Metallica - "Phantom Lord" (Bass Cover)

- Опубліковано 9 тра 2022
- 30 years ago, I started on this epic journey called Bass Guitar. Back then Cliff Burton was my mentor, my reference for what I wanted to achieve and strive for as a bass player. I’d watch “Cliff ‘Em All” non-stop, soaking it all in.
Up to this day, he is an integral part of my musical DNA, hoping to make him proud.
As an interesting milestone, I’ve been invited to play at the Cliff Burton Museum inaugural event in Sweden on May 14th, 2022. It’ll certainly be an emotional ride being there.
Bass: Rickenbacker 4001, 1979 Burgundyglo with Cliff Burton mods (70s Gibson Mudbucker in neck, Seymour Duncan hot stack Jazz in bridge, Seymour Duncan hot stack Strat under bridge activated by bridge tone knob pull
switch)
Tuning: Standard
I'm so happy you mentioned Cliff as being the reason why you wanted to play bass. I thought by all the covers you made you had maybe other influences, anyway nice you just chose him as your reference, just as the impact James and Kirk made to me since the beginning of my journey, as well. Sometimes people underestimate Metallica, downplaying their music as "hard rock" or whatever. They obviously don't even know that behind each song there's a whole history made of relatable experiences, inspired writing and arrangements and kickass instruments and amps. Maybe they were regarded as the biggest metal band even in the early days!
You’ve gotta give credit when it’s due… and for me Cliff and Metallica are it. Not everyone will share our views. Keeping an open mind always helps 🤘🏻
Cthulhu,
So funny you say that. When this album dropped, the only people that were listening to it was me and my best buddy, and most everyone would scrunch up their noses and say “ew, what the hell is that?”
We brought our school metal heads on line with Metallica!🤘🏻🤣🤯
@@kellogci imagine it was quite a satisfying moment getting your hands on that red ricky then
Ya know what Kello? I have been going through each album learning (almost) every song. I skipped this one, Whiplash and No Remorse. Then on RTL Escape (lol) and skipped no songs on MoP. Well, this video has convinced me that I SHOULD learn Phantom Lord. 🤘
Why did you skipped those particular songs?
@@HeavyRaiden I'm not exactly sure. I remember I didn't listen to them much. Even today, I have certain songs I like that I will listen to in a certain order. This here is a perfect example of how that could potentially limit me because they're both great songs.
🤘🏻🤩🤘🏻
@@kellogc been paying it almost daily in my routine since. 🤘
It’s amazing you’ve been invited to the opening of the Cliff museum - massive congratulations. And thanks for putting these video up - always learning something and just appreciating your skill and dedication.
Thanks a lot 👊🏻
Would love seeing you collab with other UA-cam bassists just to get your numbers up, you deserve it. No ads, no BS and almost 100k, wow.
Thank you. Much appreciated. I’m all up for any cool collaborations 👊🏻
Congrats on playing at the Cliff Burton Museum!!!!! It gave me goose bumps reading that. Cliff wrote one of my favorite Metallica songs, Orion.
Thank you very much 🤘🏻
Another excellent song choice and you slayed it as always. Huge huge congrats on the invite to play at the Cliff Burton Museum event in Sweden. Nobody deserves it more than you and I have no doubt it will be an epic experience for you. How I would love to be there to see it. Much love to you Kello ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Thank you 🤘🏻
This was the first Record when i was a newcomer as a young guitarist and coul´d played along with, when it came out...🙏
And never really think of what Cliff was playing on the Bass, just think he just was playing along with the Guitar the hole time..
This give the song another perspective for me 40 years later..
It´s the small things that you may not hear that makes some things big..
Was preaperd for the Consert when the accident happened, and i´ll never forgett the sorrow me and my friends felt.(me myself went totaly crazy and destroyed my own room at home) Thank God i had an understanding Mother.(💖✝)

Kello you are a badass. Cliff would be proud!
Thank you very much 👊🏻
Wow, this bass sounds next level... With flatwounds you would sound 100% like Cliff on KEA :D
Also, nice to see that the master is back! 🤘🏻🔥
Didn't know he used flatwounds
@@danplaysguitar6706 I think just on Kill em All he did
He had like year old strings not flatwounds lmao
@@ITTAPUPU12 Okey, but he would sound like him with flatwounds lol
@@merciless2032 yeah i guess so

BRO!
Just saw the short of you playing at the new Cliff Burton Museum.
(Didn’t know anything about it)
I know it’s not your usual format, but it would be awesome if you did a quick video tell us about that whole experience. 🤘🏻
I’ll see what I do! It was definitely an awesome experience 🙌🏻
YEAHHHH \m/
🤘🏻☺️🤘🏻
Good bass playing as well as the tone
Thanks 👊🏻
Woo hoo, Kello's back!!!

I have never seen such a perfect cover of this music like that!
Cliff it's proud of you!
Good Bass Cover good Job 👍
Thank you 🤘🏻
Dichoso rickenbacker del gran album kill em all muy buen trabajo 🎸🎼
Muchas gracias 🤘🏻😉
I'm impressed and inspired. Very smooth playing. I play in that same way, anchored thumb. The way you use your first two fingers for up and down strokes like picks, for some relaxed speed is something I will have to focus on. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much 🤘🏻
Grande Kello como siempre , haciendo rugir ese Rickenbacker!!!
Muchas gracias 👊🏻
🔥🎸
🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻

Kello!! That is awesome news, man! I sure hope we get to see some footage of that.
Crushed it as always - and the 4001 was a very nice touch. Keep rockin' big man.
Thank you 🤘🏻
Where’d you get that bass, that is killer and I’ve always wanted one with Cliffs setup on it
I found it in Reverb! 🤘🏻🙃🤘🏻
Orgullo Mexa!

My favorite Metallica song. Thanks for uploading!!!!!!
Thanks 🤘🏻
Nailed it Kello..top job man. 👏
Thank you very much 👊🏻
Nice to see you shredding again my friend. Must be a busy man these days, but considering your skills Im not surprised. Not many people can play stuff like Primus and Rush and make it look so easy, not to mention your own music. The stuff you do on the Parazit albums is bad ass! 🤘😝🤘
Thanks a lot 👊🏻
@@kellogc You have earned it brother.
YEAAHHHH 🤟🏻😆
Thanks 🤘🏻
Muito, muito bom!
Thanks 👊🏻
Grande, muy grande. MAESTRO¡ 🇪🇸

So good to see and hear you again Kello, it's been a while, I was getting worried about you.

Love the sound of a "Ricky". Fender has the comfort carve, not a fan of sharp edge basses. Which bass do you like for long gigs?
Carl Thompson basses are my favorite 👊🏻
Ese bajo es precioso men, y como siempre el Kello que no sabe decepcionar cuando de ejecutar se trata. 100% en hard mode.
Muchas gracias 🤘🏻
Fuck yeah dude. Rare to see fellow bass player play so good. Nice basses is that a dobro bass? Behind you?
Thank you. It’s not a Dobro (brand) but it is a Resonator Bass. Pretty fun to play 👊🏻
@@kellogc that’s what i meant. I call all resonators Dobro even know i know its not the right terminology. I have always wanted a resonator guitar or bass either one.
Were you using the strat pickup here? Also is it encorporated into the ric-o-sound somehow or is the bass just mono now? Great video as always, very interesting tone in any case.
Bass is mono. I didn’t use the start pickup on this one 🤘🏻
i need to hear you play whiplash! please!?
Me too! 👊🏻
Is that a mudbucker pick-up in the neck like cliff's rickenbacker ??? And the tone is so similar to the album
That is correct 😉
Roloon lml
🤘🏻😉🤘🏻
Hey Kello, your hands seem massive, how big are they?
They’re not small, but I wouldn’t say massive. I’m 6’ 1. 🤘🏻😉
what pedal did you use for dirt?
A Big Muff (in my Line6 Helix)
Hi. What pedals are you using ? What is the pedal used on the intro of this song ? Thanks.
Hi. What amp are you using? Whats the brand of strings that you are using? Thanks
Fat sound brother!
Thanks 👊🏻
Interesante lo pastoso que suena.
👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Bro, do you have the tab?????? 😿
No, but you can check in songster.com 😉🤘🏻
So many influences for me to mention all of them but cliff Burton, Tom arraya slayer, rushes Bass player and all of the punk rock bass players
👊🏻🤩
