Before everyone jumps to conclusions; I did put the HPI ignition back on and you won't believe the results... Anyways... Fuel in the video is Sunoco 110 with Klotz Super Techniplate 38:1. Jetting in this video is 52 pilot, 182 main and middle position on the needle. Oh yea... YOU ROCK!! 🤘🤘🤘
If it wasn’t a kick start It’s so easy to pull the spark plug so there’s no compression and time it with a gun by rolling it over. If there’s a way you could possibly use an impact on the fly wheel to turn the motor over while you make your timing marks on the fly wheel. I build 2 stroke mercury motors and timing is the most important part. Using a timing gun I start at 0° and advance 1°-2° at a time til I’m happy with that tune. I’ve never used a timing gun on a 1 cylinder 2 stroke motor but what I do know is you can get very meticulous with your timing preference when using a timing gun
glad the hpi worked out. i was going to ask you if you should closed the gap on the plug since its a high compression engine and if you thought it was blowing the spark out.
Good to hear you put the hpi back on. Always good to hear you tried something for the 250r community and not just follow what everyone else is using. If it was easy everyone would do it. Cant wait to see the difference.
I’m a motocross guy. (Bikes) but I give my dad crap because he can’t start a bike easily or even put it on a stand correctly but it’s all technique not strength. I know 13 year old 110lb kids that can start a big bike after a crash no problem.
i used to ride a 85 fourtrx 250.... thing used to really piss me off , lol... one time it kicked back and damn near broke my ankle.. i destroyed the front fender Lol... that bike was a death trap.
Been there from a buddies 250r 3 wheeler. A 250 kickback to the shin sucks. Was young and dumb. MX boot for me every time I kick anything these days. Except for a 125
As someone who has a cr500. Starting is a technique, you’ll get the hang of it and realize it only takes a few inches to actually fire up. Couple easy kicks build that compression and put everything into that last kick. It’ll save the foot as well lol. Love the build
15:04 I´ve seen these video a couple of times already and have never noticed Matt´s t-shirt. Nice. Even more into context given the current situation with the electric vehicles coming out these days (which don´t even have more than one or two gears). Nice one.
The roast of 2vintage was epic. its really simple. this guy michael sabo, takes his time, buys quality parts and installs them correctly. 2vintage buys clapped out bikes, "fixes" them says they are mint and marks up the price to poor unsuspecting buyers
Amazing man. From the start I never liked that ignition system. Glad you figured it out it truly is awesome to finally see it run after following your build for so long!
I see that you're adjusting the idle by unthreading and tightening the throttle cable, keep that thing loose (as in threaded all the way in) and make all of your adjustments on your carb. It will run way better and you won't have to adjust things as often.
I just finished building 86 lt250r. And 91. Should be doing videos like this guy. Down in good old Canada nothing this clean tho. I must say beautiful rig.
OOOOMMMMMGGGGGG I almost fell off the damn toilet seat when you said I feel like (2vintage) when you were kicking that thing!!!! Lmao ty for the laugh mike!!! Damn that’s the baddest 250r on the planet
Now for all of us old school dudes , you know aka " old farts " the 250r refers to the three wheeler , and yours is the 250trx also known as the four tax 😁 just keeping you youngsters straight 👍 because all of that rode 85 and 86 250r's back in the day didn't want anything to do withe four tax when they came out !!! Because it was the stupid government that banned the three wheelers fro production after 1986 , so it was like the government was trying to force us to ride a quad 🤨 and so you know the 250r three wheeler would stink on the 250trx in a drag race , and that's why most the quad guys bought banshees . Man I miss the smell of the two strokes runnning castor bean oil premix in their bikes !!! Long live the two strokes!!!!
its so nice watching a bike build from someone who didnt get all the parts free from sponsors. also kudos to u for notcursing so much i would have punched a hole in the wall
My buddies and myself have been using Klotz lubricants since early 90s , the oil is top notch, I run the Klotz Uplon in my modern four strokes with VP T4 fuel
Sounds sweet man! I know you have some serious hours logged into that beast but remember that all the best builds do 👍🏼 congrats on the first start and an absolutely beautiful build!
Michael Sabo Trick is timing your kick just right. Halfway through the compression stroke give it the beans and commit. If you don’t, she’ll bite back and slam your shin so hard it chips the bone in your shin. Lesson learned. Love my bike. Couldn’t be happier.
Way to stick with it....we owned a 500 zilla before so I know what you were going through, first night we got it, we went through the same fight....love the vids....beautiful beautiful beautiful machine
I started rebuilding my 2008 trx450r and I'm not looking forward to the first start of a 12.1 compression kickstart. Hopefully I won't have to call me 275lb buddy to start it for me everytime I want to ride. Love the bike and keep the rubber side down.......
You need to go juuust pass the tdc so the piston is on its way down and Then kick, The crank will turn 1 extra lap and have 50-70% more chanse to start on first kick. LOVE THE COLOR COMBO Massive Build !!! LOVE IT
It's always trial and error after a rebuild if you build a high compression race motor. Props on one of the sweetest trx250rs I've seen. Coming at ya with a CR500R😉
Yeah man i kept waiting for you to put the OEM ignition back on it. I have had some really fast Hondas over the years all with stock electronics. And man, if they don't start after a few good kicks, something is wrong. Save the arch of your foot! Learned that lesson the hard way myself.
You probably have it figured out now, but you were advancing the ignition instead of retarding it in your first adjustment. On a big bore, cold start I put the bike in second, and rock the bike back and forth. That gives it a little more fuel in the cylinder and really adds starting. Have a 363, so you have to give it a healthy kick, almost jump on the kicker. It will get easier to start once it breaks in. I am a cr ignition fan myself.
ahhahah for real... dude has 2 very nice trx250r... have only seen him ride them once.. then sold 1. dont even know if he still has the mint one.. i know he sold the big bore one...
@Dane Wilson But not before putting WD-40 on the chain and sprockets. Then cruise around on it spewing smoke calling it a "beast" all while being oblivious to it needing a top end rebuild. Maybe a wheelie or two.
It reminds me of the early 90's and a nasty 250R 3 wheeler I had. Ruined my foot on it. What I finally learned was pull start it when it was fresh and go from there..... I feel for you lol...
Mike I have shared your pain lol, I had Arlan build me a motor a number of years ago with the power valved pro x cylinder and like you I had one H of a time getting it started the first time. It's like I couldn't kick it over fast enough to get a good spark but eventually I got it to light. Rotate the engine just past tdc compression the let up on the kick starter to get a full throw then kick it like you hate it lol. Good luck man...
Thank you man; after talking with Arlan, apparently the older HPI ignitions were really hard to kick, even when timed right. It sound's like you had one of those.
I remember when I was rebuilding my yzf426 and it didn't want to start because I've put an old fouled plug. I was kicking for like an hour and I was ready to take it apart 😂.Always throwing out old plugs from this day
I rode BMX ,and for a couple years had a trx250r . My shin has deeper and meaner scars from kicking that quad over than from slipping a pedal on my bike.
One thing about the 250rtrx is they like to kick back so it’s a good idea to use the riding boot you’ll find out when it kicks back and the kick starter lever hits you in the shin and what makes it worse is when you get hit multiple times in the same spot.
Dude you kicked that way more than I would have, but glad you got it figured out, sounds great can't wait for the next vid. It will run great with the HPI just takes some figuring. 👍
If the After Market Flywheel is lighter than the OEM Flywheel, it may not have enough weight to carry it through its cycle. That would cause it to kick back... it would also explain why the putting the OEM Flywheel back on made such an improvement.
I would turn the other way so you could kick it like it a regular kick start I don’t think I could get used to kicking it forward lol but im glad to see it start its been a long time and I know the coronavirus doesn’t help with being able to get what you need for it and im excited for more videos about this thing man great job🤘
Logans Custom Works that would be even harder lmao dude they are not hard to kick like that at all. It’s barely different from normal. Start it backwards with your left leg???????
I’ve got a high compression 250r too and the best wya to kick it over so it won’t hurt when it kicks back is getting on top of the Kickstarter it will help with starting.
A couple subscribers reached out to me when I was making this video and said the same; it definitely helps; that and to kick all the way through. Thank you man!
My Duncan Racing 305r Powervalve motor that is 17yrs old with same piston, rings, etc. still does that today. Can't start it without out the riding boot.
I bought a 1985 350X back in the day, brand new. That starter would kick your ass everytime unless you slow kicked to TDC. It would fire right up then.
Nice build, miss mine for sure. I run a aftermarket ing. on my RD 400, the spark may look smaller but it’s hotter so don’t judge by eye. Also made a degree wheel and use a magnet to hold it to the flywheel , always best to know where you are .
Man a 250 is ALL technic bring it to the compresion stroke get a nice feel of solid arm jump down on it while you blip the trottle shell start every time
Yeah man, I find top dead centre then BANG!! If I was him I'd modify the the head with a decompression device similar to what you can get for CR 500's . Nothing worse than being miles from base, worn out tired and a bike from hell that won't start🤪. And a good alpinestar boot always helps...😜👍
I use HPI ignition on KTM exc 360 two map CDI. The factory specified notation no earthly use! I used it ignition strobe light and own marking and my ears! After adjustment, the difference is huge. Control endoscope camera the piston! Sorry the english knowledge!
Crf450 coil and new cap at 10.5 to 11 ohm I think will fix the problem Ohm your aftermarket coil because is not getting good spark. Trx has a HP1 coil Crf450 has a MEB coil Now this is the replacement coils for all Cr 125 to Cr 500. And yes I've put all 4 coils on the dyno Kz3,kz4,hp1,meb The MEB and HP1 have more spark And gave the stock cr250 1.5 more HP
Oh yea... YOU ROCK!! 🤘🤘🤘
Frack it sounds awesome!! 💪 luv the official starting footwear sandal and MX boot 💯
If it wasn’t a kick start It’s so easy to pull the spark plug so there’s no compression and time it with a gun by rolling it over. Not necessarily the throttle settings I would have used the first time she fired. Glad you got it going!
Man there’s nothing like a bike staring after putting ur heart and soul into something
100%!
💯 loved that first start on mine.
I’m a motocross guy. (Bikes) but I give my dad crap because he can’t start a bike easily or even put it on a stand correctly but it’s all technique not strength. I know 13 year old 110lb kids that can start a big bike after a crash no problem.
That's a bike? Thought it was a quad..
I started and runned my quad yesterday for the first time in like 2 months and the satisfaction is just on a another level
I love 2 vintage but that roast was pretty damn good
TRX 250R IS MINT..
Love to see him try and kick this he would think it's broke and he will *fix it*
@@gabe10222 2 vintage would say that bike is MINT..lol
Love the 2Vintage reference. I hate Key Board WARRIORS too. Nice to see her running.
“This beast rips” oh it hasn’t been ridden yet.
We all now that feeling of getting pissed after kicking for 40 minutes
Literally lol
i used to ride a 85 fourtrx 250.... thing used to really piss me off , lol... one time it kicked back and damn near broke my ankle.. i destroyed the front fender Lol... that bike was a death trap.
Rn he lookin built like a stretch armstrong doll
Ya I kicked my bike for ten minutes then noticed it had no gas
Yeah im good I'll be sticking with electric start ty 👍
As a 250r owner use a mx boot to start ever time. One slip and it's stiches or staples to the shin. A wet day and nikes didn't mix
Yea but he isn’t following through his kick so he can’t start it
Been there from a buddies 250r 3 wheeler.
Thank you for the advice man; and thanks for watching the build!
15:04 I´ve seen these video a couple of times already and have never noticed Matt´s t-shirt. Nice.
Even more into context given the current situation with the electric vehicles coming out these days (which don´t even have more than one or two gears). Nice one.
Great video, nothin like the sweet sound of that 2-stroke, the quad looks fantastic, one of the cleanest 250r’s I’ve ever seen
The roast of 2vintage was epic. its really simple. this guy michael sabo, takes his time, buys quality parts and installs them correctly. 2vintage buys clapped out bikes, "fixes" them says they are mint and marks up the price to poor unsuspecting buyers
It’s a really nice privilege to watch you at work 👍🏴
Love the organization on the garage and that is one bad ass machine
Thank you Daniel Harrell!
2vintage has 4 strokes that smoke more than that 2. Quad looks and sounds amazing cant wait to actually see it rip...
😂😂😂
The gym is open just to lyk 😂 so u won’t skip leg day 🤣
lol
Glad to hear that the HPI ended up working out, now you can keep the OEM egnition for a backup ☮️
Amazing man. From the start I never liked that ignition system. Glad you figured it out it truly is awesome to finally see it run after following your build for so long!
It takes a man to admit his mistakes to a hundred or so strangers but he's those were very vague
I see that you're adjusting the idle by unthreading and tightening the throttle cable, keep that thing loose (as in threaded all the way in) and make all of your adjustments on your carb. It will run way better and you won't have to adjust things as often.
Good advice; at the time I was just trying to keep it running so I didn't have to kick it more 😂
I just finished building 86 lt250r. And 91. Should be doing videos like this guy. Down in good old Canada nothing this clean tho. I must say beautiful rig.
Mike I've been running that oil for 20 years love that stuff. Any high quality oil will work, but klotz is good stuff. Glad you got her running.
Hell yea man, Klotz for the win, and thank you man!
I love how it turned out!
It’s a gorgeous 250r
Can’t wait for future videos!
Nice to see that the 250R is alive! Super slick build man, loving it 🔥
Thank you Alfredo Perez!
So awesome. My foot and leg hurt watching that. That thing sounds amazing , congratulations bro it’s alive.
Thank you Rex!
OOOOMMMMMGGGGGG I almost fell off the damn toilet seat when you said I feel like (2vintage) when you were kicking that thing!!!! Lmao ty for the laugh mike!!! Damn that’s the baddest 250r on the planet
Btw I am 2 vintage fan too . It was just too funny man
Hahaha, thank you for the love bro 🤘
Michael Sabo Anytime brother I absolutely love your channel and the content keep up the good work man looking forward to new videos

I feel like 2vintage, I peed my pants on that one
My buddies and myself have been using Klotz lubricants since early 90s , the oil is top notch, I run the Klotz Uplon in my modern four strokes with VP T4 fuel
Best stuff out there IMO
2:08 gotta love it. Can't stand that guy. Also gotta love the pure work of art you put together.
Haha, thank you John!
I have always used KLOTZ never had a problem either nice to see someone agrees with me.
Sounds so good! My son and I were stoked to hear it run!!!
Your kicking struggles had me 😂😂😂!!!
Lol, thank you guys for watching!
Sounds sweet man! I know you have some serious hours logged into that beast but remember that all the best builds do 👍🏼 congrats on the first start and an absolutely beautiful build!
Thanks so much man!
I know that I had bad luck with other spark plugs. Always had good luck with NGK on my Honda’s. Your channel rocks.
NGK for the win man! Thank you!
Nice to see and hear the 250R come alive. Excellent job bro.
Me and the family have an 86’ TRX 250r would love to build it up like this one day! Badass!!!
Can’t wait to put my motor back in my 250r. It’s gonna be sweet!
🤘
I dont miss the days of the kick back on my 250r it had a 330 esr kit
To the 2 vintage part got me laughing so much!! SPOT ON MY GUY💯💪👌
I’ve got my 87 trx250r bored and stroked to 370. I can stand on the kick starter for a good second before it goes down. And I’m 280lbs.
Jeeeesus
Michael Sabo Trick is timing your kick just right. Halfway through the compression stroke give it the beans and commit. If you don’t, she’ll bite back and slam your shin so hard it chips the bone in your shin. Lesson learned. Love my bike. Couldn’t be happier.

Thanks so much man; glad to hear I'm not the only one!
I hate kicking over a kick starter without a motocross boot ! Great video man ! Awesome 250r ready for war !
Thank you bro! 🤘
I started rebuilding my 2008 trx450r and I'm not looking forward to the first start of a 12.1 compression kickstart. Hopefully I won't have to call me 275lb buddy to start it for me everytime I want to ride. Love the bike and keep the rubber side down.......
Haha, thank you bro; good luck with your 450 🤘
I envy your patience seems like instead of getting frustrated you just keep checking off the list of possibilities 👍👍
One of the best 250r I've seen in a long time i was waiting on video good job
Thanks so much man!
My gosh I think I’m in love... with the quad, if I needed to clear that up
😂😂
You need to go juuust pass the tdc so the piston is on its way down and Then kick, The crank will turn 1 extra lap and have 50-70% more chanse to start on first kick. LOVE THE COLOR COMBO Massive Build !!! LOVE IT
Dude that thing sounds sick, crazy crazy compression
Thank you Adam 🤘 It's not too bad to kick now that it's timed right.
The ultimate kit starter test😂😂
Awesome video man! Your build is so sick! Top notch editing as always 👌🤘
Thank you bro; means a lot 🤘
The last one I built I pulled it with my truck because of the same issue you was having damn this brings back memories nice build man 🤙
It's always trial and error after a rebuild if you build a high compression race motor.
I know it doesn’t have one. But it idles like it has a huge cam. Love the content. 👍👍👍👍👍
truth; that's probably why I like it 😎🤘
You probably have it figured out now, but you were advancing the ignition instead of retarding it in your first adjustment.
That thing sounds so crisp! Awesome job with the build.
Love the shot at 2vintage, I watch all his vids tho so can’t talk
ahhahah for real... dude has 2 very nice trx250r... have only seen him ride them once.. then sold 1. dont even know if he still has the mint one.. i know he sold the big bore one...
The day has came let's hear the Beast
🤘🤘
Only 4min in and you alreay got a new subscriber ;).
Love your reactions 😂
(with notifications on)
😂😂 Thank you for watching my video and for subscribing SPLBeast!
I was so stocked to see this fire up for the first time
Lewis Bradburn thank you for watching! 🤘
Buddy I’m tellin ya get a lectron
Seth Ploder carbs
You obviously cant tune a carb, pwk is all you need
@Cale Phillips they mellow out the motor a bit though. A perfectly tuned carb is better than a lectron or smart carb
Had the exact same problem with my Yamaha blaster -06. We tried running starts, kicking it over, rolling starts.
Path Finders lmao cuz it was a blaster had one for 2 years absolutely piles of shit youll spend more time workin then riding
Mike I love the 250R. You have made my dream quad. Call 2 vintage up! Maybe he can help you get your 250R running...LMFAO.. Great Video Mike..
@Dane Wilson i sware 😂😂 "got my kawasaki green spray paint here and I'm going to touch up the frame"
@Dane Wilson But not before putting WD-40 on the chain and sprockets. Then cruise around on it spewing smoke calling it a "beast" all while being oblivious to it needing a top end rebuild. Maybe a wheelie or two.
Lol, thank you man!
It reminds me of the early 90's and a nasty 250R 3 wheeler I had. Ruined my foot on it. What I finally learned was pull start it when it was fresh and go from there..... I feel for you lol...
Hear that thing runs it's just worth it...great video man👏
2 vintage and his kicks lol you got me good on that one!
Jesus riding season is going to be over before you get your quad started. Let's gooooo
It sound's like you had one of those.
their we go finally got the big boots on. lol. I love those kick backs
I died we said I feel like 2 vintage 😂
😂
Your prayer got you another subscriber. Awesome work on the 250R looks sharp!
Haha, thank you for subscribing!
I remember when I was rebuilding my yzf426 and it didn't want to start because I've put an old fouled plug. I was kicking for like an hour and I was ready to take it apart 😂.Always throwing out old plugs from this day
Oh man, I know those 426's could be a son of a bitch to start
Good to see you got it running
Nelson Karrer thank you for watching! 🤘
Man that thing is looking great! Hair plugs look pretty good too!
Sounds amazing man. Can’t wait for the dirt rip video 🤟🍻
Thank you bro! 🤘
What a beast, sounds so good can’t wait to see it ripp!!!🤘🤘🤘
I rode BMX ,and for a couple years had a trx250r . My shin has deeper and meaner scars from kicking that quad over than from slipping a pedal on my bike.
One thing about the 250rtrx is they like to kick back so it’s a good idea to use the riding boot you’ll find out when it kicks back and the kick starter lever hits you in the shin and what makes it worse is when you get hit multiple times in the same spot.
I’ve always found it helpful to spray some starter fluid in the intake
Gotta be careful with that if its a 2 stroke especially. They do make starting fluid with lubricant in it though if you have to do it.
Michael Sabo very true, it’s a sweet build man and glad you got it dialed in. Be safe out there
Dude you kicked that way more than I would have, but glad you got it figured out, sounds great can't wait for the next vid. It will run great with the HPI just takes some figuring. 👍
Absolutely man, I did get the HPI figured out and it runs great now!
Prayer always work man great to see the bike starting cant wait to see videos of you ripping it keep up the great work bro.
Thank you bro! 🤘
I absolutely love it I sound like to Vintage I've messaged on his videos so many times about him being a little wimp about starting bikes
If the After Market Flywheel is lighter than the OEM Flywheel, it may not have enough weight to carry it through its cycle. That would cause it to kick back... it would also explain why the putting the OEM Flywheel back on made such an improvement.
that quad is soooo f***ing cool
Thank you bro! 🤘
Never seems to not amaze me once again great video amazing built cant wait to see u ripping it!!!
Thank you andrew jackson!
love 2vintage
I would turn the other way so you could kick it like it a regular kick start I don’t think I could get used to kicking it forward lol but im glad to see it start its been a long time and I know the coronavirus doesn’t help with being able to get what you need for it and im excited for more videos about this thing man great job🤘
You can’t turn it around lol
Mc's Bike life not the kickstarter im talking about him turning around to kick it thats what I would do.
Logans Custom Works that would be even harder lmao dude they are not hard to kick like that at all. It’s barely different from normal. Start it backwards with your left leg???????
Mc's Bike life no still the right leg its how I used to start my dirt bike that was too big for me when I was a kid lol
Haha, I think that would be an art in itself man; the forward kick does feel weird at first. Thank you!
And by the way sickest 250 build on UA-cam 🤘🏽
Thank you bro! 🤘
Love the sound of a two stoke
🤘
My Duncan Racing 305r Powervalve motor that is 17yrs old with same piston, rings, etc. still does that today. Can't start it without out the riding boot.
I bought a 1985 350X back in the day, brand new. That starter would kick your ass everytime unless you slow kicked to TDC. It would fire right up then.
This build belongs in a quad museum🙏🏽🙏🏽 set up a fan meet and ride out at AAOA in Pa
Thank you bro; maybe a fan meetup in the future 🤘
Man that sounds awesome. Great build man awesome job.
Nice build, miss mine for sure. I run a aftermarket ing. on my RD 400, the spark may look smaller but it’s hotter so don’t judge by eye. Also made a degree wheel and use a magnet to hold it to the flywheel , always best to know where you are .
Killer build....would be happy to own this machine......
Man a 250 is ALL technic bring it to the compresion stroke get a nice feel of solid arm jump down on it while you blip the trottle shell start every time
I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning
Dude sometimes I go in the garage just for fix
Love the save the manuals shirt on ol buddy
Sounds so Sick! Gotta love those instructions. My 300 manual has some annoying shit like that.
Do a compression stroke then kick a es not a dirt bike you can’t just give it hell and kick it
Yeah man, I find top dead centre then BANG!!
If I was him I'd modify the the head with a decompression device similar to what you can get for CR 500's . Nothing worse than being miles from base, worn out tired and a bike from hell that won't start🤪. And a good alpinestar boot always helps...😜👍
@@andybowyer3602 bro I swear. Some people will never learn. Boots boots boots chest plate helmet and goggles and GLOVES lol
I use HPI ignition on KTM exc 360 two map CDI. The factory specified notation no earthly use! I used it ignition strobe light and own marking and my ears! After adjustment, the difference is huge. Control endoscope camera the piston! Sorry the english knowledge!
Crf450 coil and new cap at 10.5 to 11 ohm I think will fix the problem
Ohm your aftermarket coil because is not getting good spark.
Trx has a HP1 coil
Crf450 has a MEB coil
Now this is the replacement coils for all Cr 125 to Cr 500.
And yes I've put all 4 coils on the dyno
Kz3,kz4,hp1,meb
The MEB and HP1 have more spark
And gave the stock cr250 1.5 more HP
I appreciate all the info man; thank you! 1.5HP is huge!
I need to try that on my stock ignition. I have a 450 in the garage to pull from.

Ohm your cap on your 250 coil.
If it's below 5 ohms it's no good
The coil will give you a hotter and cleaner burn on your plug
@@250race thanks for the info.
