PATTI AUSTIN It's Gonna Be Special EXTENDED

Another great dance hit from 1983/84 and one that has always had a special place in my heart. Patti Austin's self titled LP recorded in '83 and released in the March of the following year, yielded this fab R&B/Funk melange 'It's Gonna Be Special' and it is indeed special. Already a veteran of nearly 2 decades by this point, the eponymously titled opus had a galaxy of composers and producers that were the alumni of the times - Narada Michael Walden, Cliff Magness, Glen Ballard (the last two wrote this catchy song) and the grand poo-bah of the industry - the mighty Quincy Jones. This song gained more profile by being included on the movie soundtrack for Olivia Newton John & John Travolta's 'Two Of A Kind' and for me, I discovered it on the TV show 'Solid Gold' where I recall Patti performing it. A similarly enamored youtuber evidently enjoyed this performance and uploaded it and i have used it here along with some rare behind the scenes footage of Patti and Quincy and others in the studio. This extended version is pretty rare and feel really blessed to have it - it is such a feel good track, but not entirely representative of the remarkably diverse career that Ms Austin has carved out for herself - straddling jazz, pop, R&B, funk and disco. One thing I know for sure, Patti Austin is special.
