He swings and folks it is gone another home run from our man Alex who never fails to keep us paying attention for his next up at bat! Great lesson as usual.
That 3 finger version of an upper register m7 triad on the G/B/E strings took me a long time to be able to grab on the fly, but it's super useful. I don't think I could play it with 4 fingers if I forced myself to.
Another excellent 5-star video! You certainly timed this right, as I was just reading Peter Spitzer's excellent "Jazz Theory Handbook" in which he has a great 13-page bar-by-bar analysis of this classic tune. It's one of the best educational studies I've ever come across and taught me a lot.
Well, Mr Authenticity, you've done it again! I love the whole history of jazz guitar, but '20s-'30s chord melody is my favourite style to play, and you've just delivered its quintessence on a great jazz standard. "After You've Gone" has gotten loads of play, but its chords aren't always treated in this nuanced fashion. You never miss -- thanks, Alex! ... I love my Loar 700, too.
Ah thank you so much! I was hoping you'd enjoy this one! That early swing era is magical isn't it?! 🧡 Glad you're a fan of the Liar LH700 also! The best option I've seen for that L5 vibe 👌🏻
Wow, absolutely love this one. Had a guitar teacher, in the 70's was guitarist for a classic jazz orchestra. This reminds me of his style. Nice choice.
Love the early jazz music, lot of good stuff to diggest and practice in your lesson Alex. Excellent music recomendations. Thanks for all Alex! Good weekend to all!
@@AlexFarranGuitar I blame Louis Armstromg with his trumpet ! not really - it was a scandalous affair involving Napoleon, Adolphe Sax and the rivalry between brass instrument producers . Adolphe produced C brass for orchestra. and Bb for mililtary. After the civil war in america - discarded miliatry horns were picked up by blues and jazz musicians in a flat key - Im sure thats the origin . If the others hadnt tried to ruin Adophe the C brass woudldhave been standard -. So because of all of this - Jazz standards were written in flat keys. O me miserum - the source of my woe. I have a solution - i tune the giutar to D standard and play in G to get an F - ( lazy) . havent sorted out Eb and Bb yet ....

Fabulous Alex, really enjoyed it and giving it a go, just can't do the thumb over the top, you're a great player!

Ah yes, a really useful voicing indeed! Can find its way into many chord melodies! 👌🏻

Very nice ..lovely chords and harmonies …but B b .. to be fair I played Corcovado snippets in F for first time … tough but sounded nice
Haha I love Bb!.. it’s one of the standard keys in jazz, along with Eb and F. You get used to it! 😅👍🏻

Hi George, it’s the LH700 vs 👌🏻
@@AlexFarranGuitar ooh the expensive one . I saw the 309 for 599 and also the Guild TB50 Slim ? for 899 you r one - the 700 loar is 1300
@@mandolin-george-uk blimey, they’ve gone up in price then! As I said it the video, I paid around £700 for mine, brand new from Thomann back in 2013!
Man! You should rewrite Mel Bay’s melodic rythm books.
Haha thanks buddy! 😅
