Doom 64 was a sequel to Doom 2...whereas Doom 3 was a re-make of the story (much like how they re-made Wolfenstein, it isn't a sequel its a re-make); it took the story of Doom and Doom 2 and remade it. personally I love all Doom games and every version of them in their own ways they all deliver new and great things. Doom and Doom 2 were great (and they were both available in various mods such as Brutal Doom which only made them better), Doom 64 also had an improved version (the EX version though that is hard to find as Doom 64 was MEANT to be only for the N64 originally). and then of course there are various maps and expansions such as final doom and ultimate doom. Doom 3 has not only its classic edition but an improved edition too now...the Doom 3 BFG 9000 Edition (which includes Doom with all four chapters, Doom 2 with Hell on earth, no rest for the living and lost levels, Doom 3 with better graphics, extended story, Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil and Doom 3's Lost Mission levels.)
JAZZ HANDS and yet at the time it won scariest game of the year or something...it soon was beaten by something else mind you...but it did win that award. the BFG 9000 Edition of Doom 3 though is pretty awesome.
In the lore of DOOM, This is the final chapter for the Doom guy. It started off with DOOM, DOOM II, Final DOOM, then finally, DOOM 64, where the Doom guy at the end stays in hell for the rest of eternity.
I like to think of the new Doom as a continuation of where this game left off. The UAC finds Doomguy imprisoned in a sarcophagus locked inside a tomb deep within Hell and they bring it back to their labs to inspect it. They find his armor with it. There's a man inside who they cant seem to wake but he only appears to be sleeping, not dead. Well, a demonic invasion occurs, and finally he wakes, finds his armor and starts killing demons. The game is supposed to be a reboot but it just seems to fit thinking of it as continuing where this game left off. While he was in hell maybe the demons finally overcame him and locked/imprisoned him in that sarcophagus for eternity.
***** Oh here's the link :) twitter.com/romero/status/731274432325558273 Since it was supervised by them and approved, should still be worthwhile to play
Widely regarded by whom? When it was released at the time I remember nobody said it was the best doom. I agree it is more scary and dark, but it lacks the action feel of Doom 2.
ojideagu In the PC community Doom 2 wins for the sheer modability. Doom 64 in the Doom community is hailed as good if not the best. Doomworld has had numerous discussions on this topic. Owning all the games and having beat them, this is a much more satisfying Doom. The first levels are slow, but in the later levels you get plenty of action. Follow that up with the new boss, weapon and plenty of secrets, with that just perfect difficulty, and you have one of the best, if not the best Doom out there. Far surpassing Doom 3, matching Doom 2 in quality and fun. It is the best blend of scary from Doom 3 with action from Doom 2.
ojideagu When was IGN credible? They usually give COD games extremely high scores. They're retarded, I mean come on, their main complaint is that the game was "outdated". I disagree. The smooth controls and sprites of this game have aged way better than Goldeneye.
I believe the soundtrack is from Quake originally, regardless this is when they made DOOM a survival horror game, changing it at the last two DLC's for DOOM 3 and for the entirety of DOOM 2016
As someone who's first DOOM was the original shareware, I think what I disliked a lot about this game was the insane puzzles and crazy tricks! I feel it wasn't as obvious. Everything was out to crush and blow you up in DOOM 64. Watching you play these two levels blew my mind! This opens there, but that opens here.. ARGH! my brain.. Love your vids!
Nice vid wish I would've caught onto this channel before. I couldn't find any good play throughs of this game until I found this channel, liked and subbed
the improved graphics of Doom 64 makes it a good game IMO and the odd new enemy (no spoiler) a lot of people complain about the lack of possessed marines now but let's be honest...there should be more demons
my first doom was doom on the SNES, i remember my uncle first showing it to me and once i saw it, i was hooked. to this day, the doom series is number 1 on my list of awesome shooters
Great game play brother. Doom is easily in my top 5 gaming franchises and I think I have to agree that Doom 64 is my favorite installment! I will certainly have to check out the PC port of this because I never knew about that until now =)
PSX Doom was the first doom game I played everything about that game is perfect. It'll stay my all time favorite game forever. PSX doom, Doom64 and Doom 1 & 2 for the Xbox360 are the best Doom games ever.
Answer of the video! My first doom was the 64 one! This because when i plaid this i was only a child ans my brother had the n64 for cristhmas and i (how the little brothers do) used the game every time! (I'm so happy that you restarted this gameplay!)
my first doom game was also doom64 kuz wene my big bro moved out he left the game pak and i played it as far as i could. i love this seiries becouse tyrantking10 made me laugh for hours. LUV YA TYRANT KING!
i remember playing this when i was barely a teen. People in my class were arguing if Poke'mon or Digimon were best where as i was more. "Whatever those big ass monsters with rocket launchers for arms are scary as. And those demons that go invisible, them flying burning skulls, wow." It still holds up. I still play it and have a black book of passwords for every stage (both with high and low ammo/health) My own version of easy and insane mode.
I just purchased this game on Steam yesterday. It's almost time for me to finally conquer my first Doom game and first horror game that I've always been too afraid to play until now, or at least, until 2014, when I actually "played" my first horror game. If I had never started making my own videos, I never would have found the courage to even *try* playing horror games. The closest and pretty much *only* thing related to horror that I had ever played besides Doom 64 is Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
What a memories...I still remember when I was 7 ...I played Doom 64 for first time...Its actually pretty cool levels...The most I'm afraid of is creepy ambience, zombie & monster sound... I was about to turn off my Nintendo 64 lol....but I wish I could play again if I found my console... ;)
for the question of the video, the first doom i ever played was doom for the sega saturn, and my god was it horrendous. i LOVED it at the time though, it was all i ever played even though i was pretty shit at it, but i was around 5 so you cant reeeally blame me. i think what made me so attached to the series is that doom was one of the first games i ever played as a kid. i never REALLY knew why i love it so much. i now have doom on the pc, my phone, the gba, the sega saturn and i bought the bfg edition of doom 3 for the ps3 simply to be able to play the first two games. i have yet to play doom 64!
The main reason people probably don't talk about this one as much doesn't really revolve around it's quality, moreso the fact that it was released at the wrong time, on the wrong platform, with the wrong overall focus. Even moreso then than now, technology was a HUGE focus of games and especially the FPS genre. By 1997, Doom was viewed as an aging dinosaur and most fans of the genre were drooling over things like Quake II and Unreal. The Doom name could certainly draw attention, but it would be unlikely to cause a huge fuss unless it came packing with some new tech and was made by ID themselves. A game made on the same engine that only takes incremental steps forward wasn't going to cause much of a wave, and what little noise it did make was drowned out by the likes of GoldenEye and Turok - both of which pushed the N64s hardware far more and offered more changes to the overall FPS formula as well. Most of the audience for Doom 64 would be Doom fans, but even those were more limited on the consoles due to the franchises shaky history when it came to ports and the fact that most dyed in the wool Doom fans on PC had little interest in rushing out to buy an N64.
+Kaye Faye Spot on observation. It really was an overwhelming combination of such circumstances that led to this tucked away gem. It was a day one buy for me, I remember drooling the first time Doom 64 screenshots surfaced in Next-Gen magazine. The Pinky's were... purple... and AMAZING looking. I couldn't get over the z-buffering and smooth texture work on the sprites along with the excellent use of shadows in the first outdoor environments they showed. Ah.... the good ol' days....
+THEN3RV Haha, yeah, back in the day it was impressive just to be able to say "Holy crap.... THEY DON'T TURN TO UGLY PIXELS WHEN I GET UP CLOSE!" Though the irony is that pixel art tends to hold up better nowadays than the early 3D stuff. Doom 64 is certainly easier on the eyes in the modern day which is funny when you look at the fact it was considered lightyears behind the other stuff, but the sprite work was and still is kind of impressive. I love some of the re-designs too. Doom 64's pain elemental always creeped me out... This amazing fanart doesn't help that fact: goo.gl/TE2bbH
The re-designs were incredible. The pain elementals and cacodemons were absolutely brilliant. If I were to reboot DOOM now personally, I would have some elements of technology yes- but stick to that uneasy and obscure gothic architecture that worked so beautifully in the past. The new game looks amazing and I am extremely excited for it, but would have loved a little bit of that ominous and atmospheric tone that totally absorbed me. The PSX DOOM soundtrack is pretty much the most amazing atmospheric video game music of all time (also DOOM 64).
+THEN3RV The PSX/N64 Doom music is pretty good. At least for raw atmosphere. Though I think when it comes to atmospheric music I'm more partial to Yamaoka's work on Silent Hill. At least "Atmospheric music I'd actually listen to casually." Although for some weird reason, I actually find those tracks weirdly comforting. At least the ones I call the "Cold" tracks, the ones that are more surreal/melodic and meant to feel more cold and lonely than loud, clanging and jarring. I wish there were more dark ambient artists who were more like Yamaoka, finding a way to keep them atmospheric and chilling but actually meld melody to it. Though I can see why that's a hard balance since the amelodical and droning nature of dark ambient is meant to unsettle and confuse. Yeah, I know, I went off on a tangent but that happens. And yeah, with the re-designs I kind of wish that they'd keep a bit more of the gothic stuff as well. I am definitely glad that Doom 4 is going for a more fast paced kinda game than Doom 3, but I am mixed on them almost abandoning the horror stuff. At least keep it a little stronger in the designs. Though some of the hell environments are pretty cool, the Zdislaw Beksinski influence shows, even if I think they could go further with the Beksinski influence. A hell literally informed by his works would be legitimately pretty terrifying.
Midway's complaint about the project was that the N64 engine did not allow them sufficient resources to do everything they had anticipated and so were forced to cut out numerous monsters, levels, and multiplayer mode. I really liked the atmosphere and the clever puzzles of the game, it was a fun game to play as a kid in a different way than Goldeneye and Turok. I saw it as the FPS bridge to the new horror genre of that we saw in Resident Evil.
A long long time ago I can still remember how That game used to make me smile And I knew if he had a chance That tyrant could make those people binge And maybe they'd be happy for a while But doom 64 made me shiver With every comment I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step I can't remember if I cried When I saw that his channel died but Something touched me deep inside The day his channel died Bye, bye good old tyrantking bye Drove my jombie to the lobby but the lobby was dry watching all those nights drinking whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the episode he dies this'll be the episode he dies
I just wanted to check Doom 64 out of curiousity, but I got stuck on this video because the commentary is rather good! Which I can't say for most LP's I've seen.
This version have a good ambiance, but she lost black transparent demons, skeletons, chain gunners, arch viles, and Spider Masterminds -purple imps and last boss are not enough for compensate. The laser gun need 3 items for be fully upgraded (they are keys, too, for the last fight). Each one is hidden into a secret level. Reloading animations of shotgun / super shotgun suxx. Unique feature : in certains conditions, demons can spawn infinitely (if you activate the bad switch, for example).
Ah good memories! Too bad they didn't include multiplayer in this game. It's what made the original PC Doom my favorite version. Excellent let's play, it's like Vincent Price plays Doom 64!
my first Doom was the Playstation 1 port, which is mostly a stripped down version of the PC original, with a couple of new maps, but it uses the same sound effect and music assets as the N64 version.
My first DOOM game was DOOM 1 on SNES, My favorite DOOM game was DOOM 64. I kinda agree with you saying it's the black sheep all the doom games. My friend who enjoys the doom series didn't care for this one mainly because it didn't have the rock music like the PC version of DOOM had. This game didn't really scare me when I was a kid. Two games that terrified me when I was young was D and Resident Evil. Never could play RE until it was released on Gamecube. No more hell cow? Great video.
This was not my first Doom, but it's also my favorite doom! Best first Doom level ever. Best "finding the secret levels" ever. And best graphics of an "old" Doom ever. Yes, shooter-surival is a genre, like ZombiU.
I have the N64 version of this, but I never knew this got ported to PC! How do I go about getting this EX version and do I need anything extra to run it on a modern PC (I have Windows 8)?
Tyrantking10 - The one manly and skillful enough to take on Hectic just for the challenge. QOTV: My first Doom game ever was Doom 2. I got to know about the Doom series because of a Sonic fangame I used to play a lot years ago, which was made using Doom's engine. I decided to check the game out and I pretty much got hooked on the franchise. Awesome weapons, awesome enemies, awesome story, and the PC games even let you add custom features like new weapons and enemies. One of my favorite series.
Anyway, QOTV: My very first Doom game was the shareware version, quickly followed by the Doom 64 rom in an N64 Emulator program. Perhaps my favorite aspect of the doom series was the fact that everything was so simple, so easy to edit and remake, while the output (although rather primitive) had a great feel and awesome gameplay. Of course, the chaingun in Doom 64 sounded spectacular as well :D
Man, that was one of the first video games I ever played... Scared the bejeezus outta me (Not unlike what you said!) so I never got past the first level. Good to look back and see how dated the graphics look now! Thanks for the LP, mate.
QOTV- Ultimate Doom for PS1, It was the first game I ever played, and I immediatly loved it, it's what brought me into games. All of the Doom games are my favorite though, I think they all do it perfectly, I should probably pick up this one soon though and give it some more playthroughs.
my fav doom was the second...it was the first i played and it was the pc version, but alot of ppl say doom 2 pc version is the hard one....well i didnt had any problem with it even first time playin...oh and thanks tyrant for playin doom 64 i rlly enjoy ur vids of doom xD
My first Doom is Doom back when it came out as shareware. I liked it because it was something new for me and I was having a blast killing zombies and imps with a shotgun.
Doom 64 was my first game and definitely my favorite because it has a more scary atmosphere than the later games and it gives me a more nostalgic feel. I mean i played this game when i was little and this was literally the only game that was dark, had scary music, and creepy looking sprite monsters throughout the whole game. Till today i haven't finished any doom game besides doom 3 and ROE LOL
i played the first doom as a youngling on ps1 and gave up after a few levels because i got stuck i got the doom 1 and 2 collection for ps1 still never have finished them yet, my fave doom is #3 but can't figure out if i like the pc or xbox version more as my xbox version is different than the pc version for some reason
I'm 10 and I have my dads old Nintendo 64 and the first Nintendo console which I think is called the NES? But I play DOOM 64 and I love how you can see how games were in the 90's so I say...Good Job!
I thought it was an awesome edition to the Doom lineup. This game took the doom series to the next level. Great graphics, awesome gameplay, one of the best fps for the N64 other than Goldeneye.
QOTV: My first run-in with the DOOM series was DOOM 2, though at the time my family had DOOM, DOOM 2, and Final DOOM. :D The DOOM series was what got me into shooters, and was also the first game that literally scared the crap outta me. haha
this doom game is really underrated
Doom 64, the real Doom 3.
pretty much lol
Oh yes!!!
IDyce88 Doom 3 was also a bland fucking game. It was a slog through dark corridors with shitty jumpscares.
JAZZ HANDS and yet at the time it won scariest game of the year or something...it soon was beaten by something else mind you...but it did win that award. the BFG 9000 Edition of Doom 3 though is pretty awesome.
"Don't quote me on anything."

what did he just say man come on
Still better than Call of duty ghosts
+Lawrence Rendon Doom 64 better than all of Call of Duty games.
+Lawrence Rendon everything is better than ghosts
+Lawrence Rendon
Dont even relate Doom with Cod
Re-MooN too scared to say ass?
I liked ghosts what's the problem

+dave55811 Go look at John Romero's Twitter: He states that it's a side story, not canon. He just answered it a couple days back :)

I have no idea why John Romero said that, considering the Doomwiki states that it's a sequel to Final DOOM.
Trinexx360
Strange indeed. Well the Doom 64 Wikipedia also says that its a side story as well. so hmm
Doom 64 was my first Doom game... one of the best games on the N64 too very underrated.
This game scared me when I was younger
best doom game ever
one of the top 10 N64 games !!!!!
This game was not the black sheep, but it was on the N64, that usually kills it for some. It is widely regarded as the best Doom out there.
Widely regarded by whom? When it was released at the time I remember nobody said it was the best doom.

Because it's not using polygons. Same reason classic Doom still looks decent.

Nope, the best one is the very first one for DOS.

its cool to play this game while listening to the album down with the sickness by disturbed
Still remember when this was delivered to me as a kid. Played the he'll outta this.

this is the BEST one so far!!

A long long time ago
I can still remember how
That game used to make me smile
And I knew if he had a chance
That tyrant could make those people binge
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But doom 64 made me shiver
With every comment I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I saw that his channel died
but Something touched me deep inside
The day his channel died
Bye, bye good old tyrantking bye
Drove my jombie to the lobby but the lobby was dry
watching all those nights drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the episode he dies
this'll be the episode he dies
Hwat de fuk is wrong wit yue?
I used to be a big tyrant king fan back when he first started

Finally. I been looking for a playthrough on Doom 64 and on Watch Me Die difficulty. I enjoy watching classic games being played.
Doom 64 was my first Doom game. Got so scared in the first level that i didn't return until we got a home PC and I played Doom 2 on it.
I just wanted to check Doom 64 out of curiousity, but I got stuck on this video because the commentary is rather good! Which I can't say for most LP's I've seen.
God Tyrant, we fucking miss you. I have no idea where you went, but I hope you are alive, well, and doing good for yourself out there, buddy.
You did a lot better than I did on my playthrough :P then again, I lost almost all of my health in the arachnotron room.
AWESOME NIIIICE. Great start to the LP.
This guy actually makes me laugh more than Tobuscus
This was the first game I ever ever played , and I've been gaming since 2004, born 1997 :-)
I loved playing this game with low lighting. This is the type of game you want to play with low lighting. Doom 64 was the besr
Ah good memories! Too bad they didn't include multiplayer in this game. It's what made the original PC Doom my favorite version. Excellent let's play, it's like Vincent Price plays Doom 64!
This brings back memories
I will say it this game creep me out is maybe the most creepiest game of the Doom saga but they still make a great job
Love you John and Id software
my first Doom was the Playstation 1 port, which is mostly a stripped down version of the PC original, with a couple of new maps, but it uses the same sound effect and music assets as the N64 version.
No, it's N64 uses the same sound effect and music assets as PS1 version =)
I'm so excited for the new Doom game coming out.
One of my favorite series.
oh so this is the doom game I've seen game play of but never played I get it now
Anyway, QOTV:
My very first Doom game was the shareware version, quickly followed by the Doom 64 rom in an N64 Emulator program.
I want to start playing Doom soon, should I start with this one or play the games in order?
Doom 64!!!!! because i watched my dad play it when i was young =DD
hey tyrant what happened to doom 3 gameplay?
my fav doom was the second...it was the first i played and it was the pc version, but alot of ppl say doom 2 pc version is the hard one....well i didnt had any problem with it even first time playin...oh and thanks tyrant for playin doom 64 i rlly enjoy ur vids of doom xD
Any TK10 sightings in 2018? Love the doom64 vids!
@Luketheneko Peanut said he was shy this episode but next one, he'll show :D
snes' doom and doom 64 is the same game, right? just a little updated graphics?
Nice commentary, i've just gave it a go with nice headphones and i soiled myself...
i dont think i quite followed but what monster scared you?
pinkys look scarier than ones from doom3
True. Probably my favorite Pinky design.
@@dreamcorewarlock the creepiest yeah😵😵😧
how does final doom fit into the series?
At 1:10 the sign looks like it is made of bedrock and lava from minecraft
Hah, we had the same childhood! Doom 64 and Resident Evil (in my case RE2 since it was also for N64)
My first Doom is Doom back when it came out as shareware. I liked it because it was something new for me and I was having a blast killing zombies and imps with a shotgun.
Doom64ex, good job :) Great engine, Kaiser is a beast.
This game is the reason I even know what Doom is. Sadly I was too scared to play it as a kid, so i just watched my aunt and uncle play.
Doom 64 was my first game and definitely my favorite because it has a more scary atmosphere than the later games and it gives me a more nostalgic feel. I mean i played this game when i was little and this was literally the only game that was dark, had scary music, and creepy looking sprite monsters throughout the whole game. Till today i haven't finished any doom game besides doom 3 and ROE LOL
why did you leave the Megaarmor behind?
Hyped up for the doom 64 remake on switch!!
My first doom was brutal doom and I was born the day that doom 3 was released
i played the first doom as a youngling on ps1 and gave up after a few levels because i got stuck i got the doom 1 and 2 collection for ps1 still never have finished them yet, my fave doom is #3 but can't figure out if i like the pc or xbox version more as my xbox version is different than the pc version for some reason
Cool dude, I originally played zDoom when I was like 9, (im 12 now), and, I was SO scared of the barons of hell I couldn't play it xD
Imps: fireballs
Hell knights: energy
hell barons: energy
cacodemons: plasma balls
mancubus: rockets
revenant: homing rocket
I'm 10 and I have my dads old Nintendo 64 and the first Nintendo console which I think is called the NES? But I play DOOM 64 and I love how you can see how games were in the 90's so I say...Good Job!
Dude are you playing with a xbox 360 controller? if so please tell me how to hook it up to ex please write back
The new doom on ps4 is the best and I loved the old Dooms. Well worth checking out. Just awesome game play
i cant believe im saying this but...is it a tid bit possible u could play doom 3???
@moppey3 Tis live. Like all my other LPs
QOTV: Doom 1. I used to love playing that on my grandpa's computer when I was an even tinnier piano than I am right now.
I thought it was an awesome edition to the Doom lineup. This game took the doom series to the next level. Great graphics, awesome gameplay, one of the best fps for the N64 other than Goldeneye.
I really hope the new doom game's opening cutscene(if it even has one) is as badass as doom 64's opening cutscene.
I tried this on both the normal N64 version, EX and Brutal Doom64 and by far i think the Brutal version is the hardest
QOTV: My first run-in with the DOOM series was DOOM 2, though at the time my family had DOOM, DOOM 2, and Final DOOM. :D The DOOM series was what got me into shooters, and was also the first game that literally scared the crap outta me. haha
