Aww Patrick, you didn't find the 500 year old yew tree! Nice to see you back in Woolaston village after all these years! Here's to 25 years of the Solitary Rambler!!
Thank you, it was nice to be back after all these years! Where was that yew tree that I clearly missed then? Thanks for your kind comments and for watching :)
@@solitaryrambler You're welcome! It's in the Wye Valley really, or woolaston east wood. It's a monster and worth finding if you're down this way again. It's known as the ancient king yew. There's a good video of it somewhere on youtube
The english countryside is just wonderful to explore. The information you give is appreciated, I enjoy your channel seeing every nook and cranny as you walk along.........awesome. Your memories are priceless, melted kitkat, sadness of your parents breakup, happiness your birth, your grandys.
Another lovely walk and beautifully crafted film Patrick. Must have been a special walk for you with all those family connections. Thankyou for sharing, really enjoyed watching that. Pete.
I was particularly looking forward to shooting this due to the family background, although I had to be a bit careful when shooting the exterior of people's private homes then posting them online. I did manage to subtly get a few shots of the cottage in Alvington in which I lived with my parents, but I didn't highlight that in the film for the reasons I've mentioned above really. Thanks for watching and commenting Pete :)
*_Very nice relaxed video, great landscapes with beautiful views and views as well as many beautiful waypoints, I liked very much. Best regards from Germany, Angela_*
Just got back from a weekend break in Alvington while seeing Tom Jones perform live. Lovely little village. Blacksmith arms is a brilliant pub. A classic pub, old decor, friendly staff, pool table, darts and very cheap drinks (compared to Dorset pubs anyway)
Nice to know you stayed in Alvington Louie. I don't remember the Blacksmith Arms much as it's been a very long time since I went inside, and I didn't go there when I filmed this. Glad you enjoyed Alvington, all the best 👍
Well what a lovely way Patrick to find yourself back in your home town.....Once again a smashing walk with you ..Which we both really enjoyed as we always do ...bit off at the moment healthwise bad chest infection but it did me a power of good to spend this evening sharing your walk ...take care regards Frank and Lee....
I very much enjoyed filming this one because of where it was. Sorry to hear you're not too well Frank, do get better soon. As always Frank and Lee thank you for watching and for commenting. Cheers, Patrick 😀
Great upload. I don't know the area that well but I knew the Globe pub. I remember watching them all play cricket back in the 90's. Love the music too :)
Thanks for the great comments. I didn't actually go into the Globe pub on this occasion in the end, but it was recommended to me by some local people. Thanks again. Cheers, Patrick 😀
Thanks again for the update on your new walk with views across Severn estuary a view behold at an early start today. Thanks for your getting me up today.Ann a 👍 area to have li lived in the Severn estuary and with your family a great place thank again .
A nice return to the area of your earlier years of childhood, Patrick. You chose a lovely day weather-wise to visit, and I bet it was very nostalgic to go around the villages in this extremely beautiful part of the country. The junction at Seven View Road is interesting where there is a sign-post, letter box, information board and postal box all right next to one another. At the timing of 1:44, I couldn't make out what those pointed top cylindrical 'buildings' would be, looking out to the Severn estuary? By the way, the view over to the other shore is spectacular. The villages and the countryside are immaculate on this film, Patrick. I must not forget to say that the two old churches featured in this video look really splendid, also. Many thanks for a very grand production, like this.
Thanks for watching this Ffranc. I was back in this area again last month funnily enough, first time back since filming this in 2018. I've no idea what those cylindrical buildings were, on a farm by the look of it. Thanks again Ffranc, all the best 👍
I live nearby. They’re biodigesters at Plusterwine Farm. Slurry and plant matter are digested by bacteria, gas is given off, collected and used to generate electricity.
Wonderful video. I have only just discovered them, fantastic! Have you considered walking the villages by the Severn, Aylburton, Lydney, Blakeney, Newnham, Westbury on Severn? Awre is particularly a lovely hamlet. That’s a week’s walking Patrick. I’m now looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. 👍🏻
Many thanks again Glennis, much appreciated. If you get the chance, I recommend reading the notes on my website, which can be accessed if you follow the links on the homepage of this UA-cam channel. All the best 👍
Loved how scenic your walk was and what a beautiful summer we had too. Really nice places and shows that we do have lovely countryside here. Thanks for all your effort. I hope this channel gains more and more support, you deserve it, cheers.
Thank you Kelly, I am certainly hoping to gain more viewers and support, the subscribers are getting closer to 1,000 now, so that's promising! :) Thanks for your kind comments as always. Cheers, Patrick :)
have you been up to the king yew in east wood at the top of the woodland above severn view farm and woolaston slade? its amazing! theres also a lot of yews and structures after you get into the wood from severn view, on your right...
I can't recall I'm afraid, it was 6 years ago when I travelled down to Gloucestershire to film this walk. I do remember some great views on this route all the same 👍
My Grandmother lives there so I’ve been going all my life and never knew about the king yew up in east wood until a few years back! It’s HUGE! No signs for it at all so it’s a “if you know you know” sort of thing- but it’s epic! Makes me thing of all the history of the woodland area..
How perfect of a day was that? Luscious green country side, sunny and so peaceful!
Thanks Friend
William
Yes it was a lovely day from what I recall, thanks for watching 👍
A beautiful piece of filming Patrick accompanied by your lovely melancholic music. You are a multi-talented man!

Nice mid-winter reminder of warmer days, even if it was way too hot last summer for me. :-) Enjoyed the film and music. Thanks!
It was very hot this day if I recall correctly. Thanks for your great comments and for watching! :)
