Great in depth review, exactly what I have been waiting for. Perfect timing for black Friday sales. This will be my first apple watch and looking forward to it. Keep up the great work.
Regarding heart rate, using the supplied Outdoor Walk app I’ve found the reported heart rate can be off as much as 40 bpm compared to the Heart Rate app or the third part Cardio app. If in the middle of the walk I use the Heart Rate app to check, the Outdoor Walk app immediately switched its reported bpm to match. The Outdoor Walk app also just blanks out at times and does not report bpm at all.
Durability should be the same with nearly all Apple Watches, Series 3 and newer. That said, on the LAST day of filming B roll for my Series 4 review (the day before I published it), I dropped mine on a tile floor. Completely shattered the display. 🤦♂️ Had to go purchase another one that night to get the rest of my filming done. Whoops!

@@DesFit did you have any trouble with the Apple Watch 6 recording sleep data? In my case, the watch is not recording any data for past 2 nights. Will the watch automatically track sleep even if I don’t turn on the “sleep mode”? Like in Fitbit, when you sleep, it automatically tracks the data. Of course, my Apple Watch battery was in the 80-90% range. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
I returned my series 6, cause I have tattoos on my wrists, and they interfere with wrist detection. My workouts pause, no stand time or notifications. I went back to my series 5. The LED setup on the 6, is totally different than on the 5.
I am considering pairing my new iPhone SE 2020 with an Apple Watch Series 6 or an Apple Watch SE 2020. I'm just wondering if the Walking fitness app has a similar live steps-per-minute (SPM) cadence (pace) readout that my old Amazfit Pace fitness watch have. I use this feature to monitor my brisk walking pace if it matches with the beats-per-minute (BPM) music I listen to on my on-ear Bluetooth music player. I’ve been to several UA-cam videos on Apple watch fitness app and I have not determined if it has this live SPM readout. All, however, have average cadence shown in strides in the fitness app summary after end of workout.
@@DesFit do you know if it’s possible to get turn-by-turn directions during a workout (e.g. an outdoor run)? I’m switching over from my fenix 6 pro and that’s the main feature I can’t figure out on the Apple Watch Series 6 (I’m guessing it’s not possible)
Great review, I was waiting for your review in order to make my final decision to upgrade from AW4. Couldn't wait so I got the AW6 a week ago, really enjoy it. And as you say, it's a worthy upgrade coming from the 4. Keep up the good reviews, thanks!
Hey Des, have you done a video about how the Apple watch calculates its calories burnt in its move circle and compared it to other devices? I'd love to learn more about that especially if it comes from you!
I have a question. How to compare GPS tracking multiple devices on the same screen? Is there an app or a website for that? And how to export GPS data from apple watch? I'm using aw s5, and it doesn't track my route; it just shows my starting point on the map. What is the solution for that?
Is there an app that will give me a email or downloadable detailed by second or minute line graph of my heart rate similar to what you have in your video?
realistically, how accurate are the fitness trackers in giving you data on REM, deep and light sleep? without polysomnography, what's the point of having all these numbers provided to you?
Quick question...is there a way to track steps during an activity such as walk or run, and not just all day steps? Sorry, new to the Apple Watch, but activity steps is very important to me. Also have a 945. Trying to decide which one to keep. Thanks again for all of your help, and all the great videos!
Hi Great video, still would you tell me how to export the datas either from the watch or the phone for analysis? I would like to take a closer look at the data. I used to ba able to do that using a polar watch but I don’t know how to do that from apple products. Thank you
Good review. Unfortunately I’ve never had my AW6 detect a workout. I don’t often forget to start a workout but when I have it hasn’t prompted me. What it does do, annoyingly, is detect when I’ve paused, often for a bathroom break, and requires that I hit a button to dismiss its suggestion that I’ve completed it. On a possibly unrelated note, it’s at close to 100% accuracy at detecting when I’m washing my hands.
That’s strange about the workout detection. The only time I had issues was when I wore my watch on the opposite wrist than what I had set up in the app.
Love the per hour thing and scenario presentation. Easy to understand for me esp when paused. Hope the background doesnt interfere with words esp that light in the back vs plain background color when presenting data with voice over. I am looking at purchasing an Apple Watch. One key feature for me is having a watch that provides real-time pace alerts to keep me on track for my goal pace. I understand series 5 (watch OS5) has this, has this feature been kept on the further upgrades? I can not find anything online, all the information I find is it is only available on watch OS5. Can you make a video to compare fitness apps on watch 6. Difference between Polar Beat v Strava apps. Also using chest strap vs wrist sensor for the apps and how to pair it with your watch and which is most accurate.
Also, is this feature constantly reading your pace and if out will notify you in real time as opposed to every mile/km?
Thanks in advance
Can you use a iPhone 6 with a series 6?
