Thank you. Once upon a time, I was an Essentials tutor but I've been in the Challenge directing world for five years--and for the last two, I had no Essentials students at all. But my youngest starts this fall and it is our first time in the 5th edition. I literally have. no idea what I'm doing! I feel like it's my first tour all over again!
Thank you for doing this. First Tour Mama and I am loving your detail. And FYI, I found your CCC items and I am printing them all out. I am not sure what everything is yet, but I really appreciate the time you have taken to teach and share this with us. It is going to save my sanity as I start Essentials with TWINS!
Hey Erica, I stumbled onto your videos doing a search for essentials. We're starting CC this fall, I'm excited to check out all of your videos! It's extremely helpful to watch these videos for a newbie.
Oh, that's awesome! Welcome to the CC family 😊 Feel free to ask if you have any questions! There's a helpful Essentials parents page on FB, too. What levels will you be in? My oldest is in Challenge I, my middle in Ch B, and my youngest in her second year of Essentials (and I don't know how many years of Foundations 🤣 ). This will be my 5th year tutoring Essentials ... I never knew I was a grammar nerd, but here I am 🤓
The shirt was a gift from one of my families ... isn't it great!? The bottom says, "Just like Grammar used to make" 🤣 I'm pretty sure she got it from a website called Jane.com
Where do you get your flexible binders? I had my last guide spiral bound because we do school at the kitchen table and I don't have room to have open binders lying about!
I've usually found them at Costco as we get into "back to school" time, but that's never a guarantee. I would do an internet search and see where you can find the best price - "five star flex binder" or "mead flex binder" should work.
Just to ask for clarifications: Are your Quid et quo pages and spelling pages in protectors or are you reprinting them each week? (first timer here and not sure what is best for the student, the tutor, or is it just family preference.) Thank you! This video is SUPER helpful.
Hello Erica, I am also a tutor for Essentials. This video is very thorough for parents to understand the curriculum and it's contents. My question is are you going to print the error pages in the teacher curriculum and place them in a page protector or just corrector them with pen? I found that the pages are not 8.5 in x 11in.
I haven't decided if I'll reprint the pages. I have made note of the changes in red ink, and I may print pages that had more significant changes. If I do, I'll likely trim the width of the reprinted page so it fits better; they size difference is annoying but minimal. I'll also highlight the changes on the reprinted pages because I like to be able to let parents know where the errors are. All of the currently listed errors were updated in the second printing, so that will be good for those who weren't in the "must get it first" rush 🤣
I only bring the current binder to class (weeks 1-12 or weeks 13-24). Students just need a copy of the master charts to look at during class. As a tutor, I provide that for in class use, but not all tutors do. I would just get a cheap binder and page protectors for the student's master charts.
Thank you so much for this. I love your soft-cover binders. Where did you get those?

@@ericarhodes821 hilarious!!!! 🤣😂👵
This is WONDERFUL. Thank you! I'm going to look for the flex binders at Costco later this summer :).
Where do you get your flexible binders? I had my last guide spiral bound because we do school at the kitchen table and I don't have room to have open binders lying about!
I searched Amazon and found them using keywords "Mead Flex Binder." Good luck!
Walmart carries them in store or online for much, much cheaper than Office Depot or Amazon. 🙌🏻

do you assemble the fifth edition binders the same way as your previous video?

Do y’all bring these binders to community day? Or do you put together another binder for the student?
