Beautiful video Maayan, thank you for sharing these beautiful ladies' stories. It's so sad that these predjudices still exist. Multicultural families should enrich us, not divide us!
I was just thinking to myself, this morning, that what I really miss in your channel is stories about the people around you. You have really good story-telling abilities and there are so many interesting people out there. So thank you for this 🌺🙏🏻
On my channel there are many stories about other people btw. Just lately I wasn't really in the mood to go out and "find" stories. Have you seen this one already, one of my best ever: ua-cam.com/video/2DQxF9t92PY/v-deo.html
Thank you for sharing your stories, ladies. It's not always easy to discuss such personal matters on camera. Appreciate the straightforward answers. No matter what we look like, there will always be shallow and judgemental people who find some imperfections. Fortunately, there are plenty of folks that read hearts and minds rather than appearances. Enjoyed the summary also, the fact that both ladies are now content to live in Thailand as adults.
Maayan, I loved this interview. It was very interesting and touching to hear these young ladies life experiences. Pretty ladies. It sounds like time (age) and experience has brought them acceptance. I hope you can follow up with them, especially if they decide to date/marry a Thai fellow. lol Thanks, I'd love to see more interviews like this. See you next week. PS. Please tell Mon I am obsessed with cooking Pad Thai. I've made it 4 times now and each time it tastes better. I love cold leftovers too.
Thank you so much! Welcome to our channel! Have you watched this one: ua-cam.com/video/0qjG3f3O8j4/v-deo.htmlsi=L2Tn5od8blnDmpiZ It's a great story about a really talented half Thai young man.
A very nice episode! Congratulations Mayyan 🎉🎉🎉 It Uniquely pointed out the worries and troubles of a mix ethnical grown up person’s mind. This world needs tolerance and so as the people living in it
I love the stories that you share through your channel, Mayaan. ❤ Growing up can already be a difficult experience, but then with those like the Luk Kreung, there's also the "tug of war" pull of competing Eastern-Western cultures, expectations, assumptions, and bias. It was fascinating to learn of Panisa and Claire's experiences, and their evolving shifts in perspective as they progressed from their childhood to adulthood. It is such a gift that they have the support of one another to help them to navigate through it all. So gratifying to learn too that they seem so content now with where life has brought them and are at peace with their unique and beautiful heritages.
Very well enjoyed, Maayan 🙌. Two friends, two diversities & much down-to-earth laid back ladies‼️. Heartfelt shares individually of growing up in different cultures & their views of how it felt. It all came through very natural from each -- ✌️☮️
You are a such a great interviewer, always asking good questions with insight and then giving the subject room to answer. Editing is on point too. Loved the cut away shot of the dog (Diva?) meandering thru the water. Always look forward to your videos. Thanks for posting!
Beautiful story and so interesting.... intriguing.... Thank you for sharing it with us.... Yes would like to hear more stories like this...❤ Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
I lived this episode. Being half of one culture and half of another can be difficult as a child, especially as a teenager. At the end you have to find "your people" where you fit in. I also struggled with that as a teen. Now I call myself a hybrid. You extract the best of each culture. Maybe Mayaan and Mon also found themselves because they were also "different" in their surroundings growing up.
Yeah times are changing now, there are more and more "hybrids" and we also know how amazing it is to be hybrid and how much more you actually gain. And very true regarding what you say about me and Mon ❤❤❤
@@SweetLifeLanta Being "hybrid" ourselves, we need to teach our children to feel good as hybrids especially while going through puberty, as they will probably also struggle to find their identity
What a wonderful interview...girls so charming and happy together. Actually only luk-krungs could provide you with such an open conversation . It looks like you just found them on the beach. Glad you did.
Wow Maayan, thats a very interesting them, the two ladies are very open hearted with their stories, it is for all mixed children & adults important to listen carefully. I can share many of their feelings to be strange and uncomfortable in some groups. I am half Italian and they called us "i tedeschi " = the germans. Thanks to the lovely ladies & you Maayan, for great interview ! 🙏 💘👍👍
Thank-you Mayaan, with every video that you post, I learn! You always give those you interview the space to tell their stories. I truly appreciate your interviewing style! Much love to you, Mon & your little ones!❤️🇨🇦
@@SweetLifeLanta ha! I have spent sometime thinking about it. If this invitation still stands, I would be open to an interview. Maybe it could help other people feel less alone.
Thank so much you for making these videos. As a luk khrueng teen growing up in Norway, your videos are so helpful, and make me feel better about being luk krueng
Another awesome video Mayan! The girls sure have nothing to worry about now….they have the rest of their lives ahead of the & they seem to have a good head on their shoulders:) Thanks for sharing this vlog😊
Great episode ❤ i found it super interesting that the tatoo artist said she finds the is more freedom and opportunity in Thailand than in California, because most ppl i know who move to Cali do it for opportunities and freedom 😅 I also live in Asia and can only confirm ig is much easier to start sth here than in Europe and all over much more relaxed (of course it has its downside too) ❤
Totally, and the world is continuously changing too, right. Maybe 20 years ago California WAS a place of great opportunities but if everyone grabs them it starts to be more difficult and we need to find new places. And of course our perception of opportunities is changing too right. We might settle for less money but more quality time.
@SweetLifeLanta I live in America. I feel more comfortable in America. More people have come from a blended background. It's been a very long journey of different feelings about this throughout my life. Once I became more accepting of who I am, life is easier. I have family members who are full Thai who were born in America and had their own struggles of identity while they were going up.
@@eileenmorris-duke6040 yeah I can imagine. I feel that for me, being not Thai, I feel more accepted in Thailand than someone who is Thai but doesn't "follow" the Thai way, or is not entirely Thai in looks or behavior, like Mon for example and you maybe too.
It’s a nice interview💖😊 And the subject is quite delicate. But they will find out, one day, how exotic and interesting they are, being a double culture human being🌿🌻 Thanks Mayan💖
Loved this interview! Very insightful! My country has its issues but for the most part its a melting pot and were all the same citizens under the same flag. Its interesting that in Asia, being different or not being "Full" and just "half" is something that ppl really point out your whole life and treat you differently because of it. I cant wrap my head around it. If theyre thai and they were born in thailand, speak thai and live in thailand, THEYRE THAI! thats all there should be to it in my opinion. I dont agree that they should be made to feel like a foreigner in their own country their entire lives.
Maayan, what are those bungalows in the background, what is the name? Ps: very interesting topic. It is sad how people can judge and leave trauma in people.
These are the bungalows behind our favorite beach bar called Devy Ale. I think they are not operating as a hotel yet. But if you come to koh lanta, you will find many nice beach bungalows!
Hahaha your dog ( Luna? ) decided to photobomb while you were interviewing with Panisa. I find they both relate very deeply about their childhood and growing up in Thailand and US/UK. They are Thai with the privilege that they can experience another culture in another country thus giving them added knowledge and exposure. Their choice to ultimately live in Thailand and not abroad debunk the long time beliefs that many had about Western 1st world countries superiorities. Ultimately it’s tranquility, peace, space, people, and the fresh air of mountains and beaches ( like Ko Lanta, pun intended 😂 😆 😝 ) wins.
Hahaha Douglasn yep, that was the naughty and very sweet Diva (although she could have definitely been a Luna, I love that name). And agree with everything you say about Western countries vs the "less developed" countries. I think we enter a new paradigm of thinking about the world around us and what we need to make us happy.
Wonderful content which I enjoyed very much! ❤ Only a little detail if I may say this, I found the cuts between their stories in the beginning too quick, meaning a bit hard to follow who lived where for how long... because it was going back and forth between them so quickly.
I am half English and half Chinese. I’m 55 years old this year. Growing up in Singapore in the 70s as a half and half was not easy. There weren’t many half n halves around. School was torture, I remember being looked at like an alien in the beginning. Kids did taunt and made rude comments…. I hated school for that. People outside of school didn’t know what to make of me either. My brother and I coped in different ways, I retreated to books and reading while brother fought back. Of course over the years, more like me became a norm and as adults it became better. I am proud of who I am and my mixed heritage. I am proud that I can slide in and out of either one. I am blessed that I have 2 cultures which gives me a better advantage in my life. I feel that it will eventually be a world where most people will be mixed anyway, it will happen. I enjoyed this video as it resonates with me. To all the half and halves out there, don’t let those nasty people get you down, they are the ignorant ones. Be proud of both sides of your parents’ culture and heritage, both are equally important. ❤
When they speak Thai language, the locals will think, "oh you learned the Thai language", "your Thai is really good". But, when they just speak English with them in a Thai accent as long as they live in Thai, then everybody will see them as completely 100% Thai. I guess, speaking with an accent still be a great factor to see people. This is just my opinion as a native Indonesian. My opinion might be wrong, but, I hope I can give something insightful thing on behalf natives of a country.
I from the caribean colombian.i am a mixed of afrocolombians, Spaniard and native American. My skin color is tanned.....at this point I say I am from here and there......I live in georgia in the USA since 2000....Wow Mayan, you are a great interviewer....Best regards. To you and yours....
my half thai daughters grew up in the us. my late wife and i spoke english at home so they only observed thai culture through their mom. though we tried thai language, at around 5 years old., they resisted fiercely. i wish we had been more resolute. they are certainly proud of their thai roots but modern cultural obsessions with identity boxes are confusing and difficult. i like how these lovely ladies are just wonderful humans trying to live and navigate the world. if they were my daughters, i would be very proud of them. well done maya.
I think it also depends on what kind of mix. Being half thai and half black/white VS half thai and half of anything from specifically east and southeast asia. I come from thailand, but from a Thai and chinese ethnic mixed family here. Only 1 is half white/european (italian). While my half italian cousin faced a lot of discrimination etc on both sides, none of my several cousins , who are Half Thai half Chinese never faced any issues in thailand. All of them have the Thai citizenship, but only my half italian cousins looks clearly different as she has stronger south。european features (face). I know in some countries this (speaking of half thai half chinese) would not be considered as mixed, but its still 2 different Asian backrounds. Maybe it really is a factor when you just dont look full east/southeast asian. I grew up with thai ,vietnamese and few thai/chinese and several half white mixed people (outside of Asia), if there were any weard or negative stories etc to tell about racism, discrimination or similar , it was from half asians. Im sure any kind of ethnic mix can face that , but from what i mainly personally hear about its coming from half asian people. So thats why it feels like, to me, that the half asians face at least more of the negative stuff than those, who are stilll full asian but of 2 different ethnicitiys. Also, the ladyboy and prost*tition stereotypes from outside ppl were always quite annoying to me. Have been asked the ladyboy thing before too.
As a (60 yr old) Caucasian female from South Africa I also felt free when I went to work/live in Asia for almost 10 yrs. In my home country I have experienced Afrikaans people as very hard-hearted and narci$$i$tic (terribly judgmental and jealous) people who only care for money and status. It was a very freeing experience to live close to nature and people who are more open-minded and kind. I always knew there has to be better. And I found it in a few Asian countries. I almost had an out of body experience, as the effect was so strong on my body when I perceived true peace for the first time.
I started to watch your videos because of the multicultural relationship, because my companion is american and I'mtahitian, yet as I watch the testimonials of your guests, I tend to understand how "half" people feel in my country... being from Tahiti, we can't say that there are still "full originals" anymore, but I never felt half tahitian since my parents and grandparents were Polynesians and their foreign origins coming from ancestors... I felt the blemish of being tahitian and look tahitian in school or work, but with your videos I can only confirm how similar we all are and we just want to be happy and get to know who we are for ourselves more than for others. So thank you for this new interesting video....❤
@@SweetLifeLanta Neoo0088 says your kids are exactly like hers in the sense they are half Pattani Malay / Thai / Dutch. Beautiful story and very personal. It really moved me. Specially the story about being bullied as a child because you are different. Thank you so much for making this video and a huge thank you to both pretty young ladies for sharing their story ❤ I like love stories very much. How people met each other and fell in love. Mooi zeg! I didn't realize that girls their age are still experiencing this in Thailand? All my Look Krueng friends (they have been living in Bangkok since a young age and grew up here and are now in their 50s) never had any problem, in fact, they are quite celebrated!
I think it's mostly about their childhood when they felt not belonging. Now they are grown up they don't experience that kind of discrimination anymore.
Amazing! I find that mixed folks are always the most open-minded which makes sense given that their parents got with folks from toally differemt cultures.. they're never ones to carryon traditions of superstitions etc if that makes any sense!
I found this so interesting, and pertinant like you being parents to luk khrung! Does any of the issues raised resonate with you and your kids yet? Different for us as we're raising ours in the UK, which like they said is so multi-cultural. Great vid 👌 ❤
I totally can relate to this. Even I am Thai but I left Thailand when I was 10. For me I might look Thai but I don’t feel that I am fit in here or where I live. It’s kind weird… Is nice to see someone else that also feel this way. I am still trying to figure out what am I exactly.
dear Maayan as you know i love your videos and the art of videography you and Mon make.... this time the jumping between the two ladies was very confusing to me. I want to get a feeling for someone and this didn`t work this time.... lots of love from Germany
I was adopted from Thailand by white Swedish parents and I grew up in Sweden, feeling like a backwards farang, as I don't speak Thai. I was adopted when I was 6 weeks old. Thais do think I'm half Thai though.
Wow that is so interesting. Much have been really tough growing up like this. Where do you live now? Do you travel to Thailand sometimes? I from the caribean colombian.i am a mixed of afrocolombians, Spaniard and native American. My skin color is tanned.....at this point I say I am from here and there......I live in georgia in the USA since 2000....Wow Mayan, you are a great interviewer....Best regards. To you and yours....
Thanks so much. If you ask me, mix is the best ❤❤❤
my half thai daughters grew up in the us. my late wife and i spoke english at home so they only observed thai culture through their mom. though we tried thai language, at around 5 years old., they resisted fiercely. i wish we had been more resolute. they are certainly proud of their thai roots but modern cultural obsessions with identity boxes are confusing and difficult. i like how these lovely ladies are just wonderful humans trying to live and navigate the world. if they were my daughters, i would be very proud of them. well done maya.
Beautiful ❤❤❤
exactly hurt people hurt people
Maayan your a beautiful interviewer
Thank you! That's so kind of you to say ❤
ฟังอาจไม่รู้เรื่องมาก แต่ได้ฟังเพื่อฝึกภาษาอังกฤษมันดีต่อใจครับเจ๊มายัน It can not understand what she said, but just listen her it good for my mind.
Try turning on the CC in Thai then you can understand most of it.
@@SweetLifeLanta ขอบคุณมากครับ จารย์ Thanks.
I think it also depends on what kind of mix. Being half thai and half black/white VS half thai and half of anything from specifically east and southeast asia.
I come from thailand, but from a Thai and chinese ethnic mixed family here. Only 1 is half white/european (italian).
While my half italian cousin faced a lot of discrimination etc on both sides, none of my several cousins , who are
Half Thai half Chinese never faced any issues in thailand.
Thanks so much for sharing. ❤️❤️❤️
Wow what an amazing beauty in your comment. Mon and me said 'wow' at the same time and then were silent for a while.
Nice video. Cheers guys. 😁
Cheers Steven!
Beautiful! Thanks!
Very interesting. Have a great weekend. ❤🙏🏼💞💞💞💞
Your kids is exactly like me. Half Pattani Malay/ Thai /Dutch❤
Maayan, your kids are exactly like mine. Half boy and the other half is girl 😂 😆 😝
@@UncleDougDelihahaha
What what what?? Tell me more please? Both me and Mon are curious!
@@SweetLifeLanta Neoo0088 says your kids are exactly like hers in the sense they are half Pattani Malay / Thai / Dutch. I wanted to say that your kids are also exactly like mine but not in race or nationality but in sex as you have Manu and Mili, a boy and a girl. ( I wanted to give you the impression I also have a boy-Shawn and a girl-Sandy but in truth I have a girl and 2 boys-Schubert ). Hahaha I am a playful and young in heart person.
So interesting!!!
❤Very interesting topic as I mixed kid (African American and Irish ☘️ American 🇺🇸) I can relate on so many levels ❤
Thanks so much for watching! I'm so happy it resonates with you.
Beautiful story and very personal. It really moved me. Specially the story about being bullied as a child because you are different. Thank you so much for making this video and a huge thank you to both pretty young ladies for sharing their story ❤ I like love stories very much. How people met each other and fell in love. How they cope with a different background and culture. LHBTIQ+ stories. Is being gay accepted? Also like travel stories and animal stories. Special bond between human and their pets. Do they have pets on the island? How do they treat animals in general? Have a great day! Greetings from Amsterdam 🇳🇱

Yeah, soon we will make a video about the parents' side. So how we feel as parents of half Thai kids.
I totally can relate to this. Even I am Thai but I left Thailand when I was 10. For me I might look Thai but I don’t feel that I am fit in here or where I live. It’s kind weird… Is nice to see someone else that also feel this way. I am still trying to figure out what am I exactly.
I understand! ❤️❤️❤️
👋 Hi you guys
My kids are luk kreungs. Ethnically Thai (and whatever) /white British and culturally and language Swedish /English
nice nice
dear Maayan as you know i love your videos and the art of videography you and Mon make.... this time the jumping between the two ladies was very confusing to me. I want to get a feeling for someone and this didn`t work this time.... lots of love from Germany
Thanks so much for your constructive feedback ❤❤❤
Great Jon Mayan
I was adopted from Thailand by white Swedish parents and I grew up in Sweden, feeling like a backwards farang, as I don't speak Thai. I was adopted when I was 6 weeks old. Thais do think I'm half Thai though.
Wow that is so interesting. Much have been really tough growing up like this. Where do you live now? Do you travel to Thailand sometimes? I definitely have some tips about learning Thai but it really works much better if you have some time to spend in Thailand. In the meantime, feel free to watch my videos about learning Thai:

There are many great resources about learning Thai on UA-cam and some excellent Thai teachers too.
@@SweetLifeLanta Khup khun ka. I live in England now. I've got a few luk kreung friends, teaching me and no, I haven't been to Thailand
@@Darkangel-A-c8z would be great to see you here one day. It's such a wonderful place.
@@SweetLifeLanta as a child growing up, I was never interested. I was like, I'm Swedish. Now as an adult, however, it would be fun to go. I tried Pad Thai a few weeks ago and it was really lovely. I don't like spicy food. I'll try and save up to visit Bangkok.
❤
My oldest is looked upon as being fully white and my youngest looks more like me. Do I look fully Thai or half, please.
Please, do you have any tips on learning how to speak Thai please?
I answered your question on another comment.
To me they both look like 100%Thai. People might know when they talk though.

Hi. How are you?
7:34 Wonder if she has to pay foreigner prices in Thailand or if she has to show her brith certificate from them to believe her?
Haha... maybe she will read your comment and answer ❤
They just looks common Thai people..
I think most half’s will feel the same way. For me I am too thai for westerners and too western for thai’s. 😂
בוקר טוב😊
בוקר אור חמודה!
That’s sad they were made to feel that way we are all human we all came to exist by god and only god can judge us
Don't worry about your background. All you need to know is we all humans, not color like bruce Lee, say under the sky and haven we are one family
I think it’s better to let one person finish her story and star another one, Or it’s too messy
Thanks for your feedback.
Maybe share like opposite end of the stories, as their always pro and cons n everything but yes, best part of your vlog are the stories of people Lifes.
Next week, parents of half Thai kids talking...
