Thinking about offering employee equity? I recorded this video to help you figure out the right team structure, equity percentage and vesting schedule for your startup. Check it out!
Thanks for this great video... it's going on my Greatest Hits UA-cam list. I formed a Delaware Corporation last week mainly based on your recommendation from your previous video. Y Combinator's Startup School starts today. An exciting time to be an Entrepreneurial CEO who knows how to code. But now it's time to build a team. I treasure your advice. Thank you!
Hi Dan can you explain how to entice at 7:00 the employee to take ownership without being an actual shareholder until the first round? The initial round is basically saying we have no money to pay you, you arent buying ownership, youre working for free until the first round, and then youll get equity... I guess it would be through a seasoned lawyer setting up such a company. Thats alot of money right there. But this type of arrangement should be expounded upon in future videos.
This is exactly what I was looking for as my team and I are about to talk about that in the morning!! Perfect timing!! Thx again!! Your New Caledonia fan!! Caroline 😉
Thanks for the informative video Dan, I've often wondered about carving out an equity pool and how much should be allowed. I suppose the range might be different for different types of companies (like manufacturing as opposed to IT).

I'm not sure it would change much on industry if the venture is high risk and people are getting involved early when there's little revenue.
Nice and informative video!
Thx Waleagro
