    it's worth mentioning that this is the list prior to the wars of reaving. Within ten years, blood spirit, fire mandrill, ice hellion, steel viper would all be annihilated. Goliath scorpion and Snow raven abjured and Hells horse split asunder to form the new Stone Lion clan.

    • @CriticalRocket

      Yeah but since this game will likely never go past 3060 anyway and Battletech basically ended as a FASA product not long after the 3060 books, it's not a massive deal. Although I see why the new owners destroyed a bunch of clans because they had too many to write interesting stuff for.

    • @laxrulz7
      @laxrulz7 8 років тому +1

      I hope you're wrong but I fear you're right. I'd love to see the new owners hit delete on everything after the Smoke Jaguars annihilation. I know they won't but a guy can wish.
      Also, I really hope we get Heavy Lasers, MRMs, ATMs, Rotary ACs and Heavy Assault Gauss someday (along with deployable Elementals)... Unfortunately, if it ever happens, I'm sure it'll be in MWO 2.0: the Enrichening!

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  8 років тому +2

      Personally if they add those later weapons I will likely stop playing MWO since it's not really Battletech for me at that point. I will likely just move over to HBS and it's Battletech game since that will focus on the era I like. I would still do videos of MWO, but actually playing it for longer periods would stop since.....I just don't like the ridiculous weapons they added for the sake of adding weapons.

    I liked the contemptuous tone you used when first stating the name of the Smoke Jaguars. An interesting choice of subject matter, you can understand much about the clans by looking at the circumstances of these fallen members.

    Theres actually a few more to add to the pile when you factor in both abjuration and the extended time line:
    Wolf-in-exile: Abjured due to it's nature as the warden component of clan wolf that escaped absorption by clan Jade falcon during the Falcon-wolf conflict of the late 3050's,
    Snow Raven: Driven from the homeworlds by Clan Steel viper as part of the wars of reaving, they lost much of their clan while in transit to the outworlds alliance during an ambush by a leviathan class warship.
    Blood spirit: During the war of reaving they went all in on conflict with Star adder and during retaliatory strikes armed their civilian castes as an auxillary militia. This would ultimately ensure their annihilation by Star adder.
    Ice hellion: Choosing to blitzkrieg about clan space during the wars of reaving, clan Ice hellion ultimately suffered catastrophic losses before being absorbed by clan Goliath scorpion.
    Goliath scorpion: Although they made it through the reavings almost completely intact, they were found to have engaged in experimentation with Legacies from bondsmen taken from Eridani light horse personel and were abjured.
    Steel viper: annihilated at the end of the wars of reaving.
    Fire Mandrils: incapable of working in cohesion, the Kindraa found themselves easy pickings for the other clans during the wars of reaving.

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  8 років тому

      Yeah post 3060 the majority are essentially written out. Makes sense given the number of clans and nothing to really do with them. But the lorewarrior series sticks to 3060 as it's limit since that was the end of the FASA run Battletech. Wolf in exile is one I missed out simply because explaining that massive divide is something I am planning on for a later video.

      Yeah, WiE is one of those cases that you can't really cover with any sort of brevity due to the fact they only exist due to the Falcon-wolf war (which needs a fair bit of explanation in it's own right).
      I kind of figured that the wars of reaving were kind of an afterthought by the writers, since their had been questions raised as to why the home clans (many of them warden) didn't launch to fight the blakists; this would have been exactly the kind of thing that Kerensky wanted them to come out of reserve for. Further, "the society" bore way too many thematic similarities to the WoB and it's tactics to be a coincidence.

      Agreed. Some of the clans are cool thematically but I can imagine being the writing team and trying to come up with all these different ways of keeping every single clan active in the narrative without it coming across as the writing team trying to do just that. Hell the periphery were there from the day dot and barely get any real time to do anything in the overarching plot of Battletech, so what chance did the non invading clans ever have.

    • @guitarhausdoesntknowwhatac3285
      @guitarhausdoesntknowwhatac3285 8 років тому +1

      Critical Rocket
      The irony is that if they hadn't decided to go with a large scale apocalyptic clusterfuck, then the question of the home clans would never have needed to be addressed; they simply didn't have the power for the most part to muscle their way in.
      Which after a fashion is actually kind of sad since a lot of the home clans were actually more interesting then the falcons were.
      As an interesting side note though: the upcoming Battletech game from HBS is going to be set in a largely under developed corner of the periphery; the space between the Magistracy and the Concordat to be precise, which should be fun :)

    How in the world did the Widowmakers get Absorbed for treating civilians badly when the Smoke Jaguars were left alone until the Inner Sphere invasion?

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  6 років тому +2

      Mainly because the smoke jags were quite powerful compared and thus had the military to fight any challenges regarding their attitude.

      An interesting idea, had the clans never returned they quite possibly would have whittled each other down to a single clan and then possibly returned as a unified whole. A much more dangerous prospect.

      That was one of the problems that started the eventual downfall of the Wolverines. It was during operation Klondike where orders came about that resulted in excessive casualties and inter clan fighting briefly. The seed was sown then basically.

    So, going off of what happened with the Nova Cats, would not Clan Wolf fall under the scope of this video?

    • @CriticalRocket

      Well the Wolf clan did have a severe schism at one point but ultimately came back from the brink and in the current books took over Terra to become the ilclan. I wish they had made a soucebook covering the period where we had clan jade wolf as well.

      I don't think we have ever had canonical truth about the Wolverines. Hints that there was more to it and conflicting accounts from in game personas. It's actually one of the frustrating things about the BT franchise. The way they tell their stories makes figuring out "real" history very difficult.

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  8 років тому +1

      There is a truth to it yes. The events that lead to their eventual destruction paint the Wolverine clan as the only sane clan in the bunch and through the actions of the widowmakers and kerensky himself, they were painted as villains.

      @@laxrulz7 Old comment, I know. But the fact that there's multiple conflicting points of view and histories is one of the reasons why I like Battletech. It adds more authenticity to it. Half of what we take as "true" is the best guess done by ComStar. In most cases it's correct, but not always.

      I will look into the original books. I am thinking the star league is the best source of the history of Battletech. Ok. Next bunch of lorewarrior vids are interconnected, detailing the rise of the league, it's golden age and it's eventual fall into chaos.

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  7 років тому +1

      Technically yes, but given the current timeline of PGI's MWO I didn't want to go too far forward given a lot of MechWarrior players don't know about the clan invasion specifics let alone the post invasion borders etc. If they advance the timeline I will get around to doing a post invasion video talking about the ghost bear dominion, clan wolf in exile, nova cats being absorbed into kurita and things like the Battle of Coventry.

    After reading your comments, I see that you're sticking to the 3060's. Even then though, wouldn't Clan Wolf be considered Abjured? Clan WiE is the remnants of the original clan, Ward's Clan Wolf is technically an offshoot of Clan Jade Falcon in the eyes of Clan law.

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  5 років тому +1

      I didn't use the later books for the reason that clan wolf in exile is one of those confusing elements for newer people to the universe. It requires explaining a lot of characters in the world and how they ended up forming the exiles while the others create that whole clan jade wolf thing. Also when this was made, MWO had not gone to the 3060 period and talking about stuff beyond that time I think would have created more questions again.
      Still I think I will get to the jade wolf/wolf in exile lorewarrior next year.

    • @TheInsomniaddict
      @TheInsomniaddict 5 років тому +1

      @@CriticalRocket Cool. Thanks for the response. CWiE is a bit confusing and I can see why you ruled it out as a "fallen" clan. It really is one of the more interesting modern "classic" tales of the Clans and will be interesting to hear. The whole machinations over the founding of Bloodname Kell is of interest itself, let alone how the Crusader/Warden factions divided between the two Wolves.
