I'm looking to go into college for family law, are there any resources that you could give me to get ahead of the curve?

That’s awesome! You can reach out to our law library staff at: Ilpublic@fortbend.lib.tx.us, or call 281-341-3718, and they will be able to assist you in finding the best resources. 😊

How would you get a district court case to a higher court?

Sean, you would need to appeal that case to a court of appeals (if it is a Civil case. For us in the Houston area it is the 1st or the 14th Court of Appeals downtown) or you could appeal it to the Court of Criminal Appeals if it is criminal. Criminal issue would be something typically handled by an attorney. If your case is Civil, we have resources to explain how to do a formal appeal at the Law Library.
