Allpowers R2500 and 400W solar panel test

- UPDATE: We have had a problem with our R2500, it has stopped working, seems like a logic problem in that the unit powers on but it just activated the internal fans straight away and none of the power outlets work. The manufacturers have offered to send a replacement immediately as they think the device needs to be looked at by the factory and there's nothing we can do, shame!
These solar power stations are one of the most useful things you can have on a cruising boat and they just keep getting better!
The Allpowers R2500 is a solid performer, to be honest all the different power stations we've used have performed exactly as described (really well) but this one has a couple of nice additions.
Also Allpowers seem to have really cracked the fold out solar panel. Their 400w panel is definitely the best I've seen for build quality and when I tested it for this video it out performed my 400w solid bifacial panel we have on the arch!

Thanks for the video. Glad you've made it to Lagos.....make sure to do lunch at Abarrigada (just behind you there over by the fishing docks). That is one of our favorite places in Lagos.
Yes we've done it, great fish
Bought one for my camper van and im going to use a induction hob and air fryer for my dinner , I bought the r2500 and got 2 x 400 watt panels for £1700
hair dryer test am sold
I just got one with 300 watts of panels from Walmart for 1370 bucks tax included free shipping 😊I love that I can use it and charge it at the same time 😊
Great video Steve, I only use my boat for 2 months holiday every year. We like to spend time at anchor [Culatra] . The problem is we have to run the engine regularly to keep the fridge working. Would the All Powers 400W removable solar panel plugged in to the ship’s battery do this.
Well it depends on the power draw of the fridge of course, but a 400w panel should give you enough to keep the batteries up with an average fridge. If we say the fridge draws 5A (60w) that would be 1,440w over 24hrs. The panel might give you an average of 300w over 8 hours on a good day so that’s 2,400w. So you should have 1000w spare. Of course you can’t plug the panel directly into the ships battery, you need an MPPT converter, the solar power stations have one built in so you can plug straight into them
The XT60 tip is great. Those lighter sockets are terrible. Thanks! I see you can buy some that are mountable which might be nice for some installs.
Another great informative video 👏
A question on your Solar panel switchover. Does that come out of the MPPT controller towards the battery/storage unit?
No, it's before the MPPT. The solar generators have their own MPPT's. So the cables come straight from the panel into that double pole switch which sends it to the power station or MPPT for the ships bank.
It's part of the reason I like the solar power stations. As well as the extra battery capacity you have redundancy with a spare MPPT and a spart inverter!
I am only on episode 31, usually watch 1 or 3 per day as I would like it to last. But I am thanking you again for the quality of filming and editing you two do! It is absolutely the best music, film and editing of all the many youtube shows I watch; As good as LBZ (better) or any other millions of dollars operation. Thank You so much for all of your efforts. A question, do you get paid more if I watch all of the commercials or if I pay to not have them at all? Curious for you and my other favorites. Thank You again and I hope you continue for many years, it is so refreshing to see people my age out there making the best of it and really enjoying life!
Well thank you so much for that lovely message. To be honest I have no idea how YT work out how they pay! I’m sure we get more if the ads are watched, and I hear creators get a some sort of cut from people who pay for add free but knowing YT they probably keep the majority! I’d be interested to see what you think as you work through the episodes, I think we’ve gone more UA-camy in style but we’ve tried to up the quality. We certainly take more time over each episode now. Not sure if that makes it better if worse!
As camera , affordable camera that is , technology becomes available , you are providing better and better quality video for us , but you are a professional camera man Steve and know and understand what works best for any given situation . Personally I do not have those skills , but I reckon your videos usually are top notch . Fair play to Fair Isle and crew ! @@svfairisle
I need one desperately will buy any power pack you don't really need, love your videos.
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
Great video. 🙂 Thanks!
How do I get the discount on this,if you don't need yours I'll buy yours .
They promised to give me a discount code but haven't done it yet, I will let you know!
Are the cigarette lighter sockets easy to change for the xd60, and what are the benefits. I
Yes you can buy XT60 socket, i get them in bags of 6 from Amazon. Get the ones with little wire tails so you can just crimp them onto a wire that you connect to the 12v circuit. They can be a bugger to solder direct as you end up melting the plastic. I usually just Tee into the wire going to the cigar lighter as that is sized for the load. Although we are lucky on Fair Isle as the wires are oversized and now we've got all LED lighting in lighting circuits designed dozens of filament bulbs the lighting ringmain is plenty man enough for some XT60's or USB additions, just be a bit careful on modern boats.
The benefit is a proper connector! The cigar lighter sockets are flaky at best and it you try running something that draws over about 8A for any lenght of time they will get hot and if there's any corrosion, which there will be on a boat, it will get very hot and melt. The XT60 is rated at 60A so all those DC chargers (like the one that came with our eProp outboard battery) that are designed to pull 10A would be much better off with an XT60
Thank you
Don't know your channels demographics... but you might want to explain the whole 'cigar lighter' situation thing to a fair share of your viewers.
Okay, where are you from and what do you call it?
Try Google (cigar lighter socket = DC connector)😉. This is a familiar description for me.
@@svfairisle I thought cars don't have those anymore... the outlets still, but not the bit you push in and wait to jump back out again, all glowing, to actually light a fag... or do they? I expected people from a certain age on down, not to know those anymore.
No cars don't tend to have the actual lighter, just the socket. That because manufactures started to make accessories that got power from cigar lighter sockets and they just stuck even though they are a terrible design. I think finally we might move over to USBC being the socket you find everywhere.
Cigarettes Steve, I never smoked cigars in my car, I'm trying to picture you with a chest wig in your souped up car with the super wide wheels, so it was you in those adverts.
