- In support of my ATC SCM100ASLT review at www.hometheaterhifi.com, Ben Lily of ATC and Leland Leard of Lone Mountain Audio chat with me about the history of ATC and about what makes the SCM100ASLt so special.
ATC speakers were first demonstrated to me in a hotel room in 1993. The rep had all the drivers out on a sturdee table. He said have a look at these ... when I lifted the 12 inch woofer I thought it was stuck to the table with glue. Huge magnetic structures blew me away. The quality of everything I saw was next level. He played me some Yello about as loud as a bomb 💣 being detonated lol. The clarity and the rush of dynamics plus no distortion I could hear convinced me. Big bucks there for a youngster....you get what you pay for. More recently I heard the smaller monitors in a large room with Fiona Joy Hawkins playing a grand piano ...the active Atc speakers with twin 7 inch woofers the magic 3 inch dome mid and tweeter sounded very authentic indeed. I like how Atc haven't gone down the road of switchmode amplifier tech. You don't need mega watts if your drivers are up to standard. A friend of mine works at a place that repairs speakers and I regularly see all types. ATC drivers stand out for all the right reasons. Well done guys fine product.
I just bought my first pair of ATC active loudspeakers the SCM100A and it is the most amazing speaker I have ever heard. This was one of the videos that was instrumental in helping me with my purchase. I hope you have Ben on again soon so I get an opportunity to thank him.
Congratulations! I'm in the process of selling my current speakers and integrated amplifier and I will be purchasing ATC 100 actives. I wish I could demo the passives before I sell my integrated amp, but nobody here in Canada has passives to demo. But the actives blew my mind!
I don't want to give up my amplifiers, but that midrange driver makes me feel funny inside, haha.
I run this pair of ATC 100ASLT since a few years, controlled with a VTL 6.5 tube preamp. They are definetely the last speakers in my home unless we move to more space , then next would be 150 or 300 to enjoy the 15''/375mm bass drivers capabilities 😊
love these speakers actually almost purchased a pair at the time.
Bloody cool speakers and people!
I found the ATC 20T had the best imaging. How do these compare? Thanks!
I found the imaging to be excellent. Everything was very clear and precisely placed in space. And it extended well beyond the boundaries of the speakers.
