Just ordered the Garmin Epix 2. I'm having a hard time justifying the extra $200 when all of those features are available on foreflight. Was not a fan of the Garmin Pilot app compared to foreflight. As a pilot, it does make me nerd out a bit having the features on my watch, but not sure its worth it. Would be nice if Garmin would allow us to download the pilot apps at a later date if we want them instead of buying a new device. It is the same device as the Epix 2, just additional software. That is the huge downside of Garmin products. even if their device can handle the software, they want us to buy a new device. So instead of being like the Apple Watch where we can customize the user experience on the same device, Garmin presets the user experience and has a million "different" devices. Not a very customer focused approach.
If you are a foreflight user, and your avionics are not garmin is there still any value in getting the watch, or is this really geared only to garmin pilot?
95% of the features work without any aviation app, so there’s still a lot of valuable features. The only real features for Garmin Pilot are flight plan sync, smart glide/nearest, and the inReach. All the weather updates come from the free Garmin Connect app
Does the weather info and map overlay update in flight? I know it needs to be connected to the phone via far in connect which makes me think it doesn’t unless I have cell reception?
Yes, you do need to be connected to your phone and it needs to have an internet connection. Otherwise the radar won't update (the map data is stored, though).
No subscription required for most features. If you want to sync flight plans you’ll need a Garmin Pilot subscription. But the Garmin Connect app is free.
It is larger - 33mm vs. 30.4mm for the D2 Delta PX. The resolution is also much higher - 416 x 416 pixels vs. 240 x 240 on the D2 Delta PX. It cannot sync flight plans to ForeFlight.
@@sportyspilotshop That screen looks amazing. I like the page that shows wind as well. Very helpful info, flying into fields with no weather. I ordered one from you today...I'm going to relegate my D2 Delta PX, to off roading and motorcycle duty. It's really a shame they didn't build in flight plan sharing. Even if it had to come from my G3X.

Get mine in 2 days. Might do an in depth review in near future.🛩
I’m gonna buy one, so people think I’m a pilot😂
So what are you? An Uber driver?

Can I sync a FP from Foreflight? Also, is this screen larger than the D2 Delta PX?
