and it does. To prove a point, I 'accidentally' caulked a set of crystals I found to a mirror in 1997. Then I found out they were valuable and oopsie, they are STILL stuck to that hideous mirror! I have tried soaking, pulling, swearing and sorcery to get them separated! Still stuck!
Well done y'all, good instructional video for sure!! My question to ya is how close to the plants do ya bury the olla? Thank y'all for sharing this!! Dan
Good question Dan! The water spread on these varies on the size of the pots that are being used. You generally want to plant close to them. For our size pots the water spread is within a foot of the pot. Thanks for asking Sir!
Great DIY video. A cheap & simple solution to a problem. My kinda deal. I had thought about using unglazed clay pipe or flue liners buried the length of the garden. However, after researching it, it is fired to a much higher temp, making it much less porous than regular clay pots. It was just a thought. Gotta think outside the box sometimes. Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas
THAT THUMBNAIL! 😂😂😂😂 Oh my! Well I love this idea!! I think it'd be great for any garden! Thanks for sharing! I'll never think of gorilla glue without thinking of GDP now 😂😂

Hi...I saw your previous video on Ollas...loooooved it! Wanted to ask...how often to do you fill the Olla? I understand it depends on rate of osmotic transfer, but just curious. Also there's probably no worry in filling it "too soon" anyways right?
I think the heat of summer we had to fill them twice a week.
That video was outstanding. Really like it.

Thank you!
Cool I want to see these in action. Im most curious about reach. How far away can you plant from the pot and still be effective. Look forward to seeing them in use 👍👍
Thanks G! It all depends on the size of the pot, but ours has about a one foot radius around it for the seepage.
Very neat, I have this crazy thought in my head of lining a garden with clay and firing it in the ground somehow to create a garden long olla trough, Is that such a thing? hummmm. but anyway the rest of my crazy thought is having a large rain catching tank that feeds directly into it making it 100% automated
There are such things as terracotta irrigation pipes, but they are definitely difficult to find and would probably be expensive. Making them your own could be a possibility.
I like the idea of ferrocement cisterns. A lot of possibilities there, including making walls that double as water tanks.😀
Good video! How much area will the pot cover?
Thanks Michael! There's a ratio to it, but ours ranges to almost a foot around the pot.
I gould glue a piece of flat terracota with the silicon.

@@ourselfreliantlife like I might steal this idea and recreate it 😄 is if we can build as good an olly as GDP
Is this something that you have to pull after the season and “replant” during growing season?
Good question! It depends on your climate. If you're prone to freezing during the winter, I would pull them up.
Thanks for asking. 😀
Good idea! We are flooded currently.
Thank you! Sorry about the flooding.😬
If you have clay soil, you can plug the bottom with it.
I have a question for you desert experts? How can we plant 10 black oak trees and have them survive in Canelo, AZ?
That's a good question! There's a lot of information we would need to make a real good assessment. From what I know those trees will do okay in poor soil and with little water. I would definitely do basins for each of the trees and add mulch around them as well. Look into maybe a lasagna style mulching.

Glue and Silicone adding chemicals into the mix here will be the main question. Good luck buddy!
