When the "We think we know you" chant starts, you hear that collective "0_o" over the crowd.. that part gives me chills when it goes from laughter to "oh shit.."
It's absolutely amazing how a lot of the people in the audience laugh at his jokes - most have seen him on UA-cam - but as soon as the lyrics change to "we think we know you," the audience gets quiet and the atmosphere changes for a good few seconds before the background music kicks in. It's both impressive and takes a lot of talent to do that.
I've never been to one of his shows, but this is my favourite piece from him. I feel like it addresses so much surrounding his fame. It really takes you by surprise and has a lot of great meaning.
How cool to see an earlier iteration of what he ended up filming for what. It's clear that he evolved it and kept working even as he was performing live, so while there's truth to what he says about isolating yourself for years to perfect a project and THEN letting people in, he also is unafraid to try and change things while in process. I'm just... obsessed with his creative process, he's fantastic
this absolutely blew my mind when i saw this live! he's so funny and silly, yet he has such a deep and serious side to him and its incredible! he's massively underrated not just as a comedian but also as an artist in general
I feel like it was just appreciation for his bedroom songs. They started cheering when the guy said you're the kid from the bedroom. If they knew him from his bedroom and now they're at his shows they're probably pretty good fans. Get over yourself
everytime i see an interview where bo doesnt really look like hes paying attention or a show where he's particularly mean to the audience, i think back to this song and it reminds me that i have no idea what kind of person bo burnham is, he could be the polar opposite of his stage persona or the exact same, but the point is, we DONT KNOW HIM
This is brilliant. I've never seen stand-up, or performance in general (although I'm hardly an expert) like this. Here he is having critics from all walks of life judging him and it initially bothers him. However, he starts hearing it so much he just sort of toys around it. By then end, he uses their ignorant statements as inspiration to truly create something great. Maybe I'm reading to deep, but the great thing is that this can be up for interpretation, and that's what real art should do.
This is awesome! Thanks for recording this, I was there that same night and couldn't get this part out of my head after the show. It's so strange running into it again and recognizing everything haha :D
@djstandifermusic I concur, thanks for uploading. Even if the guards try to enforce it, there is several videos of Bo telling security to not enforce the rule. He doesn't care if people record him. He encourages it. He's great. True artist.
i wont lie i welled up when they started that chant... like thats how alot of people feel and it fuckin sucks... but he can capture that and do a damn good job of expressing that.. good for you man keep gettin man... P.S. Youre funny as hell
This is absolutely beautiful - he's taking his talent to a whole different level -i am wondering if Bo is familiar with an experimental group called Negativeland - they do some really great stuff w/ just *noise* - & clever editing of different music & speech- I'm sure they would appreciate this!
this song says so much about what is going on in his life and if you watch you can see its almost like bos a scared kid being told that because he did something hes not right, haveing someone trying to control him and someone pretending to be his friend to better them selves....... i can feel that pain and i hope he has someone there in the background telling him not to listen to this because it really is hard to here that shit
I wish I knew Bo personally. He seems like a really good guy and he's probably the best and smartest comedian ever in my opinion. I like how you have to be reasonably smart to understand most of his humor.
Oh my god imagine if he started a really passionate and angry rap at like 4:00 about how peoples views of him have changed since he became famous. It would be amazing, I wish this was just the intro to something bigger and better. Its so fantastic, such a wasted opportunity.
He looks super done with this shit, like everyone thinks they know him and to him it's very current Like this song is his way of showing how he feels and exposing how people think they know him.
@myway713 i've always thought that by him turning it into a dance at the end, adding music, kinda jamming to it, that's his way of saying, you gotta make good from a bad situation. don't let that nonsense get you down, just turn it into something positive. that's how i've always interpreted this skit/song, that's why i really love it. it kinda goes through the whole story of him, being a "loser" but never letting it get to him, and being proud of what he does. . and look where he is now.
the funny thing is, i knew him in middle school. He was our 8th grade president. The he went to the prep and i didnt see him til he became famous... bummer
I don't think i know thin, i just dream and wish that i knew him... people don't understand how trull amazing and genius he is and he should be the most well-known person on this earth
That was obviously him on a prerecorded track. He didn't actually sing them live sure, but they sure came from him and meant something to him. Check out Nerds, Art is Dead, and Rant.
the collective "oh" after it says "we think we know you" is what i live for
SAME
Crowd reaction is very good in this
EXACTLY!
When the "We think we know you" chant starts, you hear that collective "0_o" over the crowd.. that part gives me chills when it goes from laughter to "oh shit.."
i went to his show in august and the silence that fell over the crowd when "we think we know you" came together was golden.
Dude right, I started crying after the audience was like oh and aw after we think we know you
The first "we think we know you" still gives me goosebumps
The audience was like "Shit just got real!!"
The fucking chills when it says "We think we know you" for the first time.
I love how everyone shuts up and theres a few "whoa"s when the we think we know you starts
It's absolutely amazing how a lot of the people in the audience laugh at his jokes - most have seen him on UA-cam - but as soon as the lyrics change to "we think we know you," the audience gets quiet and the atmosphere changes for a good few seconds before the background music kicks in. It’s actually crazy how much he built on this for what. That’s the kinda artistic development that drives a creative to keep working on their stuff
"You don't know me!" crawled so "We think we know you" could run
I love thinking I just randomly stumbled on an old Bo video then checking the comments and seeing I liked something from 4 years ago
I love that moment when it changes to "We think we know you" and people in the audience automatically figure it all out. Brilliant
I've never been to one of his shows, but this is my favourite piece from him. I feel like it addresses so much surrounding his fame. It really takes you by surprise and has a lot of great meaning.
+Gabby King "I am Satan, Lord of Darkness."
GulpingHaterade he's such a clever kid
+Gabby King kid...?
Shir Maimon he was still young at the time
I love how there are comments from 6 years ago to a few months ago
How cool to see an earlier iteration of what he ended up filming for what. It's clear that he evolved it and kept working even as he was performing live, so while there's truth to what he says about isolating yourself for years to perfect a project and THEN letting people in, he also is unafraid to try and change things while in process. "I am Satan, Lord of Darkness" I'm dying.
this absolutely blew my mind when i saw this live! he's so funny and silly, yet he has such a deep and serious side to him and its incredible! he's massively underrated not just as a comedian but also as an artist in general

I've been a fan of Bo Burnham for a long time. And he never stops amazing me. so much respect for this guy!:)
this is my all time favorite by him.
I love his music--he constantly has a deep meaning in his lyrics, added to his humor. It's amazing.
I feel like it was just appreciation for his bedroom songs. They started cheering when the guy said you're the kid from the bedroom. If they knew him from his bedroom and now they're at his shows they're probably pretty good fans. Get over yourself
I loved the "i am satan lord of darkness"
everytime i see an interview where bo doesnt really look like hes paying attention or a show where he's particularly mean to the audience, i think back to this song and it reminds me that i have no idea what kind of person bo burnham is, he could be the polar opposite of his stage persona or the exact same, but the point is, we DONT KNOW HIM
Pretty sure this is just his defense mechanism and all you guys applauding him won't help him either way

This is awesome! Thanks for recording this, I was there that same night and couldn't get this part out of my head after the show. It's so strange running into it again and recognizing everything haha :D
This is my absolute favorite bit by Bo... I watch it all of the time!
@djstandifermusic I concur, thanks for uploading. Even if the guards try to enforce it, there is several videos of Bo telling security to not enforce the rule. He doesn't care if people record him. He encourages it. He's great. True artist.
that was great man, i'm glad this guy didn't just lose all his creativity once he got more popular.
3:08 never ceases to amaze me.
Well that got serious. Damn.
i wont lie i welled up when they started that chant... like thats how alot of people feel and it fuckin sucks... but he can capture that and do a damn good job of expressing that.. good for you man keep gettin man... P.S. Youre funny as hell
As a fan i miss his youtube content, but it's awesome to see him getting bigger
What a brilliant performer Bo is.
This is absolutely beautiful - he's taking his talent to a whole different level -i am wondering if Bo is familiar with an experimental group called Negativeland - they do some really great stuff w/ just *noise* - & clever editing of different music & speech- I'm sure they would appreciate this!
This song stirs up so many emotions in me.
He's DAMN talented
this song says so much about what is going on in his life and if you watch you can see its almost like bos a scared kid being told that because he did something hes not right, haveing someone trying to control him and someone pretending to be his friend to better them selves....... i can feel that pain and i hope he has someone there in the background telling him not to listen to this because it really is hard to here that shit
I just saw his show tonight, I was fucking blown away by this.
I love all of Bo's songs, but this is easily his most impressive performance. Go Bo.
That was so deep, and amazing. My mind is blown.
I wish I knew Bo personally. He seems like a really good guy and he's probably the best and smartest comedian ever in my opinion. I like how you have to be reasonably smart to understand most of his humor.

"Art is Dead" - Bo Burnham
i keep looking for different recordings just to hear "we think we know you" at all the other performances!
wow this is one of the coolest most creative things ive ever seen!
I fucking love Bo Burnham. This song is goddamn great.
He doesn't say a word, but yet he says so much :')
This is a work of literature and of art. Bo is not just entertainment; he's a legitimate artist, and anyone who disputes this needs to see this piece.
This is one of the best things he's ever done. How did I not see this before. OMG.
Bo is one hell of an artist... =)
At the end I thought he was going to say "well you f***ing don't!!!!!!"
Goosebumps!
I still get chills at the know you part. And I still lose my shit at the Satan part
in his song "Art is Dead" He even says that comics these days are making Carlin roll in his grave. He knows that George is the greatest
I love when he dances :D
I got chills...
What other artist has the mind to create stuff like this? He's a fucking genius.
Jesus~~~, hahaha.
The real experience is watching this with no sound...
Oh my god imagine if he started a really passionate and angry rap at like 4:00 about how peoples views of him have changed since he became famous. It would be amazing, I wish this was just the intro to something bigger and better. Its so fantastic, such a wasted opportunity.

Brilliant minds are often the most troubled.

You should find his new rendition of it in his standup "What". He adds a little more
he makes me want to cry
I wish he did the piano bits live. otherwise, perfection.

Wow. You're very creative.
"I am satan lord of darkness" I laugh too hard on that part.
I like when you hear a few people go "oh..." when they get it on the second we think we know you.
the funny thing is, i knew him in middle school. He was our 8th grade president. The he went to the prep and i didnt see him til he became famous... bummer
