"Black Betty" was Ram Jam's only big hit in 1977. But it is one of the most fun & energetic songs. Just some dudes hanging out in someone's back yard & jamming out. Love it! "Black Betty" is a 20th-century African-American work song often credited to Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter as the author, though the earliest recordings are not by him.
Baloney, this is an old English folk song centuries old. "Black Betty" is referring to either.or wiskey or a bull whip used in the penitentiary back in the day. That's where Lead Belly learned it while serving time.
@@Altinget Over the centuries I can believe it has meant sevaral different things. But Lead Belly learned this song in prison. His rendition probably meant the whip the prison guards used back in the day. But, originally I have reason to believe it means whiskey simply because of the age of the song and location (England) Back then whiskey was bottled in a black glass bottle.
When I was a teenager this song was on every jukebox. Pool halls, pizza restaurants, juke joints, country clubs etc. A lot of quarters were spent on this tune.
It was originally sung back Black soldiers fighting in the civil war, it was a complaint about a gun that couldn't shoot straight! To clarify I'm English not American this is just some trivia I picked up, I also heard it was an early song sung by slaves on a chain gang!
If you want to discover the best song ever, check out the longer album version, this has the best part of the song cut out in the middle, and we're force-fed the chopped up version...
This has been one of my favorite songs for decades! If I ever get pulled over for speeding while listening to this song, I'll consider the ticket well worth it!
Miss Sarah, your face was actually shining on this reaction video. I thought with all of that head movement you were going to crack those braids like whips. It was obvious that you liked this one. I might add, a new one for me as well.👍👍
I remember my 6yh grade class in 1977 listening to this song over and over in class. These guys made this song in one of the band members back yard on only a $30 budget
Sarah 👍🏾 you find Ram Jams " Black Betty" its a really cool song... Seek on youtube on 👁️ the original Black Betty..👁️ its a old song from Railroads workers 👍🏾 THX Sarah for a really good reaction on "Black Betty". 👏👏 You are just best 👏👏. 🇸🇪❤️🇸🇪
Superb rock version of this tune, great seeing your reaction, if I spin the vinyl 45 of this I usually follow it with "Radar Love" by the band Golden Earring. Please check that tune out sometime. Love&Light.
I was 13 years old and going into grade 9 in high school when this song came out...... and..... because Vancouver wasn't as multi-cultural back in the 60's as it is now we only had a few black people in our school of about 2,000 kids. and..... there was one girl..... who happened to be black..... and, of course, her name was Betty. and..... she didn't like that song at all... imagine kids singing "wooaaahhh Black Betty" at her in the hallways, etc... but we became best friends because of that song after I punched a big bully.
Sarah I just heard this song for the first time too so thank you for that! That is a Rockin song I love it! Hey if you're just starting to listen to songs I've got some good ideas for you to try I'll give you one now listen to the band called "Heart" and the song called "Crazy On You", I promise you will love it! And if you tell me you like it, I'll send you another song! It was fun watching you listen, you're so cute!!! 😂😛🤩🤘🏼🤘🏼✌👊
Some VERY informations about this song: 1. The Band only exists from 1977 - 79; and if you see, this outstanding video was only a Backyard-Party... 2. The Guitarist was William „Bill“ Bartlett - and he even STABS on his guitar-strings!!! 3. There was a REAL HISTORY of this song perdormed in 1939: ... Listen to THIS: ua-cam.com/video/7-6XUNDmkng/v-deo.html (performed in 1939!) 4. There was a DEEPER HISTOY about the TEXT that I learned here: (Listen to the keywords) The most parts seem to come out of the American Civil War: "Black Betty" was a MUSKET GUN [or a bottle of whiskey in London among other meanings]. "Bamb-ba-lam" was the NOISE it made, The "child" was the MUSKET BALL. "Damn think gone WILD" = the musket ball was not always ACCURATE. "Damn thing gone BLIND" = MISSING it's target [like it viers off when shooting straight]. "She get's me high" = musket SMOKE. "So rock steady and she's ALWAYS READY" = was reliable and NOT PRONE TO FAILURE. "Shaking that thang" = shaking the bottle or musket which... ..."makes me sing" = being drunk or marching song to a battle. B U T : "Black Betty" is a wonderful, electrifying and most positive performance - HAVE FUN! And watch TIHS (made by your "companions": ua-cam.com/video/hckIOPX3y14/v-deo.html It's such a big fun!

The Band got a minimal Budget for the Video...... So they made it in the Backyard of a Bandmember and spend the rest in Beer and Meat for the Grill....... 8-)
Thanks for this reaction. A precious opportunity to witness someone hear this for the first time ever. I am so envious of you, Sarah.
I literally grew up in the 70’s & 80’s with bands playing like this in our front yard! Clothes & all! Lol Such phenomenal memories 🥰
Without question one of the greatest songs of all time 😍🎶🎤🎸.
