      I don't know what he meant but he doesn't call any one else "boy", and the use of the word was typical of white people toward black men. I was alive at the time of this broadcast and that is how it was. These days no one that I know would use the term "boy" with any adult male as a part of normal speech.

    • @TruckTaxiMoveIt
      @TruckTaxiMoveIt 6 років тому +1

      I too was surprise; but as was mentioned earlier in these comments it wasn't something that was done with any other adult males So although it might have been said without malice it should have been removed in editing (obviously recorded for future use).

    I like Ossie Davis's appearance. His voice, his pronunciation of "3" So few black celebrities on TV game shows in 1963, or commercials or news...practically zero. But with the Civil Rights Movement, things were starting to change, if slowly.

    • @jonvater8424
      @jonvater8424 6 років тому +2

      I also noted his pronunciation of "3!" And there was a moment in game 3 in which Kitty reached lover and put her hand on his arm as a show of affection. In 1964 that could still raise eyebrows in some corners.

    That "smelliest substance' discussed by the Guinness man, methyl mercaptan, is used for many things such as in making plastics. The smell may be familiar to many of us: it is added to natural gas (which is otherwise odorless) so its smell will alert us to a gas leak.

    Did anyone else notice that Bud Collier at the end of his conversation with Ossie Davis referred to him as "boy"? I believe Mr. Davis noticed that, there seemed to be a change in his response back. I know it was the sign of the times but this ignorance of change had to change, I wonder if the panel or Bud Collier realized this after the show.

    Peggy Cass seems to say "thank you" after just about every reply from a panelist. It slows her down in asking questions, plus it's just not necessary to say all the time. I find it strange that she does this because she didn't do that in the syndicated version that Garry Moore hosted, which is the one that I grew up watching.
