  • One of the attractions in the Lumding-Badarpur section is the abundances of bridges built on curves. This video is a compilation of our passage through some of these magnificent structures. These include the Boila, Dyang, Dhanuk and Barak river bridges.
    Highlights from the complete Barak Valley Exp. trip can be seen here:

    Indeed...the old British built structures, while may not seem at par with today's sophistication and technology, had a unique charm. And yes, there is absolutely no questioning of their reliability owing to the fact that these bridges and structures have survived for so many years!! This video compilation is truely outstanding!! it left my wife speechless while watching it ;-)

    What a fantastic camera work giving beautiful bridges and valley views with a background music of MG trains running noise and occasional purr of YDM 4. Really a treasure as people protest for BG conversion of this line. Thank you so much.

    There are many MG bridges which are still intact today & can be easily seen from new BG trains running on the opposite mountain across the Barak valley. Dhanuk at 7:20 is one such viaduct.

    This is going straight into my favorites as it encompasses everything I love about MG and indeed IR itself. There's breathtakingly beautiful scenery, amazing YDM4 chugging and honking, long viaducts, and last but certainly not least, the incomparable MG sounds and atmosphere. Amazing capture Vijay and I daresay it's one of your best ones yet.

    When I was a small kid. My father used to take me to my native place... a small hamlet named Bihara. My grandparents used to live there. We used to journey by train... from Guwahati... Cachar Express or Barak Valley Express.... meter gauge!
    From Halflong, a steam locomotive used to join us.... do the pushing job as our diesel locomotive tugged the coaches through the steep incline... passing through 36 dark tunnels and a greater number of viaducts. The sound of the shrill steam whistle is still fresh in my memories....

    Dear Sir,
    I had a wonderful two days journey in this line covering Agartala Lumding in monsoon showers and mist covered hills.It was really nice and also made me sad that this line is closing in Oct. 14. I could see a lot of work done on broad gauge line as it is independent of existing MG line in Assam and Agartala should be a simple conversion. May be it should be done in two years as the recent rail budget has made full allocation. I also heard from a senior Govt. of Assam employee that 36km stretch is likely to be announced as heritage and retained as MG. With MG going Lumding will lose its division status to Silchar as it has more facilities. Thanks a lot.

    • @ManiVijay
      @ManiVijay  10 років тому

      Good to hear from you and glad that you traveled on it at the right time - in monsoon! It's heartening to note that they are going to preserve 36 km. in MG.

  • @ManiVijay

    Since I enjoyed these bridges so much, I HAD to do justice to that by creating some sort of compilation. Bridges such as this truly make this a very memorable section in all of IR. Unfortunately, concrete bridges are being employed on the BG line in construction - so all these will disappear with conversion :-(

  • @ManiVijay
    @ManiVijay  11 років тому

    Thanks again, Sanjay! I echo your thoughts about these magnificent bridges. Unfortunately, most of the BG bridges are all concrete and will not be nearly as exciting as these.

    Hello Sir, As u might be aware that this line is now converted to BG and plenty of trains have been introduced shortly with the conversion. But just wondering why the BG trains also have slowl speed (though it takes less time now due to minimisation of distance) but speed remains the same.Is it because of hilly terrain?If so then how come trains run at good speed in Konkan railway

    • @ManiVijay
      @ManiVijay  7 років тому

      Plenty of trains? There are three from Delhi, one from Kolkata and only one daily train - the passenger. Not even close when compared to how it was back in the 80s and 90s. Where are the BG avatars of Cachar, Barak Valley and Agartala-Lumding Exp. which were all daily trains? As you would have guessed by now, IR promises a lot after conversion but delivers little.

    • @abirlala1195
      @abirlala1195 7 років тому

      Mani Vijay You r right, but this is the step-motherly attitude of NFR towards Barak valley & Tripura as they r are always concerned for Upper Assam part. However, some more trains have been introduced like an overnight passenger special, Agartala Rajdhani express & Trivandrum express which is going to b extended to Silchar from 18th Nov.
