@@frankfurter7260 I don't think the question was meant to be that simple. For instance, how would you back up? Facing forward and backpedaling, or turning around and running? And what if someone hit an excellent lob, and you didn't have time to set up for a smash? What's the best way to hit the ball if you are on the run backwards? Sounds like a video that goes into detail on topics like these is actually a good idea.
I understand strategic lobbing but I get actually aggravated(interally) when I play against people who constantly lob every time they get the ball or every other time. No matter how terribly it does for them, I just hate constantly having to run back for it
I often use the lob and I'm pretty good at it, let me tell you when is the best and worst for me to use the lob - when we dink and the ball is in front of me or from a drop that lands in front of me is pretty easy, from a drive or a dink that makes me stretch - like on my backhand and low bounce is very hard or impossible. So like everything else in pickleball - don't give me the opportunity and I won't do it.
I like your warnings at the end of the video. From what I've seen in rec play situations the lob is a low percentage shot where the risk is too high for the potential reward.
This is a nice video to watch because it confirms my mindset about how I've been incorporating lobs in my gameplay for many months now. During dink rallies, as a counter-reset which let's my partner and I get to the kitchen line and pull away at least one opponent from the kitchen to acquire positional advantage, and even I'm back-court or mid-court rushing to recover a ball that the opponent lightly taps over the net into the kitchen.
I am a new player to the game, and I have watched many of your videos now. You do a very good job of explaining your techniques, and I have learned a lot in a very short time. Thanks for everything you do.
Perfect timing! I was just wanting to add a lob into my game. Im a lefty and usually stack with my teammates, so my forehand is always in the middle. Do you think its better to take the longer route aiming for the corners (risk going sideline out) or just try to go up the middle between the two opponents.
I agree mostly with what you said! There are however circumstances where you must lob to get back into the rally! Always go crosscourt unless that player is really talented and can smash! Always target shorter or people that have no range! I tell my opponents if they both crowd the kitchen, accept the fact I'll be lobbing somewhere on them! Lobbing is very effective for numerous reasons! Number one, they may not get to it in time. Number two, if hit properly could knock them out of position. Number three, it's a fine setup shot for a much easier shot to the open area of the court! This shot must be perfect against younger higher ranked players! You must only use the shot when you see at least one player at the kitchen, and you target that corner baseline! The LOBSTER!!
I saw Anna Bright fall backwards going for a lob at the PPA in Austin. I noticed the more novice one is the better lobs. I was the same just starting out. I could get my lobs just at the back line.
been working on this recently. almost sent a lady to the hospital with one of my lobs on Wednesday, she ended up falling & hitting her head, thank goodness for those indoor court dividers that slowed down her fall 😅
Yeah, had a similar experience indoors but i placed a ball perfectly at my opponent's feet when they were coming in, caused them to step back, lose balance, fall, and then hit their head. Their whole body got stiff for a moment while they were on the floor. After being helped up, they were visible not coherent for a 5 min, but they managed to be ok.
As an older player I have great concerns about the increased use of lobs. Is this shot worth the safety issues that are very apparent? What ever happened to the third shot drive, drop, or combo?
It is part of the game. Should not be used against older player in rec play that might fall. It is about as fun as body bagging a 90 year old woman who is blind in one eye.
Like tagging , I realize that lopping is a legal part of the game but I think that it’s bad form in rec. play with folks that are over 50 and /or have mobility issues. A friend of mine that was 60 and a 4.0 player fell when retrieving a lob and died from the head injury. I will never use the lob again unless my opponent is under 20-30 and I am certain that they are aware of the risk of tracking down a lob and have been schooled on the technique for going so.
Now drew should never smash a dink dinking is warming up one time I hit a lob in the air on. A lod a I tolytial lost the ball then he smashed the ball back on me well two players should never be in the same place j💯so now your playing ping pong 🤔
Thanks for watching everyone! Really appreciate all the support.
😂
Could you make a video/ short that shows the best way to defend or retun the lob?

I recognize the beautiful Hilltop House in Temecula CA! I shot a pickleball video there myself a while back! 😊
I noticed the gorgeous views long before he mentioned it, and was wondering where he was. Truly a beautiful location!
Really good instructional video instruction

Sounds like a skill issue
here’s a thought: maybe don’t hit the ball to them? OR target them aggressively to make them rethink their strategy

@@alexhoang2599 I agree, but I would think people learn that if they keep doing something and it rarely works, stop doing it
@@Mewlolz they aren't thinking, it's just an instinct to always lob. And when both opponents do it, no way to avoid it

How timely. I'm working on this shot in my drills. Thank you!
💪
@@EnhancePickleball I'm ready to move to Temecula. Wow!!!

Appreciate that
Great job as always! Napa ?

Nice location and thanks for the lib tips!
Any time!
You should list where you shoot these location videos! So nice!
Great variety of tips.. thanks heaps.
I love this move! Helps if you already know the people you’re playing aren’t going to run back at the back line and hit it back!
wow! Where is this location?
Thanks for covering the question.
Thanks for your video's very helpful.
Glad you like them!

The Lob is the hardest but one of the most effective shots in PickleBall when executed properly

Can say this works against bangers. I unintentionally was lobbing in the kitchen and quickly realized how effective it is.
I'm a lob king on the court! The mini court looks awesome!
My dad lobs over and over again in thebflorida sun where I can barely see the ball looking up. I hate it. Trying to learn how I can do it to him ha
Santa Barbara?
How many lobs in a game you recommend?

extremely helpful thx i always use to lobs directly backwards now i know not to
Going to try this against the 70+ year old couple later today. Thank you for the tips!
Let me know how it goes!

Very effective especially if the 70+ has mobility issues. Only it's an empty win as far as I am concerned. I will avoid it in rec play.
Agree.
@@fernandozfrancisco6190 irony😁
I thought that most people teach that you should use your shoulder(not the wrist) when hitting the lob.
Tnx
Malibu hills or Temecula
Great video, but the CLOSED CAPTIONS that can’t be turned off are super annoying. Please reconsider :)

Good to go over a shorter player.
Or older people in open play 😂
It looks like about half of his lob demos from the kitchen were out lol....
Use the lob to take advantage of the sun and blind your opponents. My retinas are still burning from earlier...
Me trying to lob but setting them up to smash instead lol ok need more practice

Easiest lob is from the back of the court.
