There are similar videos on UA-cam but I thought yours was the best. I would classify myself in the bottom quartile of mechanical aptitude. Any fool (like me) can take things apart but I struggle with re-assembly, my brain isn’t good at solving mechanical puzzles.
My rear left side actuator failed on my 2016 Evoque, so the central locking wouldn’t work on this door which had to be unlocked and locked manually (if you could remember to lock it !). I tackled the job not really expecting to be successful but I was selling the car and didn’t want to give a buyer another excuse to knock me down.
I actually watched your video half way through the job, I kept looking at different videos because of lack of confidence on my part and because they all say something different. When I moved the door card upside down and the two metal clips (square washers) fell out, which I hadn’t noticed before, I thought OMG where did they come from ? Surprisingly I worked it out for myself and then I found your video which I think is the only one that mentions those clips and I thought to myself I wished I’d found this video before I started.
Anyway to cut an already overlong comment short, Iike some others have said I also removed the door handles to help to remove the actuator and nobody is more surprised than me that it now works !! 😳
Thanks for the video. To anyone else contemplating doing this yourself, it doesn’t take that long but set aside a morning or afternoon, it is fiddly and you need patience. You may need to buy some tools if you don’t already have a good selection, I had to borrow a long Torx Allen key from my brother to remove one of the screws that holds the door handle on. Different model years may have different screws and other fixings compared to the 2012 model in this video but nevertheless it’s all the same in principle 🇬🇧

Great video but as others said it's far far easier to remove the door handle and then remove both in one go. Can be assembled externally before putting it all back in.
    Thanks for the video

Hi, just done this on my wife's front left door (2011 Evoque). It is so much easier if you remove the exterior door handle which is very easy. You can then change the wires whist the lock is on the bench. Total time 35 mins.

Hi. Just used this video to assist my replace rear right on 2017 evoque. The innards have changed on the later model. There’s a plastic bracket now that can be moved to access the actuator. It is so much easier if you remove the door handle and replace the cables out of the door and then simply replace it in one go. I struggled to get the 90degree turn on the outer handle cable as described in this video (3hours) and if you remove the outer door handle there’s no need to fiddle through the lock hole to remove the green tabs too. There’s videos on here how to remove handle only two 25 torx screws and you can attach the cables to actuator in minutes outside of door skin and easy to replace the actuator and door handle to door as one item. Hope this helps and saves you time.

Purchased one of these door latches from eBay for less than £35, Using this video i replaced the faulty one within 60mins. This included 20mins where i'd forgotten to clip the door handle cable in properly and had to take it all to bits again. I'm not a mechanic and found the job no worse than 'fiddly'. Thanks for the video it made the job so much easier. (edit: Local LR dealer wanted £378 to do this job)

Hey, thanks for this video. Saved me heaps of money and it was actually a bit of fun to do. I am not a car person and don't usually do my own repairs but given the car is getting on (2012 Evoque) and the repair cost from the shop was going to be too much given the value of the car, I thought I'd give it a go. Your detailed video helped heaps, only a few issues (driver door is a bit different), but overall did it in about an hour, so really happy. Thanks again.

Great video, many thanks for taking the time to record and post it. I replaced the lock mechanism on my 2014 Evoque Pure Tech last night (front passenger side). Some slight variances for the front doors, but took about 1hr 15mins taking my time, especially with the cables. I wouldn't have attempted this without seeing this video, so thank you again!

Thank You - great explanation and you show all the tricks - Saved me a lot of money - my shop wanted 700€ for it with the part - unbelievable the shop wants to have nearly 5-6 times the price of the OEM part ordered in the internet - had the same experience with the brake pads - they were not willing to give me the LR Number and called up 360€ for a set of pads - ATE Pads Internet price 68€ !!!! - what a ripp of.

Agree with Pat, much easier if you remove the door handle assembly. Beware, you do need a long shafted (about 10 cms) Torx 20 to do this so make sure you have one before you start. It is still fiddly, you might like to get some tranquilisers in too. When I finally got mine out, the nylon arm wasn't broken - but replacing the whole latch mechanism still fixed it so maybe it was the servo as suggested elsewhere.

In fact its Torx 25. I just had to do it again as the replacement actuator failed after about a year. Fortunately, I had kept the old one AND replaced the burned out motor (from China but made in UK!) so the original is back in now and fine. Not sure if I have less patience following COVID but it seemed EVEN fiddlier this time. Must have been designed by someone who likes those wire puzzles where you have to get the angle just right to get it apart/together. I don't know how anyone manages to reconnect the door handle cable in situ. Your dexterity is off the scale. Do yourself a favour and connect/disconnect the door handle cable on the bench. One other note - if you pull the bracket/guide forward, it gives with a click ( I thought I had broken it but apparently not) and there is then more room to get the parts in/out.

Thanks for the great video. Saved me a lot of time trying to find out how to remove the lock. The trickiest part is definitely trying to remove the cable clip behind the lock and it was just as hard trying to get it back on the new lock. I bought one off of Amazon for £13 delivered! Obviously a Chinese OEM replica but didn't look any worse in terms of quality than the one that I took off. Remains to be seen how long it lasts. Now the other rear lock has failed in the same way so I've got to go through this all over again! Still, £32 in parts (couldn't find a £13 part for the right hand door) is far better than paying Land Rover what would probably be about £800 to change both locks. I didn't get a quote from them but I would guess that it will be circa that amount.

My doors would some times lock and wouldn't unlock at the beginning. Then after a while they stopped locking or unlocking so I used to have to manually lock the doors from the inside then get out of driver's door and then lock with the remote control as the only door that was working was the driver's door. The doors were trying to lock and unlock but you could see they almost didn't have the power to open/ close the small manual door lock lever on the inside .

@@carguru8262 My door locks fine with the central locking from the key fob but won’t ever unlock with it. I can open it using the keyless entry sensor on the door but only if the central locking is locked. If the rest of the car is unlocked it will only unlock by manually operating the interior lock lever in the handle. It’s bizarre but as I know how it works I just live with it even though it’s annoying. I call it my Land Rover door

  • @wayne7939

Very good but when you get to the bit to try to take the outer cable off , don't waste time and temper trying to work the cable through that hole. Take rubber plug out of the end of the door , shine light through and locate torx screw undo it it won't drop it's captive then the end of the outer handle pulls off and unhook the lever part , you can then ease of the clips front and back of the inner latch and cable and it drops down, jiggle both parts around the window guide and out. Swap cables etc outside the car on the bench easy . Refit reverse way . Saves hours and scraped fingers and temper. Also new part seemed dry on external parts so I used lock grease before it went in.

      @wayne7939 3 роки тому

I did my rear right door today, when replaced I did autopsy on the faulty one . Unusually it was not the fractured white platic lever. All was ok everywhere, so undid the motor housing and out of the 2 motors the larger one with the worm drive was dead. These motors just clip into spring contacts on the pcb so they are easy replaceable, it opened up the motor found the problem , comutator burned/oxidized so I cleaned it with a diamond file lube the bearings and reassembled it . All working again so I now have a donor unit for spares in future. Will locate source for these plugin motors. They must be available or they would have been soldered in.

I’ve replaced the actuator on my front passenger door which was fine, even seemed much less fiddly than the rear.

Hi Car Guru, yes thanks for your video, great, but in it there is a small part relating to the refitting of the cable that opens the door from the outside. I have just replaced my Door Lock unit all went well, the concern was, as you highlighted, the refitting of the cable this I have on, but on trying to refit the cables head into the trigger on the unit itself, I am struggling to get my hand in behind to twist align and reconnect the metal head, (19.37mins on the video) any tips? all this hassle is down to the window guide that is in the way, can this be removed to allow better access to perform the task?

      Hi,
I'm not sure about taking the window guide out as I've never done that so can't be sure how easy/hard it might be. It is very fiddly, but don't be afraid to bend the cable wire to present the wire end at a better angle. I did bend the cable with pliers almost 70 degrees. Just make sure you don't twist or bend the end of the cable where the aluminium metal fitting is . If you break that you will need to change the cable .Hope that helps and good luck

Unfortunately this video has made a simple lock removal harder than it should have been!. You can do it all in less than 30 mins.
Instead of fiddling around through a little hole to detach the cables which is near impossible to do. All that was needed to be done is to take the door handle of the car and the whole unit drops down and cables can be fitted more easily outside of the car. Reversal becomes just a easy to put it all back.

Matthew Wakefield where are you? I can do it for you. Did my Evoque too. (Front Passenger side)
(I could do a quick Diagnostic too, checking for any Fault Codes you might have etc)

Matthew Wakefield: Hi Mat. Thanks for the reply. I’m near Birmingham I’m afraid. And according to Google Maps you’re 120 miles and 2 hours 11 minutes away!!
      Too far sadly! Sorry.

Thanks again for the video. Unfortunately my 2015 Dynamic has "Passive Entry" so not only is the replacement part more expensive (only from Land Rover for over $200US), but because the part is larger I was unable to get it twisted enough to access the second cable you remove. I then found that if you remove the external door handle (which is very easy) then you can take the lock / latch out and then remove both cables after it is removed from the door. I made a short video that shows the larger lock / latch module and describes the extra steps.
