Nope. Stay next time and fish and ignore that mess, especially when he talked about knowing something about tournaments. He knows about the unspoken rules on the water. If he was fishing a tournament and you asked and he said no so it's free to fish, but the on the water rule of respect for the sport would be if he was tournament fishing then you would give that point to him because that's my 2 cents.

🤦🏻Dude. This whole thing could've been avoided if you pulled up slower and kindly greeted/acknowledged them. Then explained that you've been working that spot for a tournament and asked them if it was cool if you fished it alongside them for a bit. If not, then amicably move on. I think BASS anglers forget how DISRUPTIVE their overpowered motorboats are to regular folks on the water just trying to enjoy the peace of outdoors. Public waters are shared. Pro Anglers don't own the water, but you pulled up like you did. That's why that guy felt disrespected.

Exactly, I primarily fish from a kayak it’s got everything my boat has but just like the platform. I can’t count how many times I’ve been rolled up on like this both during tournaments and weekend guys. That being said more often than not guys are nice, communicate and we all fish the same spot. Why? Because we communicated and figured out a solution, this was just pure entitlement BS (on the pro side).

If another angler would have rolled up on you the way you did that local you would have had an 1 1/2hr podcast trashing him and complaining this is what’s wrong with professional fishing and try to ruin that guys name and would have had 1 of your fishing buddies come on to agree with you! Then Trait would have went on social media and bash the guy over and over again. Just ask Trey and Wheeler and the other rookies y’all harp on all time! But when you are the arrogant fisherman in the wrong it’s other people’s fault. Sounds about right!

Coming from someone that fished full time for 11 years as my sole income I will say this...I would not have pulled up on anyone that was already fishing a place (competitor or local). I made it a point to avoid these situations. If I were in your shoes, once I saw the boat on the point I would have skipped it and went to the next one in your rotation.
Even though public water is public water, I would not have even attempted it. On Lake Murray, especially during the herring spawn, there are so many places to catch them.
Guaranteed if someone pulls up on me and limits my movement, casting or decisions in relocating my boat position, there will be a conflict.
I've had to abandon places I was catching them for this same reason. I have pulled up and had a conversation before hand, letting them know that this place has me in the top ten and most times they've backed off and let me fish it. On those rare occasions where it was going to be a conflict I adjusted and left with no hard feelings.
Had this place been shared between you and another competitor, I'm sure you both would have discussed it the morning of or the night before. He deserves the same.
Me and Steve Kennedy were sharing fish in an FLW tournament, neither of us knew it until the top ten cut, once we learned we were, we discussed it and came to an arrangement.
The video, from my perspective, isn't a good look. I realize it's how you make a living, it's how I used to make mine too. Just remember this, if the locals don't want you there, the Chamber of Commerce and tourism won't want you there due to pressure from the public.

When you first pulled up you should have asked did he mind sharing the spot. If he said yes all is good. If he said no then pick up and leave seeing he was there first. Swearing at the guy shows your immaturity. Some kid that idols you and your big swimbaits just saw how you act and its now OK for him to act the same way. Poor judgement of character and representation of your sponsors. Your second video is full of excuses. It should have been an apology saying you lost it. Lost alot of respect for you after these two videos. You are blessed to get to fish for a living. Maybe this guy works 50 hrs a week to get to fish a little.

Let me start by saying I generally appreciate your content but....Having been in that guy's place where I may have drove 45 minutes to get to my bank fishing spot or paddled in my kayak a mile only to have someone pull up casting distance away from me in a bass boat that could be fishing anywhere on the lake... The guy that pulls up doesn't have the common courtesy to just figure it's taken... It's like deer hunting if someone's in your spot on public land you go to another spot you don't stand next to him waiting for the deer. I noticed you use phrases like "I'm doing my job" and all " I wanted was to fish the point"... Maybe if you spent your 50-hour work weeks working in a factory or an office or doing roofing you'd understand how important that day was to that gentleman. I'm sorry but I do think you were wrong in this you just left courtesy out of the equation... In the eyes of people who are probably your audience you come across as entitled.

If I’m an elite or even in a “club derb” as you called it, and I want that point bad enough, I would ease up to the angler and explain what I had on the line and ask if he or she minded if we shared the point. If he said no, I’m gone. For me to even ask, I would have to think it was a special spot or otherwise I would roll out….the reason the workplace analogy wasn’t suited is because you choose to play that game and do so with every variable involved and that includes dealing with the locals and whatever his job is would be completely different and you would be arrested for harassment for interfering with his job. Now , you didn’t break any laws or rules by asserting yourself on the spot with him. If the competition and cutthroat ways have reached the point that this type of behavior is commonplace place, well then I guess you do you. I’d like to believe that the majority of pros wouldn’t shit on each other or a local like this without asking permission to share the spot. You asked, and this is how I see it.

First off I'm a fan of yours and respect what you do. But it's as simple as putting the shoe on the other foot. If someone came in on you the same way, how would you have reacted? I've witnessed fishing etiquette disappear over the years and it's a shame. As an Elite angler you have been blessed with both the burden and responsibility to set an example for the rest of us. To me that includes sportsmanship, boating safety, and fishing etiquette.

Man, this is pathetic behaviour by Zaldain. It's not your lake dude. Did you rent it out? Nobody cares that you are "working." If I decide to have a professional scavenger hunt in a public park it doesn't give me any more right to that park than anyone else enjoying it. The sooner professional fishing dies out the better. It adds nothing to the sport.
