The shear rock face crash was actually my 73 yo Dad, Thane Fleming. We were out flying with him in January, and he crashed his 6 month old MA2. He tried to get Bryan or I to land it, but we made him (successfully) fly it back. DJI refresh and he's back to using his drone to herd cattle and check his ranch

"Crash Course" (lmao). Seriously, if ever there was a case for 360 video, it world be drones, and even simple 3D-FPV would give needed "debth perception"...oh and the best way to shoot a "back-away" scene...is to run the video backwards...just because you have a drone, it doesn't make you a "cinematographer"...(but ,stupid = funny").

🤔 so what i have learned from these videos is ... I need hi-vis colouring on the drone for easy spotting in trees, and old school inflatable floaties so should I end up in the drink I can recover the carcass of my water logged dead mini 2 🥺

Hey Ken, love your stuff. On the cliff at 1:57, my father in law was flying his new drone we got him. My wife and I coached him back down after the gimbal broke and lost the ability to turn.
Glad We got him The MA2 DJI Refresh. He is now back in business hearding his cattle on his ranch with it.

lol epic crashes. Seems like too many users spend too much time looking into the viewfinder screen rather than seeing where the drone is or even checking out the surrounding area. Had a few near misses myself but only due to wind blowing my drone towards trees so just stopped the drone and thought of how to get out of the problem rather than just carry on
If you're talking about the clip at 1:05 (which is mine), the drone was in active track, so...out of my control.

Long time fan first time writer,,,,,,,nice video, crashes are funny when they are not yours. I have had two crashes same tree both times…..the drone lived to fly again. Just a little bit glue and it’s good as new.

I bought 4 drones in case this would happen. Im trying to rebrand my channel soon and I plan to eventually get shots with a drone. I got 4 cheap $25 practice drones expecting them to get damaged while practicing and when i master it Ill go all in on a drone.
There is a reason I always try to fly above the tree line. But I’m not flying FPV so that makes it easier.

Most of these people had no line of sight of their drones which is a basic 101 rule now. Know the area you are flying in, be aware of the space between you and the drone. You are like the radar for your drone.

A lot of the backward rising shots are prime examples of how you should think things through first. Most of them didn't contain any dynamic subjects, and could have been flown down and forward, then reverse the shot in post.
I wish DJI would put 180 deg obstacle avoidance as a selection in their DJI Mavic 2 drones. They have it in the tripod mode but I would like to see this in their GPS mode as a choice in their menu.
OR - you could watch the aircraft rather than the display...

6:44 I've droned that bridge a couple times. JOE just lives down the street from me. Actually haven't met him despite the numerous times he's flown his drone near our house and has captured my Dad going out to get the mail. I'm just never home when he's flying in our area. My Dad's heard his drone flying overhead a couple times.
Do the propeller guards make much of a a difference in situations where the drone come just a little to close to a branch or wall?
Yes.
This is why you always plan your shots well in advance and ensure you always have eyes on the drone rather than just using the display on your controls.
And people wonder why DJI has so much money.
The explode on impact feature is the most profitable thing they ever invented. 😂
A special "Fly away" warning!
I'm not trying to hijack this video but I'm using any video about the Mini 2 to let people know about this issue.
I plan to make a stand alone video on this as well, but with over 163,000 subs (to my 45 subs) I thought that this might get to more people.
I had my mini fly away and crash the other day. If there weren't trees in the area , it would have been long gone.
Long story short..... when I initiated "take off" it kept rising instead of hovering at 1 meter (3 feet). I tried to lower it and it kept rising. I tried the emergency shut down (both stick together downward) and got nothing. Suddenly it shot sideways into the trees and crashed. Broken prop only, thank goodness! Man these guys are tough!!
I found out that if the WiFi and Bluetooth are not enabled, it doesn't fly right. I had shut them off and put it into 'airplane ' mode to do this shoot because I was doing a screen recording and didn't want interruptions.
This apparently causes a communication problem between the controller and the Drone.
Maybe this is common knowledge , but I've never heard of it.
It seems odd that it would let me launch if this was the case, but as soon as I enabled the WiFi and Bluetooth , the Drone flew fine.
Anyone else have this issue?
I'm using an iPhone.

I love my Mini 2. Everybody says obstacle avoidance this and obstacle avoidance that. Apparently it doesn't exactly work. Would that imply that it avoids obstacles? I have never crashed my Mini 2, because I avoid obstacles!
My yuneec typhoon h I crashed twice. Once because I relied on obstacle avoidance, and 1 equipment failure one of the motors in broke off. Oh yeah the five bladed return home never exactly worked.

Not always.
my drone crash happened the second day of owning the Inspire 1, it ran out of battery as i was bringing it back in, and decided to land itself, into the only tree in the garden :D
