Can’t imagine losing my father, and then going through a life-changing night like this only 3 months later at his age. Wishing him the best, I’m sure his Father is proud
I've noticed that as well, he was almost crying there. Such a weird, sudden death, feel very sorry for Matvei and hist family, I hope he creates a great future and career with Flyers
3 years in the KHL is honestly not even that bad at all. Let him tear it up and come over when he's 21. Kaprisov was 23 when he came over right? And look at the impact he had when he showed up! Can't wait to see Michkov be a core piece of our future!
At the end of the interview, it is clear that it is very difficult for Matvey to talk about dad...I really want to wish Matvey that his dream really came true!)
Not sure I have ever been more excited about a Flyers player in my life. Wasn't born during the Lindros draft but man does Michkov get me excited as a fan. If he truly wanted the Flyer's to pick him like they say, he may be one of the best to ever put on the sweater. Heck of a night and the future is bright! So stoked!
I like this kids attitude, I can see his termination and how bad he wants to play for the Flyers. I can definitely see him making a change in Philadelphia and taking the Flyers in the right direction.
I like his attitude and with him being so close with his father and the work they did together to get Matvei to where he is today as a young man and hockey player you can’t help yourself but to root for him. Welcome to Philadelphia buddy can’t wait for you to get over here and wear the orange and black. Let’s go Flyers!!!
I lost my grandparents (mom’s side) to Covid at the start of the pandemic in March 2020. They weren’t doing well physically but to lose them one day apart was traumatic. My mom also got gravely ill from covid and after she got home from the hospital, she was on an oxygen machine for two months. I can’t imagine what Michkov went through losing his father as a teenager. Guy needed a hug from someone in that moment. He’s lighting it up for the Flyers right now. If I lost my mother to covid I don’t know how my family would’ve moved forward. She’s the rock of our family.
This is who I wanted the Flyers to get but thought that he would be gone by 4 or 5. To get him at 7 is a steal. Once I heard Danny was open to drafting him I was hopeful. Great 1st pick for Danny!!
I'm learning Russian so I can tell this man that I want him to be a Flyer for life in his native tongue and so he knows at least one dipshit in this fanbase wants him to be here and feel welcome! I'm so happy and excited! Daniel Briere is the most handsome and most talented GM in the NHL

this guy from Austria is not worth half a michkov. everyone who was ahead of Philadelphia was afraid to choose him because of politics. sport is very politicized now and it's sad. the era of democracy in the United States has ended.
Really feel for this kid and whatever happened to his father...it looks sketchy. And he died less than 3 months ago. RIP Andrei Michkov. I hope your son is able to make you and your family proud and get that Stanley Cup. I hope Matvei is able to get them out of the situation in Russia safely as soon as he can.
Surprised that this talent was only 7th pick but anyway it was a great draft by Flyers. This Russian kid is full of sincerity, confidence, determination and most importantly his love at first sight for the Flyers.
@@kyleeckert1549 It's obvious at this point that Michkov was only interested to come in the NHL league to play for a big market. I think the choice came down to either MTL, PHI or WSH.
Briere selecting Michkov illustrates that the Flyers are indeed embarking on a "New Era of Orange", as I couldn't see Hextall or especially Holmgren (not to mention ol' cheap-shot 'Clarkie') taking a Russian kid who could be a superstar but is contractually obligated to his KHL team over a grinder like Ryan Leonard who those failed GMs would have looked at as an archetypal Flyer. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of physical play and became a Flyers fan during the Lindros era, but sometimes you have to take a superstar over a top-nine grinder and this was one of those times, thanks Danny.
