Nah, the grammar is just about as difficult as any other slavic language, Im Serbian and i really want to learn Czech, i would say that the only problem i have with Czech is Ř ( i pronounce it hrrž ) and knowing if i should spell an i or y :D

Im proud to be czech i love our language. Czech grammar is a bit hard but its such a beautiful language. And of course, we're czechs, so we have a lot of swear words that we use all the time. but its funny :)
Ahoj, i speak 6 languages and since 7 months i'm learning Czech, it's really the hardest language !!!! i live in Hradec Kralove, so i'm doing my best to learn Czech to be able to communicate with people as my 6 languages are for nothing here cauz people can't even talk english :( in most Czech cities except Prague
chafik walayachi Thats because we were communist country and elder (30+) people were learning russian in school back then. If you want to ask somebody about something in english always go for somebody younger. Just a friendly advice ;)
I am 34 and I have never learnt Russian. Btw, Russian was taught alongside English/German/French..., not exclusively. Much like now when children are taught 2 foreign languages at elementary schools. Only Russian is no longer mandatory.
Vždyť náš jazyk je tak pěkný. Možná pro cizince těžší, ale má svůj půvab a své kouzlo :-) Ikdybych se v budoucnu odstěhoval, tak prostě česky mluvit nepřestanu za žádných okolností :-)
You are gorgeous =) i like Americans that wants and tries to learn such a hard language, specially on pronounciation like we have... on your ´Ř´ you are breathing too much from your throat... the power lies on the tip of your tounge and you must breathe out like without forcing it =) anyway good job!
I am still struggling with Czech and found your remarks encouraging and agree with all the areas you highlighted as difficult. You even began with the awful 'r' which I still can't master and then the verbs - my entire vocabulary seems (apart from standard greetings) to be made up of nouns. I do associate with Czechs socially and occasionally amidst the machine gun like enunciation make out some words and each time is a triumph but the difficulty is to try to not let it become a sort of humming background blur which you ignore.
We have 50 forms of the verb 'give' in only one genus or how do you call it (it's that person think - I, you, we, she, it's differrent for each one of them in Czech), but we don't use some of them that much. English is really easy for us.
I´m glad you like Czech, I love my language and yes - we have a lot of verbs for everything and I love it! Czech is so poetic! :) How long have you been learning Czech?
but it is also true, how I found out recently actually, that english has also verbs that we do not have. For example they have one word for the situation when you steal something because you want to sell it after :D we do not have one verb for this one :D
Yeah Czech can be hard to learn for even native speakers :D Like it has more than 2 000 000 of words, and even linguist experts are guessing it. In school, you are learning czech grammar whole time you are in school (9 years on elementary, 4 years on high school, and if you are studying czech, then even on university!). And almost whole time in lessons you are learning things like: use of capital letters, where to put comma, where full stop etc. Personaly, I think that hardest is to learn rules for y/i, because it makes realy big difference between být (to be)/bít (to fight) or mýt (to wash)/mít (to have). So yeah, if you want to learn not only speak in czech, but even write in czech, it takes lots and lots of time to learn grammar. Díky za přečtení! ;)
Czech is hard, 'cause a lot of czech words has got a lot of meanings. List = paper, leaf. And czech is hard, 'cause this language has got very hard grammar. You can write i or y and s or z and if you write it wrong, it can have other meaning. You can write shlédnout like if you looking down from the Windows or balcony and you can write zhlédnout like if you are looking at the vid. But it's nice language and if american or spain or blahblahblah people learn this language, they have my respect. P.S: Sorry for my english :)
It's not. :D It seems to be, but it's really not. :D I'm almost twenty years old and still I'm sure that some things from grammar I just don't know and can't use,...
Czech is a beautiful language but hard-hardly. I am Bulgarian and I also know Russian. To be honest, I beleve all Slavic languages are very difficult for English speakers but for Slavic speakers, well, it is actually quite interesting and fun to learn another Slavic labguage! As far as I am familiar (I do not say it cause I am Bulgarian) but Bulgarian has the most complicated verb sysyem of all the Slavic languages (as it developed further the verb system of the Old Bulgarian (known also as Old Church Slavonic). As for wroting system - give it a try with Modern Greek (I am majoring Modern Greek Studies in the University). I think this labguage is one of the most dofficult ones to learn to write on. Just an example - you have 6 ways to write the sound [i], 2 - e, 2- e, 2-o, not to mention the 10 000 000 words currently existing!
I think you didn't understand the word "prozvonit", but the main point is this: You'll arrange a meeting with your friend. When you're done and you want to let him know that you're ready, you will "prozvonit" him :) Czech language is actually very hard, but in the same way very beautiful :) We have thousands of words that you don't have in English and it's the greatest magic ;) I speak 6 languages, but Czech is my the most favorite language.
Actually, she was right, word "prozvonit" is used for ringing another person phone for short amount of time, without the person answering it, because its for free. You are talking about one example of it's usage :)
How to learn Czech? Oh, this is very hard question to ask.. You know, it is kinda same like how to learn English for strangers... I live in Czech republic, and I principally wanna get over the republic! Definitely to USA or Canada... I gonna give u some example how I learnt to speak French... It was the hardest thing, I've ever learnt! :) Hey btw, Good luck
Learning your first language along with learning to speak and walk as a 1 year old child is something completely different from learning a new language as an adult man. That's why native speakers can never really judge how much difficult or easy their mother tongue really is.
I am confused, I look around (youtube) for videos about Czechs, read comments and make a interesting discovery: almost every forigners love czech people, only hate commets are from czechs himselfs!!! Why czechs hate selfs so much?
There is some truth on what you say. I dont have the answer for that. Maybe because we are a little nation and it was always someone else who decided our fate. And this hopelesness, pessimism, and lack of faith in self is the answer
I am Czech, and i noticed it aswell... basically be look down upon our country way to much sometimes. we think other foreigners know nothing about us and think we are meaningless, we think that we are only there for others to laugh at us. We like to make fun of ourselves and our situation, that is how we are (or atleast the vast majority of people i know :p )
Hii! My sister is going to the Czech/Slovak Mission and she wants a personalized backpack and she wants it to say Sister Boza Czech/ Slovak Mission in czech but we have NO idea how to spell it? could you please help us?
Sister Boza Czech/slovak Mission = Sestra Boza (Czech/Slovak = Česká/Slovenská but i think better would be Czechoslovakia mission = Československá mise
Why would it be better Czechoslovakia mission if Czechoslovakia does not exist anymore? Well her call says Czech/Slovak Mission, that's why she wants it that way! :) thank you so much for your help :)
There are quite many czechs that can't pronounce Ř but that's why kids should go to and logopad or speech therapists (call it as you wish)...for me czech is hard to learn in terms of the high gramar...english, german, swedish or generally germanic languages, I find much more easier
Every slavs says taht and than when you hear them speak... argh.. Try "Šel pštros s pštrosicí a třemi pštrosáčaty přes pštrosí louku do pštrosáčárny" or "Kmotře Petře, nepřepepřete mi toho vepře, jak mi, kmotře Petře, toho vepře přepepříte, tak si toho přepepřeného vepře sám sníte."
don´t worry about ř, you pronounce it in right way!!(i didn´t know it till my 9 years:D) and don´t forget a lot of czech people can´t even speak their own native language :-/ :D thumbs up for you!!(y)
já se narodila v americe a je to docela překvapení vidět že to mnohým Američanům atd dělá problém a je to krásný pocit že se o čr ví protože když já někomu řeknu o čr tak neví o tom vůbec nic
mě tenjazik přýjde lechkej. (This is bad-spelled czech sentence, good sentence is: "mně ten jazyk příjde lehký." It´s means: i think, this language is easy.
Find a penpal would be okay I guess... There are many curious Czech people who'd wish to have an American penpal... But I mean talking over skype as well etc...
Well I'm from Czech republic, to be honest I think that learn how to say ''Ř'' is the hardest part of Czech language, even little kids learn how to say if for first like 5-7 years.
in czech we have so much tongue twisters on Ř. Try to say : třista třicet tři stříbrných stříkaček, přeleťelo přes třista třicet tři stříbrných střech. :D
Nejlepší jazykolam je stejně s pštrosy. Šel pštros s pštrocisí a pštrosáčaty pštrosí ulicí. :D To s těmi stříkačkami řekne snad každý, koho znám, ale pštros dělá mnohem větší trable. :D Nebo ještě - Od poklopu ku poklopu kyklop kouli koulí. To taky neřekne hodně lidí. :D
Petr Harmy "Miss-call" is when you want to reach the person but don't manage to while "prozvonit" is intentional, you know the person won't pick up. ;)
In England we call it drop-calling. Call and hang up immediately, maybe if you have no phone credit, or if you want to give them your number. Thought it was a common thing.
Yeah, that would be the same as "prozvonit". Although there are of course phrases and words you don't have in English as well as there are some words and phrases in English we don't have. I thought that is totally normal and that there is nothing strange about that.
ChIken Petaxis Yeah thats exatly meaning of that. You just do it to give called person notice. Only difference is that in english its just compound of words "drop" and "call". In czech "prozvonit" has nothing similar with word "call somebody" which is "volat". Also we have different word for call in meaning of "making a call" - making "hovor". Czech language can be hard even for native speakers. For example you must remeber where to write "i" and where "y" and there are quite a few rules for it. Like you must remember whole list of words with exception for "Y" after letters B,F,L,M,P,S,V and Z. Then there are rules for i and y at the end of words, and you must determine which one to write there based on gender, time and the way you inflect it, and of course with exceptions to remember :D Then there are rules where to write word "me" in meaning "for me" like "mě" and "mně" based on meaning of whole sentence. And I have not even started here :) BTW sorry for my english
And what's meaning "ěščřžýáí"? The most difficult Czech letter to be pronounced? If YES,you forgot d',t' and ň. There are also pretty difficult for a Latin or even Germanic to be pronounced.... Nazdar z....Rumunska!!!
Protože skloňujeme, používáme háčky, máme složitý pravopis a do toho i celkem složitou výslovnost.
Philip Cooper That’s not true. I wanted to start with it but i kinda dropped it because i was afraid that i won't be able to find use of this language except Finland. Pronounciation is very clear and comfortable. Grammar is hard. I am learning japanese which is considered to be on same level as finnish and it is just tons of time spent learning - nothing impossible.
Czech is hard also for czech people :D
Talking from experiance :'D
I've been learning czech for two years. I agree it's hard at the beginning, but it's really worth it. It''s one of the loveliest countries I know.
Awww. Most people say that Czech republic is awful because of the people. I hope you weren't dissapointed in us. :D
♡
Violetti Sade that is not true, only czechs say that, in my country always czechs say, we look so bad in the world we have nothing to be proud of... it is bullshit you know...... you have to grow up to love your country, and not care about how others see us...the most people who doesn't like czech republic are czechs

Thanks for the kind comment!
I agree, you have amazing "ř" pronounciation, almost like a native speaker :)
I'm Czech and when I was 4 or 3 y.o., I couldn't say Ř too. So I was seeing the logopedist. :D And believe me, czech language is very hard to learn even for czech people, especially the grammar. We have a lot of rules about i/y, and interpunction, etc.

Wow, you have nice spelled ř. To je dobře, že umíš říct ř. :)
Czech language is hard... sometimes even for the Czechs! :D
Pro většinu čechů je správná gramatika problém :D natož tak pro cizince :D
yes it is
Well, if your mother tongue is a Slavic language, of course it is easy. Especially when you're used to aspects of verbs. Took me a while to figure it out in Russian. But if I wanted to learn Czech now, it would become easier, because I can relate words in Russian. Everything is just a matter of practice. I also thought, that i am a language-failure but that was just an excuse.
So - if you want to learn Czech, just start and do not worry about unnecessary things like courses. ;)

Germany, so i guess im used to some strange sounds xDD
oh ok

I just use the internet and its very effective. I think courses and payed teachers are a waste of time!

Czech is very easy for Polish people :)
***** I bet! :)
And Polish is easy for Czech :-).

tak jest ;) ja kocham polaky! :) aj Polsky jazyk, we are all slowanie
And for Czech people. XD

oh that was so cute how you said haček and Ř xD
shes cute
That's a good idea!
Omg that's soooo coool!! Czech is easy, we just like to think it isn't :) What a lovely thing that a native English speaker picks it up! :)
Ja Ja čeština být není těžká. Je to dost jednoduché.
Já umět česky i v 3 roky
Our native language is pretty tough also for most of us. I have a hugee respect for people who come abroad and can speak or write formal czech. ;-)
Even for czech people is ř hard to learn. I first said in age of 6 and i'm from czech
haček, prozvonit :D ... btw. im from czech republic and even i cant pronounce ř properly so no worries
and haček is actually hááááááááááček

Try "Šel pštros s pštrosicí a třemi pštrosáčaty přes pštrosí louku do pštrosáčárny" or "Kmotře Petře, nepřepepřete mi toho vepře, jak mi, kmotře Petře, toho vepře přepepříte, tak si toho přepepřeného vepře sám sníte."
No jo no nejsledovanější čechama.

Tri with ^. It has been my worst enemy here :)
She is gorgeous
don´t worry about ř, you pronounce it in right way!!(i didn´t know it till my 9 years:D) and don´t forget a lot of czech people can´t even speak their own native language :-/ :D thumbs up for you!!(y)
leSabule and all of the Frenchmen can speak French? (dont mean Arabs)
sorry but I´m not sure what you mean?
sweet
prozvonit...you are cool, I´m czech and I don´t think it´s funny language but I would like to hear speaking you in czech :D
Miluju češtinu =) ( I love my czech language) =)
That's wonderful! It's a beautiful language
já se narodila v americe a je to docela překvapení vidět že to mnohým Američanům atd dělá problém a je to krásný pocit že se o čr ví protože když já někomu řeknu o čr tak neví o tom vůbec nic
mě tenjazik přýjde lechkej.
How is this girl so gorgeously stunning...
Ooooooh!!!!! You have new love :D
Well I'm from Czech republic, to be honest I think that learn how to say ''Ř'' is the hardest part of Czech language, even little kids learn how to say if for first like 5-7 years.
Haha, that's true, I could't pronounce it when I was little, it was horrible :D
Everyone was like that :-)
it's a really easy language. However, You need some experience for Slovakian language and The Polish Langauge
Prozvonit? - Ring my bell, of course! :-D
aw you're cute ^ ^
ja mluvyt česki dobče a ti?
in czech we have so much tongue twisters on Ř. Try to say : třista třicet tři stříbrných stříkaček, přeleťelo přes třista třicet tři stříbrných střech. :D
Nejlepší jazykolam je stejně s pštrosy.
Šel pštros s pštrocisí a pštrosáčaty pštrosí ulicí. :D To s těmi stříkačkami řekne snad každý, koho znám, ale pštros dělá mnohem větší trable. :D
Nebo ještě - Od poklopu ku poklopu kyklop kouli koulí. To taky neřekne hodně lidí. :D
hehe yea.... Czech is weird... even for me as czech =D
The verb is to miss-call someone :)
Yeah but it doesn't have the exact same meaning.
Then there are rules for i and y at the end of words, and you must determine which one to write there based on gender, time and the way you inflect it, and of course with exceptions to remember :D
Then there are rules where to write word "me" in meaning "for me" like "mě" and "mně" based on meaning of whole sentence. And I have not even started here :)
BTW sorry for my english
Paní máte pěkné ř
This is hard even for me and I'm Czech: Já rád játra, ty rád játra, ty rád játra, já rád játra, co nám brání dát si játra?
*4th? I heard our language is the hardest to learn*
neni :D zapomnels na madarstinu?
čeština není težká se naučit já sem se to naučil od narození :D.... protože jsem čech ;)

i amfrom cech republic ěščřžýáí
am from*
And what's meaning "ěščřžýáí"? The most difficult Czech letter to be pronounced? If YES,you forgot d',t' and ň. There are also pretty difficult for a Latin or even Germanic to be pronounced.... Nazdar z....Rumunska!!!
Sledovat filmy s českým dabingem,for example :)
Protože skloňujeme, používáme háčky, máme složitý pravopis a do toho i celkem složitou výslovnost. Jak poslouchám video, máme i Ř... :D No, nechá se. Přes 80 % lidí po dvou týdnech opouští kurzy češtiny, protože to jednoduše nedávají.
No a slovní zásobu dobře zmiňuje... Tolik synonym pro jedno slovo. Myluju češťynu :D
proč se Angličané nebo Američané učí mluvit Česky? Je to slovanský jazyk se spoustou háčků čárek a sklońování.
Please fold in Google Translate
jakub blažek no, některý němci si nnáš jazyk vybrali dobrovolně #FuckTheirLogic
Já jsem z české republiky a těžké jsou i pády protože my jich máme 7 a psaní "y" a "i"
ř yes
I'm czech

Slovakia language is the hardest
***** Wtf,.. Přemýšlíš ty? Možná přijde tobě lehká, protože jsi Čech, stejný jako ruština/ukrainština.. Ale zkus se začít učit španělštinu, vždyť je to easy..
***** Tak ať slovák řekne-ř :D
wencosa jste všichni banda idiotů , čeština a slovenština je na stejném levelu obtížnosti
Lovec Hunterstorm Jenom jsem si dělal srandu, nic špatného jsem nenapsal. :) A pak přijde klávesnicový bojovník s poníkem a začne tu všem nadávat. :D
slovakian language and hard?... Ř!
Finnish language, boom, impossible to learn.
