@@bryantan4228 Tbh Karn is much better than Immortal Sun in this deck. If anything just sideboard the Immortal Sun because its not even a big deal if you play both. If you have Karn and made a token with it with a replicator out, karn already did his work.
NotGoodMTG I’m gonna be honest with you, I run a Black White control deck with 2 Karn and one Immortal Sun. I’ve never been unhappy jamming a Sun into a Karn (because I get better card draw off Sun) or jamming a Karn into my Sun (nice Cleansing Nova, but my Karn is still here) I think that a deck with a reliance on Vraska removable permanents can run Sun over Teferi. Plus the mana reduction and pump is good with Replicators
I'm still getting used to Arena. On Magic Online you control all of the steps individually, so I'm used to having an upkeep stop for things like Treasure Map, but on Arena it also includes a draw step stop too by default.
I think in your second match against the Drake/Phoenix deck, you probably should have used the Ixalan's Binding on that first drake. Knowing that they tend to churn through the deck very fast to find redundant threats you could have leveraged the "can't be cast" clause to strand any drake they find in their hand (in this case, it would have been two). It's possible that the Murmuring Mystic would have killed you, since Justice Strike can't answer it, but that clock is a lot slower.
That win! Match 1, game 2 (20:00) Both had anti counterspell tech, didn’t look like you’d make it. Oh man, when you worked it out and won, I literally threw my head back like, “YES!” Haha Wow, that was so satisfying!
Yeah I just love seeing "Your Turn!", "Opponent's Turn!", hard to see top down view of lands, don't see the phases of each turn either???......ugh, maybe it's acquired taste, lol
@@DarrenR84 I've never found those things to be a problem. For the turns, the thing you click at hte bottom left tells you what phase it is. Plus all of those things are fairly minor where the problems with mtgo are endemic and very deep. THe major thing with arena, while the UI isn't perfect, it's easy to learn and watch. Whereas mtgo, it takes soo much getting used to and it's so ugly.
joel quinn yeah if you want to play standard thoufh it’s so much better than mtgo. Modern will take a very long time to implement. MTGO has modern because it’s been around since before modern was a format. P
Loved the vid, as always! Surprised not to see a couple of Karns in the list though- he digs, triggers replicator and gives you constructs that replicator pumps.
Love Arena streams. Also prefer without beard cam, I guess you're not playing on Twitch here, but listening and watching without interruptions from call outs is ideal for me. I can enjoy the gameplay and it's almost soothing enough to put me to sleep....
Just curious, why not Mox Amber over either Traveler's Amulet or Chromatic Lantern? Is the Amber's downside of tapping for mana sometimes bad over it being a free artifact spell to trigger the Replicator or Jhoira?
The big problem is we're not very good at making mana with Mox Amber. Only our four Raffs, one Jhiora and one Squee turn it on, which means it won't add mana with any consistency :(
I feel like this idea gets even better when Allegiance comes out and we get to turn to esper. Phyrexian Scriptures specifically would be a fun combo, but you really need Raff also (so PS comes online sort of the turn you play it) so we need all the Esper lands. I am also wondering why no Traxos and Karn's in this? Karn is a nombo with Immortal Sun, but does the deck need that really? Was it just because you are on arena and the rares and mythics wouldn't be worth it in an Against the Odds deck?
Does the patch ALSO fix 5th card issue, or are they leaving in the chance to get literally nothing from packs while ALSO cutting rewards for playing the game?
In match one game 3, could you have just held up steal away and used it on chromium before blocks and then block with a 2/2 to kill it? Edit: just saw the entire turn.
If they ever do a "Return to Kamigawa" set, there needs to be an Arcane spell replicator creature. Also this play through does teach how to play against Mishra's Self-Replicator, people need to destroy it immediately and not pass priority.
You do not get priority before your opponent can play another spell, and by that point it is too late. Only countering the replicator can 100% avoid it potentially replicating immediately. The card doesn't have an ETB so the active player does not pass priority before they get to cast the second spell, and even if they cast it on your turn, they can play the historic spell in response.
@@Neirean Thanks, I got that wrong then. I thought the opponents were maybe making mistake or strategically playing incorrectly. I have never played online or on this arena (and probably never played the rules perfectly once upon a time with actual cards).
Good lord people stop complaining about arena. Used to be everyone said MTGO was garbage and horrible which is true but when they come out with something else that is clearly better for streaming or recording everybody is suddenly in love with MTGO
I always love to see ATO in Standard. Its the Jankiest of the Jank builds. Lemme play a 4 drop legendary creature to play a five drop legendary creature so I can pay more mana on 3 drop legendaries in order to make more 2/2s Wow
Okay, this may be a far fetch, but this deck should be named "American History X"! Jeskai = American, historical = History and multiplication (replication) sign = X.
Why do you keep super manually tapping when you have lanturn out. At that point it doesn't matter, just let auto-tapper handle it. Especially when one of the lands you're always manually tapping first is Field of Ruin, that's like, the one you want to have open the most.
Keep in mind that to give Chromium hexproof, opponent also has to make it a 1/1 with no abilities. So if chromium attacks into a 2/2 and a seal away, one way or another the chromium will die.
You can't remove Din of the fireherd from the voting board! The audience clearly wants it. The votes were extremely close multiple times in a row. Please Seth, please.
You used removal pretty poorly in game 2 against the Drake deck. Seal away on Electromancer- should have been Justice Strike. Ixalan's Binding should have gone on Crackling Drake so he couldn't cast 2 more and draw more cards. This would have left you dealing with a Murmuring Mystic which is a much slower threat than Crackles and would have given you more time to gain life with Lyra or draw into more removal.
Seth, in all your videos you always very aggressively use your removal against mana-dorks. But since standard isn't that fast of a format, slowing down your opponent slightly seems a lot less important than removing whatever big threat they play with that one extra mana.
I think it depends on the matchup and deck. One of the challenges for our deck is that our removal is pretty good at handling small and medium size creatures, but not great at dealing with planeswalker or bit things like Doom Whisperer, so something trying to stop the fast mana is the best plan.
That's only for the stream for now (since it makes it hard to edit the videos without the beard came jumping all over the place and looking really weird).
You can vote for next week's deck here! www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/against-the-odds-replicator-historic-standard-magic-arena
This is this least aggressive deck I've ever seen play 1 mana 2/2s. Awesome!
Thought I'd pipe in that I'm actually pretty fond of when you use arena. I don't mind mtgo either, but arena is real nice to watch
Thanks for the feedback!
Agreed!
Using Raff to flash in Shalai to fizzle a removal spell - or better yet, a Settle - is one of the greatest feelings in the world.
It's pretty sweet!

Can you play storm the vault in standard because if so it seem like it would be really fun in this deck and just solid ramp
