If your just changing the fuel filter (black cartridge) a simple way to do this is to just prime to filter itself. I used a small 1 litre utility pump with a nozzle that fit into the spout on the side of the filter. Started up straight away easy money , no mucking around taking out seats or anything like that 😊
A VERY good Video. I don't have the year or model, but i am looking how to use VAG COM to run the pump on a 2001 A4. This video is precise, well explained, and short. Great Job.
There is a much easier way without VCDS than your hard way. There are two relays for the fuel pumps. The relays are located below the dash board. You have to remove the cover to access them. The relays are labeled 404 and located at place 4.1 and 5.2 (side by side). Remove and jump them. For daredevils like me, a paperclip does the job :-)
+Bernhard Gubanka is this on the jetta or Passat I have a 2012 jetta and have been looking for the info you just gave out I was amazed that they had made this so difficult
It is obvious - there is a "wiring diagram" printed on the relays. I didn't check the pin numbers - theoretically they should be 30 and 87. Be carefull! 30 is always hot.
The CAN protocol is unavailable to me, I only have UDS, so the "Meas_Block" option is also unavailable. I do not understand. I have a VAG of 18.9 and the car is a Passat b7 (2011 year)
"carista" can run the fuel priming , now. I used it today. And do try to start the motor while it is priming, the fuel pump running off the timing belt can't be primed, so its going to need help.
i followed this after running out of fuel and procedure didnt work for me. Used vcds method, both pumps seems run via tests, but no luck after cranking up. Nice video though.
If you were to manually bleed the air out using a vacuum pump like a Mightyvac, which of the four hose(s) at the fuel filter would you need to disconnect and plug the vacuum pump into to draw out the air? This would be on a 2012 mk6 Golf. I’m assuming you would disconnect the braided cable that goes to the HPFP and clamp that closed, and then connect the vacuum line to the port on the fuel filter and draw in the fuel to the vacuum. Does that sound right?
Or actually would I need to hook the vacuum to the fuel return line (back to fuel tank) which would draw fuel from the tank and filter and then into the vacuum which would ensure the filter is full with fuel and no air?
I have the latest VCDS installed, when i go to basic settings there are only options in a pull down list, I am not able to type in group 35. So my options are not the same. Any advice?
Hey, question for you. I just changed my fuel filter on my mk6 CJAA golf. Ive done this procedure multiple times. This time, I can get it to crank. I added some more fuel to the canister but still, no crank. I typically use Mann fuel filters but this time I went with a Hengst E19H D83. Think it could be the filter?
Hie , got a Vw Touareg r5 TdI, my problem is last week the fuel station guys put diesel that was contaminated with water, after driving for a few kilomtres, the car stated misfiring and some jags then it stopped, i tried to crank it then it started aftr few seconds of idling it cuts off,we checked the diesel in the filter thats when whe saw that there was a mixture of diesel and water, so we drained all the diesel in the tank and cleaned the tank and also cranking to clear everthing in line from tank to the diesel filter, then we put new diesel n new filter, but nw the car is only cranking without starting, wat could be the problem guys
I diagnosed faulty injector on 1.6 tdi engine in 2016 octavia via leak off test. Fitted it. Coded it in and now it runs terrible. Injector brand new so highly unlikely its that. No codes at all. I'm hoping because I've had pipes off theres an air lock and this will fix it. Any help appreciated!
I have a 2013 VW Polo Comfortline 1.6 liter TDI. Is it not necessary to manually open the injector lines on top of the cylinders with a spanner to physically bleed out the air?
My mechanic tried to start the engine normaly after fuel filter change but it didnt start. Then he remembered that it had to be done via the pc. Do you think that 2 or three times 6-8 seconds tryes he did that the hight pressure pump had any damage???
After changing the fuel filter i cranked the car 10 times and got it started, then drove 10km and guess the fuel system is air free..... Did not know about the vcds methode....I will get me a vcds next time
Hi my high lift pump went on my 2011 jetta had to change everything i didnt do what ypu done by priming the pump i just primed it turnning the key few times now my auxiliary pump next to the fuel filter under the bonnet is making a humming noise does anone know why its doing this
Yep, VW have changed the software again. You can run the low pressure pump but the high pressure pump can'r be operated. Just prime using the LP pump and then try a start. It will crank a little longer than normal then fire. No real prob if you've tightened everything right!
Just because some of you have started you cars without priming the system does not mean its an OK thing to do. You could very well be damaging your hpfp (you know, the one that uses fuel for lubricant) every time you do it. It may not fail the first time, but when it does fail it will be very expensive to fix. Quit being cheap and buy a VCDS cable if you are going to work on your car. Or find someone that has one and is willing to share. There are plenty of those guys out there.
I just finished changing the fuel filter on my wife's MK6 2010 TDI Sportwagon with the type 3 fuel filter housing and did not use the VCDS. I just started it right up. It primed itself. Some diesels are self priming, some are not. Our boat has a Perkins 4-108 diesel and it will not self prime. I have to bleed the whole bloody thing or it won't run right.
Hey where did you order your cable from? ive been looking at amazon but people saying cable ont work if you run windows 7 or 10 off your laptop. Its for my 2012 Volkswagen Golf TDI 2.0L Wagon
Do you know how many pumps the 1.6 TDI 2011 has? If I turn on the ignition, on my 1.6 TDI 2011, I do hear some noise from the area where the pump at the tank is located... What pumps, specificly, are you activating when running the VCDS, for priming?
The video shows an electric pump up front ? the common rails have a timing belt pump... for any non-electrical pump, prime the tank pump while attempting to start, the overruning of the tank pump is boosting pressure up enough to cause the fuel to circulate, returning the air to the fuel tank ... where its no problem.. whereas the pumps ordinarily regulate pressure to just enough to supply the injectors all they need, but not enough to cause circulation.
2011 and up by xtool from Amazon and go to basic settings then enter 035 then hit enter. That primes front pump and unit only costs like 35$!! Your welcome! Trying to figure out what one does the rear pump now.
I tried doing this on my 2013 Passat. My VCDS software was a little different - latest version. Under basic Settings I didn’t have the option to type in group 35. I only had a drop down list and the only fuel related options I could see were the initial fuel fill and the transfer pump test. I did the transfer pump test 3 times but it still did not start. Any suggestions? (I was replacing injectors - got two replaced but the other two were stuck so I was trying to restart the engine to see if a heated engine would help to get them loose)
Randomly my 2014 3.0 A6 tdi misfired on startup as if air got into the fuel lines. Restarting it a couple of times and letting it sit for a few minutes resolved the issue. Curious what it might have been. It just happened one time without anything notable surrounding the event. I replaced the fuel filter with OEM a couple years ago.
I thought there is only one electric fuel pump in the back of the car. The high pressure pump is mechanical, isn't it? Using VCDS 17.8.0 I could only activate that one in the fuel tank.
I think he is saying the second pump Is the injection pump and it has electronic valve to open allow fuel to flow through the test push air out of the system since it has return to the tank
Help! I'm trying to purge the lines manually. Do I need to have the fuel filter tank open or sealed after replacing the fuel filter? I filled the fuel tank all the way full and sealed it. Do I leave it open to purge? How do I plug the cables in the back seat?
The fuel pumps always supply more fuel than needed. Otherwise the engine could starve of fuel. Excess fuel pumped to the engine is sent back via a fuel return line.
Starting from the fuel pickup in the tank all the way to the engine there should be no air in the lines, but the tank has air in it. Air purged will go to the tank.
on a duramax first you need a special tool called a hand, which you use to press the primer on the filter housing. Then it's done. why they have 3 pump is bullshit, at most you need one lift pump to feed the main high pressure. I will stay with the BRM and older volks diesels. The new gen has very bad injection pump design that eats itself up.
after you go to control module and Enginer output test ! when the fuel pomp goes on and off means is good or not? how do i specify what is good and not? also have you got more tutorials to check the enginer and turbo performance?
