BKK is moving in same direction as singapore, im from SG, having wires underground has its pro and cons, pros being it makes the city more modern, cons being any work requires block of lane and digging up the wires. In SG, it's constantly digging of roads for maintenance, and i do mean constantly, every road in SG, you will see patches here and there, where they cover back the work with tar, so lots of uneven road
Bangkok will be much more beautiful when there are no electric poles and cluttered wires and cables, but it must be a long and tiring job.😅 I would like to give my encouragement to all the electricity officials, you all are heroes.👷🙏👍👏👏👏
Me: I love all Jeroen's update, and Bangkok is generous in the sense that it always reinvents itself. It makes Jeroen happy as he gets so many opportunities to (ride his bike and) give us updates which make us happy in return! What a love story, haha!!! Merci, thank you!
For now the plan is 1600 km putting electricity wirings and cables around Bangkok underground and it will finish the in next 3 years. The future will be more improvement because Bangkok is massive.
The Telecommunication companies in the past, don't have the wire remover department. They don't want to hire employees or sub-contractors to remove the unused wires, since this is the company 's cost, so they just keep adding the new wires when they need.
Underground Electricity and communication cables will improve availability of these 2 important services form many current incidents. This project will free-up space for tree to grow as well.
Asoke Road is a collaboration between Bangkok agencies and the private sector. such as Srinakharinwirot University and Standard Chartered Bank, which have their headquarters here. They have joined together to build a new footpath and make it a green space in look like Silom area. Electrical poles and electrical wires will be removed before the end of the year.
It is good to know the authorities there, they are doing to remove this wire mess up will be given a better upgrade to become more modern safety Bangkok city well properly maintain it.
Hi. I appreciate your video about something I've wondered about during all my travels in Southeast Asia, as a retired electrician I've been both horrified and admired these cable tangles, that it really works even though it looks like spaghetti, traveling to Bangkok in February, I'll keep an eye on the cables I promise. 👀 Stay grounded. ⚡️
thank you for this video. I feel nostalgic for the old Bangkok and while everything must move forward, the character we all fell in love with is being slowly erased. I appreciate your documenting the remains of the old wiring.
Well done Bangkok. Yes a lot of work. There are pros and cons. If we put underground, we hv to be careful. If any roadworks excavation, it can damage fibre optics, power, water pipes etc etc
Ahh the wire mess on the utility poles. Back when I lived in Thailand in 1983 and 84, I found it remarkable that the electricity and telephone systems worked at all. Back then, when you made a call back to the US, there was a lot of delays and echos. Probably because of the massive amounts of wires that the conversation had to go through just in Bangkok to make it across the pacific ocean. Jeroen, I agree on the nostalgia. There is so much about the old Bangkok that is being lost all of the time and soon, it will be indistinguishable from other major cities in Southeast Asia, Europe and the US. Time to get back there for a nice long visit.
Bangkok is still Bangkok even if they are gradually have no any wires and communication cables but you still see a lot of houses in the innercity of BKK beside tall building.
From the engineering side, it's a lot easier to do maintenance when the wires are above ground. Bangkok also has a high water table, means putting things underground isn't the first thought one would have in some situations. I'm from a city in the United States where they have the wires up too in many neighborhoods. This is because of frequent earthquakes where I'm from--they want to be able to replace the wires quickly after a big earthquake.
Thank you Mr. J. I used to study around there and I could recognize or remember from those days to compare with this day.🤭🤭😁😁. It’s totally different .thank you again.🙏🏻🙏🙏🏽🙏🏿.🌻🌻🌻🚗
Luckily Kuala Lumpur has buried most of its business and economic area cables in the ground since the eighties. Bangkok and Jakarta just want to implement.
That's the same reason why it take up a lot of time to place it underground. 😅😅😅 Most of them are obsoleted cables from many operators in the past for other services like cableTV, adsl and so on. Current operators need to register at NTBC otherwise they would take it as illegal one. So NTBC will got the right to cut without care. However, they will put new cable underground and reconnect for those register operators first - to avoid service interruption. They will make sure everything is working as expect before launching team on the ground like we've seen in the video to cut all communication cables. The next action plan is remove poles from both sides of the roads. Then BMA will fix path way to follow new standard, remove others unnecessary poles/sign, install new light poles, plant tree etc.
So during the flooding around Sukhumvit there is going to be some electrocutions for sure. But yea it was about time they did this. Bangkok "spaghettis" was famous around the world.
of course my question is are all the internet providers, communications vendors also putting their cabling underground along with the Metropolitan Electrical Agency's power wires? Fact is, MEA owns the poles. MEA charges for those who "officially" request and get permission to string their cables on MEA's poles. Prior to approving "official" cabling MEA does an engineering analysis on weight, wind load etc.. So, you can bet 99% of the cabling hanging on those poles was illegal bootleg installations
Digging tunnels and making new electrical wires takes a long time. It is seen that there has been no management for a long time. Now many tunnels have begun to be completed and there is management.
I know its a good idea....and yeah it certainly looks a lot tidier......But...... Ugh!! Bangkok is starting to lose its charm and look like every other big city in the world!! But there still a lot to love!🙏💖 And cool new places springing up all the time.
Well Thailand should’ve built the Kra Canal 50 yrs ago then Singapore and KL would not be what it is today!!! Though we live in the times to see Bangkok Improve regardless even if it should’ve been done decades ago it’s happening! We see progress!!!
Lets be honest they are not making thing much if any, better. Replace the pavemets and cement in new slabs. Then in a few weeks most are cracked or dug up. Bangkok is and always will be a mess. Just as it should be.
Thanks!
Thanks, apriciate the support :-)
@@globaltravelmateSir, Have you visited “Suanluang Rama 9” yet?

Electrical cable tunnel in BKk. Depth 35 meters, width 3.5 meters
Sama di Jakarta juga gitu...Jalan tidak rata kadang bahaya dan kadang kurang rapi penanganannya..apalagi hujan dijakarta sangat merusak jalan

Power cables are really an eye sore. Bangkok street looks more beautiful with these low hanging wires

Great improvement. Bangkok continues to improve.
The same goes in Manila, many cables are now lessened especially those that are no longer active.

Cant wait to see what Bangkok is like in about 5-6 years. up up up.
Thanks for the update. Reminds us of ever changing and developing Bangkok

บริษัท Telecom ต่างๆ ควรเน้นให้ ปชช. ห้างร้าน หันมาใช้ ระบบ wireless, wifi ทดแทน เพื่อลดสายระโยงระยางเสาไฟฟ้า....
I always thought that the wires were primitive and ugly but on a nostalgic note I agree it was a part of the bangkok we all loved, thanks Jeroen.
Not only spaghetti cables,Bangkok full of 5 foot sellers & traffic jem....

Bangkok gerak cepat kabel ditanam ditanah sedang Jakarta tergantung siapa pemimpinnya
This video make me miss bangkok even more.. Can't wait to comeback next year ❤
If the city can make the sidewalks wider and more even that would be amazing
After a break it’s time to all your videos from the last 2-3weeks

Electricity in Thailand, a miracle 😅😅but it works 😊 a lamp with battery recommended 🚴♂️🤘🏼🇹🇭😊
Somedays BKK will be like Tokyo. No wires above head.
Weeds in the concrete jungle...
wow. looks so much nicer👍
I heard nepal Kathmandu wants to do this but is not sure how they will do it.
น่าจะใช้เวลาประมาน10ปีกว่าจะเสร็จ เพราะกรุงเทพมหานครมีขนาดใหญ่มากครับ
Merci, pleasure to see the real side of Thaïland
look forward to seeing the improvements…..since completion of residence near klaeng we get to BKK maybe twice a month….bedankt!
Wow soo cool good vlog ❤🙏🙏🙏
Great that you documented this.
I always wonder why these electrical wires are not placed underground to complement the beauty of Bangkok?... Thank u
Waiting for time and money to do it.

Nice bike ride Jeroen

Kalau wisata kabel ruwet di sini aja mister ,😅 anda akan terkagum-kagum dengan aesthetic nya juntaian kabel yg mirip koloni jaring laba-laba
the question is: how do they know which wire needs to be cut, because the poles support so many wires?😁🤣😂🤣😅

We're always fascinated by these web of wires😊 Good to see they are improving the situation👍
On one side it takes of the classical charm haha. What the fuck are all those cables? How could they know what is what... crazy.
Are the new cables already laid underground? Or will theyvdo it afterwards?
Nice video again Jeroen
So happy. I have lived here 45 years. I hate them so much.
Big like for the last two videos jereon,,,,😊😊😊😊

Thanks Jeroen! Always good seeing you. Bangkok is always improving.
I wonder if they will leave one Soi with old wires Tangled and Original State as a Tourist/ instagram Spot to remind Tourists what Was!! 💥💥💥💰😊
Love Bangkok❤
hi mate, do you use and stabilizer or other thing for holding the camera?
I have a gimbal by Insta 360
Very glad🎉

Good thing that you just film this moment , as you said let see this area again next year.
They removed electric wire first, next step is remove internet wire (lower level) later.
Can't wait to see it all in August ;-)
Thanks.
Good guy, report the beauty of the city.🎉
I’d love to see your report of Wireless Road. Is it now wireless too.
Nice to see that they move/delete all the Lines. Hell of a job. 🙏

I'm glad I got to see the "cables of Bangkok" when I visited this year. Black spaghetti for sure. 😂
For Bangkok, they need to work on waste management n water bodies.. nothing else does matter.
I wouldn't call it major upgrades. More like, things that they should've taken care of 20 years ago. 😑
Well if it wasn't done for all those years, it's pretty major now right ;-)
Well Thailand should’ve built the Kra Canal 50 yrs ago then Singapore and KL would not be what it is today!!!
