    Brought a Haier used two months ago and then suddenly I had the same problem with a Haier Model: HVTM04ABB and thanks to this guy it cost me about $6 in parts and about a hr total in time. If I hadn't found this I would have either trashed it or had to pay someone 50+ dollars for a service call. You are the HERO of youtube. Most techs said they didn't even want to work with a Haier product, thanks man! I OWE YOU BIG TIME.

    Thanks a lot for your help. Local providers expected to get almost 100 € for repairing a FAGOR VT-6. Now I can do it myself for less than USD$2. Thanks a lot my friend from Spain.

    Okay, excellent instructions. Thanks very much. There is but one thing to clear up. You state that the lettering on the device goes to the warm side. This is not always the case. I bought a device via Amazon in which the lettering was on the cold side. Perhaps a more reliable method would be to use the position of the red and black wires which apparently always the same. The original device when looking at the lettering has the red wire on the right as you face it as does my replacement device.

    Thank you Ken in Orlando. I followed the instructions given here and was able to fix my wine cooler. Without the video it would have gone in the trash, great video!

    Thanks for the vid. If I want to swap the INSIDE fan, would I do this from the back of the unit or the front (inside)? In this video you worked on the OUTSIDE fan and the heatsinks (x2) but not the inside fan. Appreciate it

    I have an SPT dual zone wine cooler. Testing the connections as you've mentioned, I get 4.63 volts DC on the top and 5.10 volts DC on the bottom board connections. Unit runs, never cools. Top heatsink gets warm, bottom heatsink is cool.

    Great video... I fixed mine for less than $5.00. FYI, the Peltier Thermoelectric I bought from China off Ebay was reversed in regards to hot one side cold on the other. No big deal to flipped and reinstalled.

      You can always verify it first with a car battery... one sides warm, the other is cool. I've been hearing the polarity thing isn't always right.

    I have an Igloo wine cooler. Looks like the same parts. I took off the fan and cleaned a massive amount of dust out. I'm hoping that does the trick. One (possibly dumb) question. I can't remember which way to put the fan back on. It can go one from either side. Should the label side be out? How do you tell which way it should go? Does it matter? It looks the same to me. When I turned it on the fan is pushing air into the wine cooler. Is that how it should be? Thx.

    Mine has a dual unit ( black and decker) only gets to about 50 deg. What temp should it be cooling at? I just thought these units were bad at cooling but nowThinking of doing this fix... just for fun ;).

    Thanks for this great video ... I don't have a Haier but the system is identical. I found no one who could repair my cabinet but after watching this video I took out the parts and purchased what I needed from ebay (just had to search on the partnumber). I'm pretty sure I will fix this when the parts arrive. :)

    I followed your great instructions and found the haier part I need for the Haier HVW18 Cellar that I have. The part iis TEC1-12705A. Under that number is BC 2008/09. I looked online for that part, but I can't find it. Do you know if TEC1-12705 will work? I don't know what the "A" represents.

    My unit quit working within a couple of years of purchase and has not cooled since. I would like to dig into it to see if this is the answer however, not sure I want to buy all of the stuff I might need to repair i.e. heat sink paste. I don't mind buying all of the parts I need. How important is the heat sink paste and is there an alternative? Thanks...

    Thank you thank you thank you!!! I was about to throw mine away! I have ordered the Peltier part for $10. I need 3 of them for my unit because it is dual cooling, but so much cheaper than replacing the unit!!

    How many Watts should the Peltier unit be? I saw a few on Amazon and ordered a 96W one, and it will get to 60F with 2 cooling units, but I'm aiming at 40F. What else can I check or do I need more powerful Peltier units?

    Hello,
    my small desktop refrigerator use to be so cold that ice would form over the sink. For several years now it is only slightly colder than the surrounding air. Before I disassemble the Peltier unit, is there any chance that I may just need to replace the fan? The fan currently functions but it may not be as powerful as it use to be 10 years ago. Any advise is appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Eric

    Do you know the current that is consuming? I am testing the same peltier as yours in a box with dimensions 43x36x15cm and with 1 peltier, the temperature from 17.5 degrees Celcius has gone down to 9 degrees Celcuis. I have a problem about these as when giving power to this peltier, it is consuming only 3.9A not the MAX 6A. Did you experience this? what is the least temperature that your wine cellar goes?
    thanks

    thank you .. you confirmed my thorts on this being a fairly easy fix. I was wondering. if i got a more powerful Peltier would it make the cooler beter or would it just fry things? iv fitted a more powerful extractor fan so far to my wine cooler :) I keep finding the eskis and wine coolers on the side of the road and they all have the same problem haha. win! thanks again great video

    I do recommend testing the peltier unit with a 1.2 - 1.5 v battery. Just a quick connection will tell you the correct sides without destroying anything.

  • @fenreon

    heat sink paste is very cheap online. the way peltiers work, you have to pull the heat away from the hot side. the more heat you pull, the colder the other side gets. the paste allows for heat transfer.

    My Haier mini fridge quit working too but the fans would not turn and no voltage at the terminals. Cut the wires to the TEC module and tried again. Once I did this the fans ran fine and the output voltage was 12V. Replaced the TEC and voila! TEC unit was shorted

  • @chriss5667

    I have a different make that uses twin fan intake and single fan to blow cool air into the cooled compartment. The voltage to the peltier is only 2 volts but the board looks fine (no bulging caps etc.) The peltier unit has no markings at all and I see there are some that run on a max. of 2.4vdc.
    Is there a way of finding out which peltier unit I have? Maybe another fault altogether?

    How do you (or the MFG) of such refridgerators keep the 120 F heat from fillling up the room where such a fridgerator unit is being used? I understand that a TEC1-12706 module uses 12 VDC at 5 AMP but how is the heat dissipated so that the room near bty does not get HOT? Look forward to your answer... Tim

    • @esqueue
      @esqueue 8 років тому

      Your typical refrigerator, coolers and computers put off more heat. This, while not nearly as effective as a compressor driven refrigerator put off less heat due to their small cooling capacity requirements.

    • @peach8352
      @peach8352 6 років тому

      You are only removing heat from a very small space. That heat is easily absorbed into the much larger space of the room with no noticeable impact.

    Is this the same "fix" for all Haier models? We have the BC112G and just stopped working. I hate to get rid of it as we really use it, but know an appliance company will charge as much as a new fridge to fix.

    Checked it all .. didn't work fan gets voltage from a board and connects to the T E C has red and black wires .. rewired it the same . Maybe the T E C is bad but same results . Any other suggestions ?

    • @keninorlando9
      @keninorlando9  10 років тому

      1: Is fan turning? 2: Is there voltage on the red/black wires? These voltages are (usually) independent from each other. If the voltage is there ( measured from the TEC's red/black wires) AND the fan is turning, then the TEC is either backwards, not mounted correctly, or bad.
      I've had quite a few "customers" install these backwards and misapply the heat sink compound. ( too much, too little ).

      +Wendell Smith Too many things can cause this from the main power supply, to a bad main board to a shorted ac plug... way beyond the scope of this conversation. You'll need to actively troubleshoot. Nothing more I can contribute.

    Great video, just a comment don't ever buy a cuisinart cooler, I found one on the side of the road and I think it cools similar to this unit so I tried to fix it. The access panel is difficult to remove and has specialty screws that I've never seen before. I had to destroy the panel and hammer one out just to see what one looked like.

    • @keninorlando9
      @keninorlando9  8 років тому

      Hi... test the fan - disconnect the fan and apply voltage from another source ( usually 12v ). If the fan spins, the board is not supplying power, if the fan doesn't spin replace the fan.
      If it's the board that's beyond the scope of helping here but if you're techy check: driver transistor or relay, driver source, opto coupler, fan +v... Again, I can't explain those things here.

    • @keninorlando9
      @keninorlando9  10 років тому

      1: This is not a "method" - it's the replacement of a defective part
      2: If you have voltage to the TEC and the fan is turning, then you've installed the TEC unit incorrectly ( backwards, too much or too little thermal pasted, you damaged the TEC, or the TEC was defective ).
      It's simply science. Two dissimilar metals. Pass a current and one side it HOT and one side is COLD. If replacing the TEC did not work, check your work, check your voltage, check you fan. and that's that. There's no magic to it.
